2022 Boston Red Sox Thread

Man, would be nice if Story can really get going. Nice start last night. What he did has not happened since 1939.

Boston Red Sox star Trevor Story hits 3 HRs in historic performance for second baseman.

He became the first second baseman in MLB history to steal a base in a three-homer game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He also joined Jim Tabor as the only Red Sox players with 5 runs, 3 dingers and 7 RBIs since RBI became an official stat in 1920.

Five in a row (and 8 of 10)… important three game series in Chicago vs the White Sox before (hopefully) beating up on the O’s and Reds at home.

Taking 2 in Chicago would keep that momentum going for sure. Hopefully Pivetta (2 ER in last 22 IP) can stay hot tonight. Go (Red) Sox.

I guess the bats took a night off Wednesday, but the rest of this series has been fun.

Even Bobby Dalbec got a hit with runners on tonight!

Don’t let this team get hot. Just don’t.

FIVE(!) at home vs the Orioles (over four days) starting tomorrow…

The only other team to be 8-2 over their last 10 games is the Dodgers. Boston's stretch included the Astros (great team) and the White Sox (good team).

Boston had one series win (their second series of the season, against Detroit) coming into the Texas series. Now, they've won their last four in a row (Texas, Houston, Seattle, ChiSox).

The season is a quarter complete. Still two games below .500, but only three games out of the wild card. No matter what, at least the remainder of the year shouldn't be the absolute beating that the initial 30 games projected.

Well that was a kick to the balls.

Yeah that was wild. We are one of the worst hitting teams I have ever seen and then those last three innings inexplicably happened.

Haven’t been to Fenway in a few years and last night didn’t disappoint.  There is an energy thee that you can feel from the crowd.  Maybe it’s the $10 beers or maybe be it’s the legalized marijuana, who cares, Sox is a win.  Hearing El Rey as Alex Verdugo’s walk up song was a nice touch too.  Will miss Ivan Melendez next year at Texas.

At .500… fucking finally

Now above .500 and in the final Wild Card spot.

This team has the third best run differential in the AL. If that keeps pace, no way they don't make the playoffs.

The AL East is currently slotted for four playoff teams. Madness.

Another W… and this time, in extras (which hasn’t been kind to the Sox this year).

More notably, it was the first game this season (after going 0-18) when trailing after 6 innings. Comeback wins are a cornerstone of great Sox teams over the years (or any good team for that matter). Would like to see some more of those.

Nate on the hill tomorrow. Trout is possibly injured as well. (Almost feel bad for the Angels now… but let’s keep the party going regardless.)

8-2 in the last 10, won all three west coast series. I’ll take it. Oakland visits on Tuesday. Keep the party going.

Even with Nate on the IL and Sale slowly working his way back, I somehow feel halfway decent about the pitching so far. A legitimate closet would be nice, but maybe saving that for the trade deadline…

Sox are 11-2 in June. Great stopgap start by Winckowski(!) — 0 ER, 5 IP.

Raffy now has a homer in each of the last four games.

Another series W. Don’t let this team get hot. Don’t.

I went to the game on Tuesday. What a perfect night for baseball. I was even able to stream the Astros go-ahead HR against the Rangers in these seats.

Don’t see those AAA #s get promoted often.

Quote

The Red Sox announced Monday that they’ve recalled infield prospect Jeter Downs from Triple-A Worcester and designated right-hander James Norwood for assignment.

It’ll be the Major League debut for Downs whenever he first steps onto the field for a game. Acquired alongside Alex Verdugo and Connor Wong in the trade that sent Mookie Betts and David Price to the Dodgers, Downs was once widely ranked among the sport’s 100 best prospects but has seen his stock tumble following a pair of poor showings in Triple-A. In 53 games so far with the WooSox, the 23-year-old Downs is hitting just .180/.297/.397 with a 31.1% strikeout rate in 222 plate appearances. That actually represents a modest improvement over his struggles in a larger sample during the 2021 campaign. Overall, he’s now tallied 627 Triple-A plate appearances with just a .187/.281/.355 slash to show for it.

Those struggles notwithstanding, Downs will get his first big league look and give the Sox some extra infield depth at a time when both Christian Arroyo and Enrique Hernandez are on the injured list. Major League teams who’d been carrying 14 pitchers also need to cut their pitching staff back to 13 beginning today, and Downs was already on the 40-man roster, making him an easy name to recall. They’ll need a 40-man spot once Arroyo is cleared to return from the Covid-related injured list anyhow, so designating Norwood and briefly giving Downs a taste of the Majors is a sensible — albeit likely short-term — route to take for the time being.

Another series win, going for the sweep tomorrow.

Not getting ahead of myself, but this team could be fun if they get going in the heart of the season. Haven’t lost a series since May 29.

The Yanks seem uncatchable now, but there’s still a ton of baseball left to play. Basically a whole month until the All-Star Break.

The run before the ASG will be quite the test.

Would be nice to get Nate and Sale(!) back. Sounds like Nate’s injury is taking longer to recover from than initially predicted. He probably won’t be activated from the IL until July 4 (or later).

Things seem promising for Sale — who struck out Wander Franco in his rehab inning yesterday. He very well could return *before* the All-Star Break.

Oh, and Millar predicted Story’s HR tonight:

I don't think there is anyway we can catch the assholes from NY but there is still a lot of season to go. Would be more fun to beat them in the Post Season.

This team is hot and Sale is not back yet. I am happy Story is playing like he is.

Lets FUCKING DO THIS!

Just swept a pretty decent Cleveland team on the road. 8 runs on 15 hits, and still left 30(!) runners on base. [eyeroll]

Won 12 of the last 15, and 7 in a row. Haven’t lost a series in a month.

Don’t let this team get hot. Don’t. On to Toronto…
