I picked up a 76 280Z earlier in the year. It's in really great shape and the stock 2.8L engine runs strong. Same with the interior. It's not a factory standard color, but I like it. My plan for now is just to clean it up, go with bigger 16" panasports, maybe a new exhaust header, maaaaybe swap the 4speed for a 5, otherwise keep the little things from turning into big things, and enjoy it for what it is.

I had a ‘78 Z. That thing was so much faster than an 18 year old me should have been trusted with. Hit 130+ a couple times because I was an idiot back then.  You could spin the tires a second time with the shift from 1st to 2nd.
I’ve been digging the new ones that have brought that classic shape back around.  They don’t get the best reviews but I’d own one just for the nostalgia.

Just for a bit of perspective, a 2018 Buick Regal Sportback would blow the doors off it 0-60, 5.6 vs. 8.0.

A 2025 Chevy Malibu with a 1.5L four would run neck and neck with it.

No oil leaks - good news.  bad news is I still have fuel leak around sending unit that started all this. Luckily I ordered new gaskets.

Sometimes the tangs on the fuel sending unit retaining ring have to be in the exact spot or they will leak.  Check that, and make sure the retaining ring isn't installed upside down. Maybe that helps bud.

Yeah, but the chicks dug my '82 280ZX a lot more than a Buick Regal.

Unfortunately no :)   The British have their own methods and they don't use tangs. The sending unit is not a fuel pump but a float to send a signal to the fuel gauge.  The fuel pump is behind the passenger seat. (In college I once drove home whacking it every few minutes for 200 miles). They just used old fashioned cork gaskets. Which actually work or the new fuel resistant viton gaskets. Which makes it frustrating since there are not many places to leak. I sealed the screw holes so I guess the next step is try again.  The real issue is I can't really see where the leak is -  so it is harder to repair.
