Yeah, she was a good pickup bc we needed someone who isn’t afraid to shoot

She was the only player who hit a 3 yesterday against PR. Also read Oldacre rolled her ankle and didn’t play the whole second half.

I know Vic wants to redshirt the FAU girl but I think we need her

The final was 85-45 in our first real game with this year's team.  Held PR to 28% FG, 26% from 3 (5-19) and they only hit 44% of their FTs.  They had 34 turnovers.

39% FG (went down quite a bit in the second half with the game out of hand and Sarah Graves getting garbage minutes)
18% 3P (4-22)
55% FT (19-34) - Oldacre 5-8, Cartlon 6-10, Preston 1-4, Sidberry 2-4 with a few others going 1-2
25 assists to 16 turnovers
22 steals and 2 blocks as well

We did that with Booker, Lee and Harmon basically no-showing the first game.

Oldacre had 17 points and 11 rebounds in about 9 minutes total (rolled her ankle in the 1H and didn't come back), along with 2 steals, 1 block and no turnovers
Rori 4 points, 2 assists, 3 steals, 1 rebound in 14 minutes
Lee 1 point, 3 assists, 1 steal in 16 minutes (only took 5 shots)
Carlton 18 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block in 25.5 minutes
Book 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal in 18 minutes

Preston 9 points, 11 assists, 1 rebound, 2 steals in 26 minutes
Judd 15 points (4 threes), 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals in 25.5 minutes
Crump in her debut had 0 points (took 4 shots), 3 rebounds, 3 steals in almost 24 minutes
Cunningham 9 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals in almost 14 minutes
Sidberry 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals in 16.5 minutes

Holy shit. 0-12 from the rest of the team. That needs to change this season. However, if Judd shoots 40% from three, we're already better off than last year.

Well to be fair -

Of those 12 missed shots, 4 were from Sarah Graves.  Hell yeah, let the walk-on shoot it when she comes in the game in a blowout.  That's what the fans love.

Jordan Lee was 0-3
Booker was 0-1
Crump was 0-3
Sidberry was 0-1

Lee and Crump just had a crummy day (0-9 combined) and I hope they bounce back against Canada tonight.

Texas leads 43-35 at half over Canada. Just realized Latasha Lattimore is on Team Canada

Booker with 12 (2-4 from deep) and Crump with 10

Texas goes to 2-0 with a 70-61 win over Canada. That was a good Canada team with Ejim, Avery Howell, Lattimore and Day-Wilson

Booker 18 (3-6 from deep)

Crump 13 (1-2 from deep)

Sidberry 10

Rori and Book both had 8 dimes

Much better from the line (20-28)

Canada's U23 team we played last night consisted of a lot of women who have just finished their NCAAW careers.  It is basically the team just below their Olympic team and featured 6 players who finished their eligibility in college.

WALLACK - 4 years at Washington State
EJIM - 4 years at Gonzaga (2x WCC POY), was drafted in 2025 by the Fever
RUSSELL - 5 years at Louisville
HOWELL - 1 season at USC and just transferred to Washington; #23 recruit
DAY-WILSON - 4 years at LSU
LATTIMORE - 4 years of college ball (Texas, Miami, Virginia) and transferred to Ole Miss for her final year
DANIELS - 2 years at MO State and transferred to Wisconsin
KYEI - 4 years at Oregon
WHEELER - 4 star in the class of 2026, committed to Stanford

Whereas Texas played 3 sophomores, a freshman and 2 juniors

HARMON - super senior
BOOKER - true junior
CUNNINGHAM - true junior
SIDBERRY - true senior
LEE - true sophomore
PRESTON - true sophomore
CRUMP - true freshman
CARLTON - true sophomore
JUDD - true senior
OLDACRE - true senior (did not play last night)

I've only seen the last few minutes, but man...we've looked bad. I assume this isn't how we've been playing.

We had a good lead for most of the 3rd and then fell apart.

This redhead from Canada is a perfect 6 for 6 behind the arc. Does she have any eligibility left?

Tie game late in the 3rd

Howell was a freshman at USC and transferred to Washington

Texas now trails after 3, 52-54

She’s destroying us. Lattimore is also making us look silly. Canada leads by 2 now to start the 4th quarter.

Booker has not been efficient in this tournament

Need to go inside to Cunningham more

Looks like women against girls at the moment.

Kind of is, tbh

One bad stretch in the 3rd doomed us to silver

First I've seen us play. Hopefully an anomaly, because during the minutes I saw (admittedly our worst of the day), we looked marshmallow soft. Our guards' inability to get by anyone was disappointing, as was everyone's inability to shoot. Cunningham did make a few layups. Then Howell bullied us out of the deep end of the pool all by herself.

We just kind of ran out of gas in the 2nd half, but we did play 4 games in 5 days, in Team Canada's home turf, with a different ball (the larger FIBA ball, not the NCAA ball). Definitely not making excuse, because Canada also played 4 games in 5 days.

Also besides Howell, Team Canada is loads older than us and more experienced.  I mentioned something like 6 players combined for nearly 30 combined seasons of NCAA ball, with one of them (Ejim) a WNBA draft pick in 2025.  Canada roster's was probably an average age of 23/24, while we had a freshman and a bunch of sophomores and juniors playing.

Canada definitely matched our physicality and Howell just couldn't miss from deep.  We did pretty well for a team with 4 new players (Judd, Crump, Sidberry, Cunningham) and down 1 major returner (Oldacre) for 3 of our 4 games.
