The rookie is awesome

I guess the episode this week was in Prague, so, guess where Lil' Brown wants to go for vacation this summer.

Wednesday definitely has a similar feel/tone to Stranger Things, my kids liked it almost as much as Stranger Things and it we enjoyed watching both seasons of Wednesday as a family.

Skeleton Crew is a great suggestion, we all watched that together, too. It's definitely not very Star Warsy if that's what you're worried about.

We also were very into watching the Marvel movies together, and you could treat them like a serial if you wanted. Just start way back with Iron Man and watch them in release order. Plus the series Loki first season, Wandavision, and Agatha All Along. The kids were less into most of the other series.

Not a serial drama but the Disney cartoon series Phineas and Ferb has been a must-watch for our entire family since it started over a decade ago. We were excited when they just released a new season last year.

Not at all the answer to my question, as episodes are ~15 minutes long and have limited "carryover" to the plotlines, but for anyone else looking for shows that appeal to a wide audience, we all really enjoy The Amazing World of Gumball. Bonkers humor aimed at all ages.

I disengaged from all the Star Wars shit when it became too much to keep track of, but I imagine that if he shows an interest in the future, those might be good options.

Wait, does this mean you haven't watched Andor?

Correct. Don't even subscribe to Disney+.

I'd put it at #1 then. I think it's one of the best TV shows, period, of the last 5 years. Also, not sure if you know anything about it, but it shows how the empire - through propaganda, fear, secret police and intelligence, and apathy of the galactic citizens - was able to slowly gain a stranglehold; and those who recognize the situation and fight back Nothing really about Jedi, the force, or lightsabers. Beautifully written, acted, and shot.

You present a compelling case, and it will certainly be the first thing we watch if/when we add Disney+.

Toss in the Time Bandits series on Disney as well, my kid loved it.

Also sounds promising.

I think at that age, for most things either they are going to need to stretch in an adult direction or you'll need to stretch a bit in the kid direction. Lots of suggestions here stretch in the adult direction. One that we did and enjoyed as a family, but was a bit on the adults stretching toward the kids side, was Lemony Snickets Series of Unfortunate Events (the show on Netflix, not the movie). It was a perfect bridge show for the family at that age.
