Going Forward -- Herman Needs to Be More Aggressive on Offense

Not so much in this game, but Herman's philosophy of clinging to the lead instead of extending the lead infuriates me. The "you only have to score 1 more point than your opponent" mentality has forced Texas into losing so many close games due to being content to punt the ball with a slim lead. That's not "playing to a standard", that's playing to the exact level of your opponent. Whether it be Oklahoma or Tulsa.

Title of this thread is now more true than ever. Defense can’t get a stop. Play like points left on the table in the second and third quarter might come back to bite you in the ass because they probably will.

Yeah...... Became obvious last week against Okie Lite that the HORNS Defense was overrated this year.  Poor play at LB and NB.... as well as terrible run support by Sterns have been exposed during the last two losses.  Not real pleased by CB play either although Boyd had a better game tonight.

Defense hopefully fixes  some of their issues next week and PLEASE CREATE SOME TURNOVERS...... Offense has to keep scoring more points and build larger leads to help HORNS Win games during the next 3 games....

Yes use the pass to set up the run....... And be more Aggressive on Offense.  VINDICATION occurred in Saturday's West Virginia game....

Scipio Tex wrote the following about West Virginia game:

The season's best performance by the Longhorn offense was a fun watch, not just because it highlighted the supreme growth of Sam Ehlinger, the OL in pass protection, the wide receivers, and Tre Watson being possessed by tackle-breaking demons, but it also showed once again what the Longhorn offense is capable of operating without an imposed governor on its upside. When we throw to set up the run - and those throws are actually substantial, intended to grab chunk gains and exploit obvious coverage opportunity (Duvernay in permanent single coverage, RBs out of backfield, the big boys on untraditional throwing downs) really good things happen for us. It's also worth noting that in a game where Ehlinger threw the ball 36 times (but we actually called 40+ passes when you factor scrambles/sacks) Texas actually held a 8 minute TOP advantage and significantly shortened the game. Just run good offense.

Yeah if our defense had been even below average we blow WV out. It is like 2018 is mirror universe 2017. But hey we have two more years of Sam so maybe the defense starts to get its act together at some point in the next few years.

This season? The QB stretch had been extremely successful until this past weekend.

Weren’t we stopped with 1 yard to go like 3 times in a row in a game?  I just think a goaline package would make those pretty low risk very high percentage success situations

Yeah, we probably need find a counter to their counter. Just saying that until this past weekend, we had no problem converting on those short yardage situations when we had the correct personnel in.

Bohls question on how Herman has wanted Horns to be strong Defensively but Texas currently is playing more like typical B12 Teams  (Strong Offense/Weak Defense)....... what were Tom's thoughts??

Herman stated that going into Tech game they knew it wouldn't be a 17-14 kinda game so they did gameplan for a more high scoring game.

No doubt with all the injuries and poor play on Defense, HORNS gotta keep the pedal to the metal on Offense...... wouldn't be surprised to see Sam throw the ball more on 1st and 2nd downs vs Iowa State this Saturday.....

Great job having Balls vs Georgia in playcalling to set up the Run Game by passing early.

Herman told his Team that we are going to do everything we can to help you WIN.....

Time to take the Fuckin' Restrictor Plates Off Longhorn Fans..... PLAY TO WIN 🤘

Speaking of aggression, can someone explain the onside kick to start the second half?  I thought the personal fouls to end the 1st half was on them so our kick in the second half now guarantees they let it go and start on the 25. Instead we onside kick and give it to them at the 40?

Thought a Squib kick was a better play.  Guess Herman wanted to show his guys that they were playing to WIN.....
