  1. There is flooding and then there is this. I haven’t seen anyone post they’ve seen this amount of rain/flooding above Kerrville in living memory. Do we know the rain total over those few hours relative to what was predicted?
  2. This may not be a popular opinion here but I actually agree with this arrest regardless of her and her husband’s political views. She’s not fleeing oppression, violence, or even poverty. She’s a scofflaw and cut the line more than once. She should have been gone long ago yet has been here 26 years. maybe again an unpopular opinion but I’d prefer to deport criminals other than rapists and murderers rather than use taxpayer funds to feed clothe and shelter them
  3. Pages of argument and this is all it is. It’s like y’all have never been around groups of women
  4. I’ll let you know how it goes
  5. Not the McMahon I was hoping for
  6. I don’t understand your point. I was clarifying that there is not a hard $50,000 per year cap on financing grad school. I’m not making an argument that this is as good or better than what we had before just that you can still finance 100% of your graduate or professional school costs
  7. My oldest is a rising senior and looking at law schools, so I have looked into this a bit.my understanding is the cap is on federal student loans. You can borrow the remainder of the cost of tuition, books, and living expenses (I’m assuming that is calculated by the school) using private student loans. They can actually have lower interest rates than federal loans if you are willing to cosign and have good credit, or if the student has established credit worthiness. It definitely sucks, but in my opinion in the Pell grant changesucks worse.
  8. We learned this with Rita
  9. I’d like to think Cornyn is going to go scorched earth on this stupid fuck leading up to the primary, but he’s a big pussy so I expect he won’t
  10. That’s on an 84 month note. And the metal roof was financed for 10 years
  11. Would these have helped in this case? Honestly how much time before the wall of water was on top of them would the warning have come?
  12. I don’t care who it is I’m saying what he’s said so far my daughter who knows what’s going on as firsthand as one could without being there is corroborating.
  13. Most of what he has posted my daughter is getting from first person texts and screenshots from friends who have relatives there. Homesick horn says there are helicopters in the air. My daughter is part of a group mobilizing to go help with cleanup early next week. Not sure what to tell you.
  14. Same thing my daughter is saying
  15. Definitely have the mindset. I had a partner that was collecting 110k a month and when Rita hit he had to take a bridge loan to cover his personal nut for 4 months. 2 ex wives, a couple grown kids, new wife 30 years younger and toddler will do that I guess lol oh and the single engine turbo prop and 40 foot offshore fishing boat don’t help interesting what you say about other people’s kids. We are in a neighborhood that is solidly upper middle class. when we moved in, a lot of older parents who had kids late. Mostly great peer group in the local elementary whose parents we liked but the kids from a couple other feeder schools when they hit MS and HS holy shit. Now million dollar houses are tear downs, monstrosities are going up as spec houses for 3.5-4.5M and selling. Neighborhood is full of middle schoolers riding wheelies down the street on electric dirt bikes or careening around on golf carts get off my lawn
  16. My mom worked a full time job and did apartment make ready work on the side. Stepdad worked as much overtime at the refinery as he could get and did plumbing on the side. Had a master plumbers license but dropped out of school in 10th grade. Mom didn’t finish 9th. Lot of high interest debt on CC rent to own furniture and appliances and cars that were upside down as soon as you drove them off the lot. Got a good work ethic from them and a lot of what not to do lol And caught some breaks along the way of course, and was in school when the state still paid enough of a chunk to tuition that a part time job could cover most of it, especially if you didn’t buy the textbooks 😉 I still would not describe you or me as working class at this point
  17. My daughter is a counsel at a different camp but has a bunch of friends at those camps. She got a text confirming a lot of this. Don’t know how to blur out identifying info so no screenshot but Dick was found w 5 girls 5 miles downstream 6 girls and a counselor still missing 😢
  18. My favorite is the free ones. Gotdamn crazy expensive over the past few years
  19. That’s terrible.
  20. We have a literal rainy day fund. Wonder if it will get used
  21. Man I really wanted to love this but Michael B Jordan is always going to be Wallace to me. Just too “nice” to play a believable villain or antihero imo Pretty over the top with the White Devil theme. The woman who is passing is what leads to their downfall. I get it but I like my symbolism a tad more subtle Visually stunning and the dialogue was good to great. Music great no doubt I did find the damned if you do damned if you don’t plotline compelling. Fight an ultimately unwinnable war vs the crackers or become vampires which gives you protection but banishes you to the night. Could have fleshed out the similarities between Irish and black oppression commonalities a bit more And I just don’t like to see my vampires out before dark (fuck twilight). Have some minions for that preliminary shit Good flick but probably won’t be a multiple rewatch for me
  22. You’re right. I never missed a meal. I bet my mom missed more than one though. Congrats on st marks though seriously. Kids suck. We always lived in the cheapest apartment/rent house or trailer park that would feed the “rich” schools. One time in 5th grade my mom got me a cool shirt from Goodwill. Problem was it had belonged to a kid in my school and a small stain that he recognized when we were at recess. It went about how you imagine it would
  23. I’d trade that for having the water and gas turned off (do you know how far behind you have to be for the public utilities to shut you off?) in our leaky rental house that backed up to a railroad track that was close enough to an intersection that required them to use their horn. And what do you know they hook up at the rice driers at the most ungodly hours
  24. Is this where we argue about who grew up poorer? lol I’m pretty sure I’ll win that based on your descriptions of your high school days. And you may retain empathy for the working class until the day you die, but you ain’t that any more edit and from what you post you, like I have tried to do with mine, have been able to instill that empathy in your children, no small feat
