  1. I'll try to steer him towards the shows, I agree that it's probably his best route to more sales. He's come down with the COVID or something so I'm hoping he's still around come spring.
  2. I know our experts have already discounted US involvement but I'd still bet money there's a gringo on the ground with connections to Kermit Roosevelt Jr.
  3. The town IS named after an Indian tribe that once called the area home. The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame/Museum on the river had to stop some expansion construction a few years back because they were digging up human remains. Not sure if they were Indians or if it was an unmarked pauper's cemetery.
  4. Those were different times. When we were doing the raft race the drinking age was 18 and Texas didn't have an open container law. Cutoff blue jean shorts were de rigueur.
  5. Whole bunch of tournament teams in the conference is going to make it tough on errrbody.
  6. That was our avant garde art installation. I would have thought that you of all people could appreciate it. The artist went on to bigger things.
  7. In the late 70's some civic minded fools organized "The Great Texas Raft Race" on the Brazos. It's only 3 or so miles from MCC's boat launch ramp, the starting point of said "race", to downtown, the finish line. It was pretty kooky and I don't know if it was intentional or not but the whole thing was just a floating parade of drunks. If you've ever been to the Just For Fun parade in San Marcos it was like that but with the chance of drowning.
  8. Growing up there was an annual carp tournament on Lake Waco, in August I think. First prize was a Zebco 202. Second prize was TWO Zebco 202's.
  9. Baylor with a 9 point lead at the half, 45-36. OU offense is good or Baylor is having an off night defensively. BU's Matt Mayer took an elbow to the mouth from a teammate and got a tooth broken. Flagler and Akinjo have 26 of Baylor's points, both teams are shooting lights out. Rebounding has gone to Baylor, 14-4.
  10. OU @ BU tips off in 30 or so minutes. Moser's roster is pretty much entirely made up of transfers. SUX is 11-2 and a pretty good offensive team I think. We shall see.
  11. Thanks for the replies, I'll pass along the wisdom. I'm fairly certain he won't be doing shows though, the need for display cases, tent etc... is going to be an outlay and bridge too far. I think he's just wanting a way to make sales without having to do much more than listing some things and collecting a check after shipping. Maybe I'll get him to do an Etsy account and list 1 or 2 items and go from there. I've looked into spaces with him in mind at one of the bigger horse shows we have here, the crowd seemed to me like the types that would possibly be interested, but the smallest space was $400 for 3 days.
  12. Made it easier for Bob to digest.
  13. My friend Karl needs help. He started learning lapidary a couple years back and moved onto learning some metalworking to mount the stones he was cutting and polishing. He's been selling stuff by word of mouth but that has limits. He asked me what to do and I don't know how to best advise him on expanding his market. He's 73, pretty tech savvy but needs to get up to speed on internet sales. Here's some of what he does... average price is around $100, he's sold one piece for $175. Any of you gurus have any thoughts on a best approach?
  14. Having Cincy in the fold will lend a small bit of credibility to the conference. That CFP appearance won't mean a lot but if one of the BXII teams should go undefeated or perhaps even 1 loss I think there's a better chance than not that the champion would get in. I think that even if BU had beaten TCU the Bears might not have made it. OSU on the other hand with a win in the CCG would have put the committee in a bind.
  15. I think some divers went down on Queen Elizabeth in Hong Kong harbor. ETA: Point being, I think you could take Holly a few miles offshore and sink her as a reef and charge money.
  16. Them quitting would be a good thing. Instead they continue on with the suckage. Parcells said you are what your record says you are and Dallas is a team capable of beating the dregs of the league and on occasion beating someone that surprises you. That's their record.
  17. I had forgotten about this thread but seeing it bumped reminds me of when I was listening to the radio a month or so ago and the Baylor men's basketball team was playing in the Bahamas. Radio crew from Waco were staying at Atlantis resort and had a view of the harbor. One of them noticed some buzz around one of the biggest yachts there and asked the server who told them the boat was inhabited by Sly Stallone. I think the boat may have been the Quantum of Solace but I'm not 100% on that. I don't know if he was there for the basketball or what but I guess he can afford to do whatever in first class.
  18. Hey, every basketball school got its start somewhere. Hopefully McLane can be paid for and be kept reasonably full. Taking on more and more debt in pursuit of athletic's dollars may prove to be a bad financial strategy for Baylor. I hope not but I'm not one to get real optimistic long term based on some relatively short term results. Markets tend to have a way of correcting themselves.
  19. That was a tough game to watch as a fan. Prolly was for non-fans too. Teams with a strong defense and a meaty okra offense that just find ways to win are never sexy. I'm still not a big fan of what Grimes is doing on offense (probably because it's not splashy) and I'm not sure how long it will be successful, there were a lot of lucky moments this season. Then again he showed a lot of creative ways to generate big plays and scores so what do I know? Bohannon was serviceable this year but that's a position that needs to be upgraded. The loss of QB1 by Missip was a game changer, impossible to know which team would have won if he had not gone down. That's how foosball go I guess. Aranda's compulsive 4th down behavior is maddening. Lebby leaving for OU is an interesting storyline. I think his offense could be just what OUSUX needs and that he'll be able to maximize the talent that LR seemingly couldn't. It'll be interesting to see how that develops. Anyway, random thoughts on what I guess some could argue was the best season in BU football history. Sic 'em.
