  1. @Tom Two of the guys I most respect and rely on for advice did EXACTLY what you are talking about. One was 3 years and the other at 5. Both described how they weren't drinking but we anywhere from not happy to miserable and they didn't know why. No one in any meeting I've ever been in would shun you. Best of luck.
  2. Sumbitch. Jess was a great guy. Used to do some day drinking with my brother at the Barley House. First time, my brother said, "You know who our bartender was? Guitarist for Slobberbone". That band, and The Drams never got the recognition they deserved. What a great band. What a great cover: LOVE that guitar tone. This one always makes me smile.
  3. Truth. I honestly have never laughed as much and as hard as I did while I was in treatment. I had no idea what I was in for. Part of me thought it would be like "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" mixed with a religious, Kumbaya-campfire-singing session. I couldn't have been further from the truth. I have a buddy who right now who really needs to be in treatment but won't pull the trigger. He convinced his doctor and some other treatment center dude into letting him try to medically detox at home and that went about as well as you would think. I know he would have a blast and would have a much better chance at getting sober if he would just go. I told him I would drive him up there and that I would go back if my insurance would let me. Just too proud/scared I guess.
  4. How am I just now learning this. Had no idea he has been working as Weird Al's producer either.
  5. Wow.....I can't quit listening to this.
  6. I know the studio version was posted earlier, but wow.
  7. She sounds like Linda Thompson in that song. Never listened to this album. Thanks @UTCzech III
  8. This one kills me every time I hear it. Cory Branan also has a great one called The Freefall, but all of the YT versions suck. It is from his album, Mutt. Has several great verses but the overall feeling is one of despair. "And I was fucked up As my haircut She was wasting Good perfume"
  9. I really love Todd Snider's version. It had a much different vibe than REK's original. Stripped down, sounds hungover and full of regret, sorrow and shame.
  10. This is now my favorite quote from Hornfans/Shaggy/Surly.
  11. Aha. And they can be none more black than they are.
  12. What does he mean by 'double stingers on the back'? Never heard that term.
  13. Ray Wylie will whip his ass.
  14. This thing sits in the back of his studio with shit piled all around it. Been a couple of years since I've actually seen it. He has it dialed in and never touches it but he records directly now so he is clearing out some space and he just picked up a Vox that he is using mostly. I'm using my Blues Jr mostly with my pedal steel....hell, if Buzz doesn't take it, I'll just scoop it up for one of my guitar amps.
  15. @Buzzrock Aha. He put a greenback speaker in it. He lives 2 blocks from me. I think you have my cell.
  16. @Buzzrock One of the guitarists I play with has a Blues Jr he is wanting to sell. He is asking $300. It isn't as clean as that one but it sounds fantastic. I have a newer model and his sounds a lot better than mine.
  17. Sorry Bogey.....As Wheels says, Paul Simon is the noted sawed-off, song stealing bastard. https://www.laweekly.com/los-lobos-on-paul-simon-do-you-mean-zydeco-when-you-say-zy-decko/
  18. Fuck that sawed-off, song stealing bastard.
  19. The guy who does the Cuttin' Grass podcast told me "Rehab taught me how to get sober. IOP taught me how to live and stay sober". I did the same as you....Residential/IOP then eased back in to work. It helped me ease back in to life after being in the protective bubble of rehab. Best advice I got was "Don't rush yourself".
  20. Early in sobriety, I mentioned to a friend that I had a bad day the previous day and he said, "Did you really have a bad day or did you have a bad 5 minutes that you hung on to the rest of the day". If I'm having a shit day or if stuff starts to pile up on me, I can just restart my day at any time, as many times as I need to.
  21. Is this a Koa top or back/sides? My brother has a Koa (back and sides) Taylor....I think maybe a 200 series but it was a limited edition. I sounds like a much more expensive guitar. A coworker also has a 700 series Koa (back and sides) that sounds incredible. Both of these have Spruce tops.
  22. John Clark was one of my counselors at treatment in Nashville. Dude has an amazing story and does such a great job with that podcast. I'm so happy for him. Another good one is Cuttin' Grass by Joe Singer. COMPLETELY different styles. Joe is just a dude learning how to live sober while John's is more of a closing argument style. But both are fantastic and vital parts of my recovery.
  23. Anyone else watch Matthew Perry's interview with Diane Sawyer? Wow. It was really eye-opening to my wife. I had told her the same things about myself and she kind of brushed them off as me being weak. Then, when she hears him say he was taking 50+ Vicodin a day and had been in over 60 detoxes, spending over $7 million in rehabs and hospital stays, I think it finally set in for her. I have long since given up caring if he gives a shit but it was the first time she acted like she had any sense of understanding what I was going through in that last year of the wheels coming off for me. Then, three days ago, the lead singer of one of the bands I play in walked into his house and blew his brains out in front of his wife. He was 31. His father-in-law and I are going over to the house to clean up that mess, literally. Everyone, please be kind to yourself. As a friend of mine says, "Stay reachable, stay teachable and stay humble"
  24. I tried that book about 10 years ago because fuck going to AA. I'm not THAT bad, right? That book didn't make a dent in me, but truly glad it helped you. It was another 6 years before I finally ended up in treatment.
  25. Whiskey Grove is a masterpiece.
