  1. Coaching pay raises. Suppose new market, asst baseball salaries have increased. No mention of Woody. Pierce (1.2M), Beard, and Elliott received raises last July. https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/new-contract-details-for-beard-pierce-elliott-on-board-of-regents-meeting-agenda/ Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte is showing that he’ll reward any coach who wins big. Five UT head coaches are scheduled to receive pay raises starting in the 2022-23 athletic year after turning in championship performances last season, according to the UT System Board of Regents agenda posted Monday. The UT regents must approve all multi-year contracts within the UT system or any contract worth more than $1 million annually. Track coach Edrick Floréal is getting a pay increase of $217,000, pushing his guaranteed compensation to $550,000. He’s also getting a special one-time payment of $58,750 on Oct. 1. Floréal guided the Longhorns to their first men’s indoor track and field national championship in March. Women’s tennis coach Howard Joffe is getting a pay bump of $34,715 to $250,000. His program has won back-to-back national titles. Men’s golf coach John Fields, who guided the Horns to a national title, is getting a bump of $20,100 to $325,000. Softball coach Mike White led the Longhorns to the Women’s College World Series finals as national runner-up. White is getting a raise of $13,000 to $625,000 annually. He will receive a special one-time payment of $75,625 on Oct. 1. Women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer’s program won the Big 12 Tournament last season and has made back-to-back trips to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Schaefer’s compensation jumps from $1.8 million to $2.3 million. The school will deposit the money in a company he controls called The Pressin’ Rockin’ S. Schaefer will also receive a special one-time payment of $261,250 on Oct. 1. Also, new UT baseball hitting coach Steve Rodriguez will earn $375,000 annually in a deal that runs through the 2024 season, according to the UT regents’ agenda. No public money is used to fund any aspect of UT athletics, which is a self-sustaining enterprise. The majority of athletic department revenue comes from conference TV contracts, ticket sales and donations. Five Texas coaches scheduled for pay raises after successful seasons (msn.com)
  2. Solid win. Pearland coach managed his pitchers well, using 3 or 4 and not overextending. Pa. may be a challenge. . Pa has been raking, two teams seem evenly matched.
  3. Thought a new thread was appropriate, did not want to depreciate John's thread. Another issue for the Mueller Family. The owners of the popular East Austin restaurant La Barbecue are being indicted on fraud charges related to a 2016 insurance claim, according to a news release issued by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) earlier today, August 23. The married couple, founder LeAnn Mueller and manager Allison Clem, have been summoned to appear in Travis County District Court on September 28 for allegedly carrying out a workers’ compensation fraud scheme, which resulted in a payout of more than $350,000 in medical and indemnity benefits. According to TDI, the case began sometime in late July 2016 after an unnamed employee was hurt badly while working with kitchen equipment at La Barbecue when it was a food truck parked at 1906 East Cesar Chavez Street. Allegedly, that same day, Mueller and Clem were made aware of the injuries. During that time, the business didn’t have workers’ compensation coverage (and had been without it at the time since November 2014). However, the TDI report states that four days after the incident happened, Clem reached out to Paychex Insurance to acquire such coverage. The TDI Fraud Unit states through the release that Clem did not share the employee’s incident or their injuries with the insurance agent. The department claims that she did, however, ask for the new policy to be backdated to July 1, 2016, which, according to the investigation, was three weeks prior to the employee sustaining their injuries. TDI reports that Mueller then signed an application for coverage, reporting that there had been no claims, allowing Travelers Casualty Insurance Company of America to approve the policy. The release goes on to say that, after the policy was in place, the restaurant submitted a claim to Travelers for the injured employee, which was approved, resulting in the payout of more than $350,000 in benefits. According to the TDI release, the insurance company also assumed lifetime care for the injured employee. The exact injuries have not been made public at the time of publishing. A case summary from the 147th District Court states the official offense as “fraudulent securing document execution,” which is considered a felony. The summary also lists the date for a pre-trial hearing as September 27. If found guilty, it’s possible that Mueller and Clem would be ordered to pay restitution, plus up to double the amount Travelers already paid to the injured worker in benefits, as TDI details. In the state of Texas, employers are not required to have workers’ compensation coverage, but it is at their own risk, as lack of coverage leaves businesses open to potential injury lawsuits from employees. Eater has reached out to Mueller, Clem, TDI, and the Travis County District Attorney’s Office for further comments. 4. Gotta love it ! 🙂 Iowa player calls out ESPN for wanting drama due to missed strike call. Better audio if you click the article. Davenport, Iowa, was up 6-3 and one out away from winning an elimination game against Bonney Lake, Wash., at the 2022 Little League World Series. Iowa’s hurler threw a borderline 3-2 pitch that could’ve wound up being the game-clinching strikeout. Instead, the home plate umpire called a ball, bringing the potential tying run to the plate. When the team convened at the pitcher’s mound, one player called out ESPN for prolonging the game to create added drama. ABC, which broadcasted Saturday’s game and had Iowa’s coach mic’d up, was able to pick up the audio during the mound visit: https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/sports/iowa-little-leaguer-blames-espn-for-missed-strike-call/3341959/#:~:text=Iowa's hurler threw a borderline, tying run to the plate.&text=Stay informed about local news%2C politics and weather.
  5. Excellent analysis. Pearland gave good effort. End of game body language did not look good since they have to regroup and play 3 days in a row to make it to Saturday USA championship. Play Iowa Tuesday at 6PM. If they don't let this loss get to them they have a chance to make it to Saturday. Need to hit the batting cage early Tues morning. Bracket: https://www.littleleague.org/downloads/2022-llbws-bracket/
  6. Early games today. Red Sox and Orioles visit and later play at a minor league field in Williamsport, 6PM, ESPN. Always great to see the interaction between the Little Leaguers and MLB players. America, baby !
  7. https://www.tenforums.com/antivirus-firewalls-system-security/ You will have to create an acct to post but post your issue in the above forum. Great people including MSN techs. Better than calling MSN, trust me. I think similar issues have been solved without having to wipe the drive.
  8. Some market gurus are starting to worry that the summer rally on Wall Street may be starting to fizzle, after stocks lurched from oversold to overbought. Gene Goldman, chief investment officer of Cetera Financial Group, explained that stocks are likely headed for a pullback, even though the economy is in better shape than many Americans might recognize. “There’s been plenty of great news, but the market needs a little bit of a pause. We’ve moved a little too fast, too quickly, right now,” Goldman said in a phone interview with MarketWatch. To support this view, he pointed to a handful of reasons that Friday’s slump in stocks might continue into next week, and possibly longer — even though he remains bullish on stocks over a longer time horizon. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/here-are-5-reasons-why-the-bull-run-in-stocks-may-be-about-to-morph-back-into-a-bear-market-11660942705
  9. Let patience be your virtue. As you likely know, Tacoma's had a top resale value even pre covid and will continue to do so. Plus you mention your upgrades. Any info on the Tacoma forums ? May want to check with other dealers even out of area, out of state to perhaps get a more definitive answer/solution. Would let the dealer do the work if still under warranty.
  10. Pearland 2B is the real deal. Looks like Tulo fielding the ball. Pearland will play the winner of NY/Hawaii Monday at 6PM.
  11. Very advanced pitcher for his age. MLB scouts likely already have him on their board. 🙂
  12. https://www.littleleague.org/world-series/2022/llbws/tournaments/world-series/ LLWS begins 12PM, Wed, ESPN. Pearland plays Mid Atlantic (Pa), 6PM, Thursday.
  13. East Anderson and Slaughter if this is current. Pretty sure it is. AUSTIN: 1410 EAST ANDERSON LN, AUSTIN, TX 78752 – PH: (512) 835-9454AUSTIN: 415 W SLAUGHTER LN, AUSTIN, TX 78748 – PH: (512) 590-7540 https://www.lubys.com/all-locations

  15. http://stats.mutigers.com/sports/m-basebl/2007-2008/mu_32.html https://texassports.com/news/2008/4/11/041108aaa_749.aspx Hesitated to mention, but in 2008 Mizzou defeated Texas 31-12, worst loss ever. Winds were at 25mph plus all game. 9 HR's, Priday of Mizzou had 4. Mizzou was ranked #8, we were #12. Team finished 39-22, lost at the Rice Regional.
  16. wrong thread
  17. What happened ? I missed it. Congrats to Pearland who defeated Tulsa 9-4 for a trip to Williamsport. Do Texas proud in the LLWS ! Tulsa is commended for being a "scappy" little team. Seemed to have the deepest pitching staff in the tournament, just could not make it all the way back after losing game 2.
  18. Not that familiar, Pearland seems to have the best hitting team, Abilene will likely counter with their ace McCarty who shutdown Eastbank on Thursday. You are correct, teams seem not as strong this year. Or perhaps there is just not one dominant team.
  19. Ms upsets defending champion La Eastbank 7-5. Great game. For an inexplicable reason (probably to save him for later), Eastbank coach pulled his starter with a 4-0 lead. Can't do that in the loser's bracket. You all need to watch these games. It is ok to relive your childhood. 🙂
  20. Sat Okla vs Ark, 4PM La vs Ms, 7PM Sun TBD, Winner of above games, 12PM Pearland vs Abilene, 4PM (winner goes to championship game on Tues) Abilene beat Okla 3-2 last night in 7 inn, but may have lost their #2 pitcher/1B to injury. Hurt his knee fielding a bunt, didn't look good. No clear favorite. Tournament will be won by the team whose coach manages his team the best.
  21. Be best to talk with her about her complete financial situation. Is $1500 the answer or will it just complicate her financial situation. It may be for high interest payments which is money wasted and will only grow. A bill consolidation loan and budget review may be in order. With children involved, it is even more important.
  22. I will defer to @Huckleberry but they are very good. Rick McCarty, head baseball coach at Abilene Christian is an assistant coach. His son was the winning pitcher tonight over defending champion Eastbank La. Little League baseball seems to be somewhat cyclical. https://www.littleleague.org/world-series/2022/llbws/tournaments/southwest-region/ Today's scores and schedule. After day 1, top 4 seems to be Wylie, Eastbank, Pearland, and Tulsa. Starkville is also pretty good.
  23. LHN not showing the Waco Regional though schedule indicates such.
  24. https://gc.com/tmt/summer-2022/little-league-baseball-southwest-region-tournament-62c71d4a6950b355b5ef9410/schedule Best time of year ! Road to Williamsport continues Thursday in Waco. Games scheduled for LHN. Will miss Keith Moreland doing the broadcast, have a full recovery "Zonk".
