  1. My last stop at a McD's was about 8 months ago and they had a buy one get one free for the QPs. So I used a hack I've heard about. Got two with the sauce on the side and made my own double. It was alright. I've heard good things about their spicy chicken sandwich. Haven't tried. I did hit up Culver's to try out their new spicy ckn sand and it was not good. White meat chicken with the texture of a stack of wet paper.
  2. You'll be horrified to learn that the losses were acceptable. To some.
  3. There may be reason for concern.
  4. This is also news - it's not just more frequent storms, and more water in the atmosphere to be aware of, but the “trapping” effect that causes weather such as heat domes or rainstorms to remain over one region is becoming more frequent. Further, the current-generation climate models do not do a good job in capturing this phenomenon.
  5. The CNN article, which mentioned how other counties were interacting with NWS on the night of the floods and requesting additional information but that Kerr County was totally radio silent, seems especially damning. The county officials were likely all drunk or fast asleep.
  6. from the comments to that article - thought these 2 were interesting

  10. A mostly worthless opinion column by a posturing Michael Bloomberg illustrates that even one aggy knows what's up https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2025-07-08/michael-bloomberg-texas-floods-made-worse-by-climate-denialism
  11. Ominous excerpt from the 2016 Monthly article about the Wimberley flood https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/when-the-river-rises/
  12. I don't recall seeing this so siap - WSJ https://archive.is/zhj5M
  13. WSJ article about the flood published online last night. I hadn't seen this before but back in 1990 the county apparently had a warning system. The article mentions it only once. It also discusses some of the advance preparations but that it was mostly treated as fun or an inconvenience. archived article https://archive.is/wxj7x#selection-2135.64-2135.71
  14. I thought it goes, "And the sign said 'Long-haired freaky people Need not apply'" I take it Ghost has ruled out his BIL as being the perp?
  15. FEMA working slowly, like they did when Brownie was in charge. The Handbasket is a Texas news/journalism site.
  16. It's fine. I give it a c+ but I don't care for auto racing of any variety and uninspired acting and screenwriting annoy me. The movie is like the first Rocky but on a race track. I imagine that was in the pitch meeting. "And then we add in a bit of corporate double cross!!" There was nothing else to see in the theater near us so I gave it a shot. My wife and sister were less critical of it than me. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
  17. This was mentioned in part upthread, so credit to that person https://www.hccommunityjournal.com/article_fd3f3e9c-3eb8-11ef-9bb2-b32dd8fc6b3d.html
  18. What about DPS? If there had been women standing in line to get an abortion at 30 days of pregnancy they'd have fucking SWAT out there.

  20. It certainly shouldn't be your or any parent's responsibility. I'm not advocating for that. But somewhere in the chain well-qualified people need to review and approve emergency contingencies, and make sure they're prepped every year.
  21. Does anyone recall from their children's books about when it's a good idea to cry wolf, or should I ask grok? Afaf
