  1. Little darlin is owned by the Yellow Jacket Social Club folks. The chef at little darlin used to be the chef at a The Nitehawk in Brooklyn, which is a movie theater that serves booze and good food and owned by my buddy, a former fellow Longhorn. The fried chicken sandwich is better than the burger, imo, and the burger is damned good.

I love little darlin. It’s right down the street from me. I also love metal and country music and chicks with tattoos and smoking cigarettes on a patio and those are all things I can do there.

  2. I'd eat that.  I'll have to make a weekend trip south of the river.

There’s a joint in round rock called Lucky’s Chicago grill that sells beefs. No idea if it’s worth a shit. Not sure how far north you are.
  3. Happy to report that the combo at Wrigleyville South food cart on s Lamar is a perfectly acceptable Italian beef sandwich. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, but it will appease your hankering for a legitimate beef. They got it all mostly right, except for using sweet red peppers instead of green peppers, which is more traditional. I took it to go and appreciate it was packaged fairly dry with a sealed side of Au Jus included in the bag. If you take a beef to go that isn’t dry it will almost completely soak through the bun. So that was a nice touch to be able to add jus as necessary. Giardiniera seemed to be Vienna. Crinkle cut fries were decent as well. For reference, my favorite beef in Chicago is mr. beef.

Next I will have to check out Chi-Town Chicago Style Eatery way the fuck out on 620 and Bee Cave, as I discovered they have pizza puffs there.

  4. I had the lasagna there a ton in college. One time their marquee said "Kings and Queens Eat for Free" so a lady friend and I walked to burger king, asked for paper crowns and went to milto's hoping to get free food. They gave us a free soda. Cheapskates. Anyway, I guess that leaves Dirty's and Hole in the Wall as the last relics of my time on campus from 96 - 00.

One reason MJ was considered a gateway drug is that one has to enter drug dealer culture to obtain it.  I understand that today and for some years now, most MJ dealers are strictly ganj.  Back in my day, drug dealers were a one-stop shop and had a tendency to upsell.  And once you are making those transactions, not much to stop you from trying something a little stronger.

This is a fairly dramatic take, and has not been my experience at all. Drug dealers don't have to upsell shit. They're not used car salesmen. The drugs sell themselves. They may let you know that a mushroom crop has come in if they think you'd be interested, but they're not pushing crack cocaine on high school kids that come in for a bag of weed.

Please report back.  Looking at their menu, my skepticism is aroused (oh my) by the fact that giardiniera is an add-on.

shit. at least it's giardiniera and not banana peppers. I'll order a combo hot, sweet and dipped and see if they fuck it up.

now, let's find a place that has pizza puffs

Any recs on a legit Italian Beef in Austin?  And if one doesn't exist, why aren't we opening the Surly Sammich Shoppe?

I've done extensive research and, to my knowledge, there is not a legit Italian beef sandwich in Austin.

Edit: there appears to be a Chicago food truck that opened called  Wrigleyville South Dogs & Beef and their beef at least looks fairly legit. I am going to go to lunch there tomorrow.

I think Quinnen Williams has a case to be the overall number 1.

I'm just saying if I'm a Cardinals fan and we have the top pick in the draft and we come away with Nick fucking Bosa I'm gonna feel like we got jobbed. That dude is destined to spend half of every year on IR and give you 7 sacks over the 8 games he ends up playing.

Not upset.  It just seems trivial to me to fly from H-town to Jersey for that.

If we didn’t have shit else going on, I probably wouldn’t have even raised an eyebrow...

    That is ridiculous.

Re: the booze discussion, the wedding planner we paid $800 to do absolutely nothing said that we should plan on 2.5 drinks per person. I audibly laughed at her.

The name you're searching for is R. Bowen Loftin, who guided aggy to the SEC as its president and then proceeded to become chancellor of Missouri, where he oversaw its gradual slide into fuckery, created a “toxic environment through threat, fear and intimidation," and was summarily fired.

Who is threatened, intimidated, or is scared of that doofus in a bow tie?

I'm not against that.  Coaches can change schools like underwear without having to sit out.

How come football and BB are like, the only 2 NCAA sports where sitting out is required?  Texas just got 4 softball transfers from Oregon and all of them are eligible for 2019.

While I agree with you, I doubt it will happen. This would basically make it OK for any player to transfer when there is a HC change. There aren't mechanisms in place to allow for a team to replace 15-20 kids who want to go somewhere else if their HC gets fired or takes another job. I doubt they grant it. Just like they shouldn't allow Fields to play immediately because one dipshit baseball player tweeted something racist one time.

Is there a food desert in Texas in a major city?  Where?  Because I guarantee in Houston 3 miles max radius I can find a regular or Mexican grocery store that will have anything you need.

By the strict, and admittedly kind of ridiculous definition of not having a grocery store within a mile of your house, yes, there are plenty of food deserts in major Texas cities. But I think a mile is a much too narrow definition. I think two miles is more reasonable.

When faced with the choice between walking 500 feet to the McDonald's around the corner, or walking three miles and trudging your groceries home, people choose the McDonald's like 95% of the time. It's much easier to make the unhealthy decision when faced with those two choices - even for people that really do want to eat healthier.

I am not suggesting we have some moral obligation to build supermarkets on every corner. But understanding a lack of access to quality fresh fruits and vegetables is a contributing factor to why poor people keep choosing that McDouble over the hassle it takes to get some fucking broccoli.

It’s a lack of education and laziness.  Grocery stores are everywhere.  They even take food stamps.  Buy rice, beans, frozen veggies and protein. It’s cheaper than fast food. And much better for you.

There are not grocery stores everywhere. That's why it's called a food desert. People are no inclined to take a bus for two hours with three transfers 10 miles away to go to a grocery store when you can get a mcdouble down the street for a buck and change.
