    Doves

Good Evening Neighbors, My tortoise decided to visit the our Dove Aviary and left the gate open. My white doves have gone on the fly by Westgate area. They are NOT pigeons. If you can catch them(they are harmless) please contact me. They will be easy fodder for our hawks in our area. They do not know any better and probably can't fly long distances. Thank You,

For folks down in South Austin who are out there trapping birds.

    Also, damn tortoise opening gates...

  2. I knew we'd get to the point of arguing the subjective. Way to go people. I'm proud of how predictable we are.

Counting Crows and Black Crowes don't make the list because they write boring music for boring people who otherwise don't really like music. There's nothing challenging about their music or their lyrics. It's mom rock. How's that for a hot take?

I wouldn't put Nirvana on my list because I view punk and metal as offshoots and not subsets of rock when I think about lists like this. They're too punk. Muse (from my list) started out a little too metal, but are now firmly within a rock mainstream. Foo Fighters would fit as a rock band. The subset view would be easier.

For the love of God, don't mention Nirvana and Muse in the same paragraph ever again. I kinda feel like we're at the point where if there is a guitar and/or bass and actual drums, it's "rock" music.

I know I'm old now because 1) I'm finally a man because I turned 40 and 2) I just do NOT understand the appeal of the soundcloud xanax emo rap shit. I read this interview with Dave Grohl and he had this to say:

    Quote

“It depends how you define punk rock,” says Grohl. “You know who Lil Pump is?” he asks. Actually I do, I say, somewhat proudly. He’s the so-called “Soundcloud rap star” who overdosed on Xanax and coke late last year. “No. That was Lil Peep. Lil Pump is from the same genre, that slow-cooked emo hip hop thing. Anyway, he has a song called ‘Gucci Gang’. It’s hilarious, the video has tigers and bags of weed and blue Lamborghinis in it. Yet for my eldest daughter, Lil Pump is punk rock. In 2018, music doesn’t – and shouldn’t – sound like it did when I was 14. I guess for me punk rock is about a state of independence and if that’s Lil Pump then so be it. It’s about being free to do whatever the hell you want to do.”

That being said, I think he's totally wrong, but it's subjective anyway

Anniversary dinner. Lots coming up in the next month so we decided to take it easy at home tonight. Perhaps the best filets I’ve ever cooked - wish they had been thicker rather than wide but can’t really complain too much. Cast iron FTW

Looks excellent. I surmise from your sideways pictures and from your plates that you and the missus are celebrating your 50th anniversary together. Quite an achievement.

I haven't even heard of it.  Vaughn did a guide for San Antonio barbecue last year that listed 20 something barbecue joints in San Antonio and most people know their aren't 20 barbecue joints in San Antonio worth going to.  Guides generally give information about as many places as possible, hit the positive high points for any given restaurant, avoid the negatives, and don't rank them.

Jimmy Ho of The Smoking Ho came out with a pretty inclusive guide for Austin earlier this year.  He was on the old board for a little while, but I haven't seen him make an appearance here.  He takes some of the best food pictures I've seen.

I know it's not Texas Monthly Top 50, but any guide to cue in Austin that doesn't mention the Turbo T-Man is incomplete.
