All we need is like an hour of evening news every day. That's it. We don't need all this bullshit telling us about things in areas where we will never live that we will never deal with with updates every 5 seconds.

Season 9 Thank You GIF by The Office

Those of us who were 80s kids, a lot of our parents flipped out over the Adam Walsh murder, the Tylenol poisonings, and the rumored needles in Halloween candy.  That shit happened a long ways away from a lot of us and should not have affected our parents.  Plenty of parents all of the sudden got nervous about dumping their kids at the mall, or worse, they turned their Gen X kids into helicopter parents.

As long as it doesn’t affect housing inventory in a manor that would drive prices sky high again.

Housing inventory won’t be a problem, given the number of foreclosures due to a shitload of businesses going under and people getting laid off.  Of course, food will get really fucking expensive, as would gas, and the service industry, etc.

It’s interesting to ponder - imagine just a single industry that relies heavily on illegal immigration.  Either imagine that industry collapsing or at least raising their labor costs drastically.  Imagine what that does to their customers’ buying habits and imagine what it does to the companies that rely on them.

Supposedly Abbott is shortlisted for AG and team Paxton is gearing up to primary against Cornyn.  But the same person says the FIRST Texan on the list for a cabinet spot is Sid Miller for Ag Secretary.

All quite credible.  But Paxton would prefer AG, and he sucks Trump's dick harder than Abbott, and we know that's all that matters in Trumpland.

Trump doesn’t want anybody in a wheelchair close to him - it’s a sign of weakness.

I've never been in a residential basement in my life. TV does make them seem cool though.

They’re cool, both literally and figuratively.  Had one for a few years as a kid. If we end up moving up north once the kids are older, I won’t look at a house that doesn’t have one.

I've gotten a $7,500 quote on a small 3-person shelter bolted to the slab in the garage, but it's such an irrational purchase statistically.

Depends on how many cheerleaders they hold.  If the storm shelter industry is anything like the camping/tent industry, take the number of people you want it to comfortably hold and double it.

the people attacking higher education always seem to forget these same institutions managed to produce THEM.

Gotta pull that ladder up after they get in the boat.

And I have a feeling we haven’t seen anything - Abbott has got to be just seething with rage after seeing Paxton hanging with Trump today.  That impotent little man will be looking to see more people hurt in Texas because Daddy Trump ain’t showing him any love.

What is deporting 11 million people going to do to inflation and the economy!? JFC, you think things are expensive now, how much is it going to cost to frame a house/buy a package of strawberries/go out to eat/literally everything that laborers touch?

The same stupid fuckers who say things like "no one wants to work anymore" can't see any problems with this?

Not to mention the pure evil of ripping that many families apart, but they don't care about that. (probably a welcomed side effect actually)

If it didn't also come with a complete end to Democracy, and living in a fascist state with an uncertain future for my son, I would 100% be cheering for this to happen to watch all of these people get exactly that for which they have asked.

It would destroy Texas’s economy.  And I mean destroy it. There would be so many million- and billion-dollar companies that would have to fold or shrink way down.  Hell, a shitload of local six-figure companies would go under as well. People truly do not realize how the economy in Texas works.  Quite a few family farm and ranches would find themselves being sold off by the banks.

I’ve told relatives who espouse this shit just what it would mean - imagine replacing the Mexican who mows their lawn or puts a new roof on their house with an “American” who wants twice as much (or more) money and half-as-many hours, nor the Honduran who changes the oil or tires on their truck, or the Guatemalan who harvests the tomatoes they eat, or the Mexican who brings their food out at the restaurant, or the Nicaraguan who works the kitchen there, or the Brazilian who fucks their wife or daughter, or the Panamanian or Costa Rican who cleans the hotel room they stay in, or the Mexican who cleans their home, or the Guatemalan who cleans the bathrooms and empties the trash at work, or the Venezuelan or Salvadoran that repaves the street in their area or helps build their dream home - imagine replacing all of those jobs and many more with Americans with 2-3 the price of non-Americans, and probably higher because the labor market will be turbofucked,  Not to mention all of the businesses that sell to these people, that would also go under.

I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased to see first illegal dam being dismantled.  Landowners are going to have to raise their level of vigilance on these kinds of illegal acts going forward.

It seems like they are getting reported to the local authorities, but it takes the news media putting their shit on blast and talking to TPWD, TCEQ, etc. to get things done.

1 hour ago, Steel Shank said:

TPWD and TCEQ need to look into drones or planes to check the water ways then fine the shit out of the offenders. Especially repeat offenders.

Mere fines won’t work - these rich fuckers would happily pay the fines if they got to keep the water from going downstream. They are putting in some heavy duty infrastructure - that’s not Joe Bob Smith filling up his pickup to make a small dam or divert some water for his cattle. I’d even argue that based on how expensive it was to put in these dams, they were counting on only getting fined. Wouldn’t surprise me if they had an arrangement with local officials,

As it is, with the first dam, they get to keep 90 feet of the 400 foot dam as “access ramps”.

And a 400 foot dam is fucking huge

If you wanted food and water when you started your illegal occupation of a facility, you should have planned ahead and brought some.

My son’s Boy Scout troop camps in primitive areas and these are kids from 11-17 or so years old, and yet somehow they are able to hike up to a mile, bringing in their own water, food, tents, sleeping bags, clothes, etc.  And it’s food they are cooking and not some freeze-dried shir, These 18-and-up students couldn’t be bothered to hit up the McDonalds down the block, or bring a case or two of granola bars or bring some water jugs and fill them up once inside.

But this is about being performative and "look at me," not about any actual well-thought-out strategy.

Yep.  Nothing they are doing will attract Israel or Hamas’s attention or change any minds whatsoever.  It’s clearly for the social media likes, based on the lack of preparation.  The fact they didn’t prepare makes me think they wouldn’t actually get in and be stuck there.

And based on my knowledge of protests at UT, I’d bet half the guys there are trying to get into the pants of one of the women (or men).
