We hiked down into Waimea Canyon and through the valley for quite a ways before climbing back out. It's incredible.

Many thanks, that looks great! Will definitely check out for a Plan B.

Doing the extended Kalalau (22 mi +Day hikes into the valley) mid Jan if it doesn’t get rained out. Probably won’t risk the Honopu Beach swim due to the winter water, but would love to give it a try (or kayak there) someday.
Any good post hike/backup hike recs for a no kids trip? Remaining time will be split between Hanalei and the south shore.

Much better than I was expecting, but my god did it hit close to home. Yes, some of the bits are over the top satire, but the various social media, politics, news cycle, favorability ratings, capitalism beats each ring depressingly true on multiple levels.Â
You could almost predict how any given situation will churn out.We could all truly come together and work to slow/stop the existential crisis to the benefit of all, but instead self interest prevails, particularly in our leaders and decision makers.
The charging for snacks bit was hysterical.

Yes. Saying poor kids are just as smart as white kids is extremely racist. Â
Ummm what? Poor doesn’t equal not white.

I guess we should just murder all poor kids. Â Pre or post birth. Â Even though they are just as smart as white kids. Â
What? This is somehow both nonsensical and racist?Â

I don’t outlaw anything.  Sex Ed is taught everywhere.  It’s not some fucking complicated subject matter  Â
You guys make excuses and enable bad choices.  Instead of speaking the truth.  Almost no one gets pregnant unplanned unless they make bad and impulsive choices.  It isn’t because they can’t afford free birth control or free rubbers.  It isn’t because they don’t know fucking can lead to pregnancies because Republicans stop them from learning that. Â
Why do we want people who make bad and impulsive choices to have kids that they don’t want…
-
And even if some “fuck ups” have kids they can’t afford, that doesn’t change the fact that the kids are still here, no matter how much scolding you do. Is the the prevailing republican thought really “sorry kids, sucks to be you”? Isn’t it in everyone’s best interest that the kids are supported so that they don’t grow up to be “fuck ups”?

That's a bit of a big qualifier.Â

If it can’t survive (even with hospital care) without being connected to/propped up by the “mother”, it’s an extension of the mother.Â
ÂNo one is forced to donate a kidney to their child once it’s out of the womb, why should a parent be forced to “donate” her nutrients etc., while in the womb? Pregnancy is very demanding on a lot of the systems on the body (teeth for example). It’s a tremendously high ask for someone who doesn’t want to participate in it.

Can the unwilling carrier of the fetus sue the state for surrogacy fees (standard fee + medical expenses)? Otherwise, gestating a fetus for almost 10 months is unpaid labor to effectuate the state’s interest in protecting said “life”.
Â
Â

So playing this out, could a woman have the “live” fetus removed pre or post viability from her at some point (and not aborted), and then give it up as a ward of the state for the state to then take care of medically? Or would she be forced to continue incubating it  to a viable fully birthed state. What rights does the host “owe” to the fetus. Why can’t they just go their separate ways and let the chips fall as they may?

Penolope Witherspoon totally would’ve been a knot in the back girl.
No idea why this is getting everyone’s panties in a bunch. It’s just an accurate observation of how the world works. Jesus Fucking Christ.Â
It’s not worth the effort expended to explain it to you, but a front knot is an easy way to create an “empire waist” silhouette, which emphasizes the waist, visually lengthens the look of the lower body due to a higher waist line and the front knot creates tension in the back vs the front which is often more flattering for the individual in question. It’s a trend that harkens back to the 70s and is based in actual style principles, not to emphasize a “playboy aesthetic”.

I just skimmed sb8. It allows for abortion in the case of medical emergency or complicating medical condition. Ectopic pregnancies would seem to fall under that. Â
ÂThis bill is stupid and counterproductive. Much better reduction strategy is to address aspects related to abortion that the vast majority of reasonable people can agree on. But our politics are totally fn broken.Â
I haven’t read deeply into the text of the bill because I don’t feel like getting even more depressed at the state of the world, but who gets to determine what is considered a medical emergency or complication? Can someone still come after your doctor for it and then you use the medical carve out as a defense? If so, that will at least theoretically have a lovely chilling effect on life-saving medical procedures.Â

So, how does resolving something like an ectopic pregnancy bear out under this new law?

Yep, my realtor got us a great deal on our property in an ultra competitive bidding process (actually had us winning two bids, as I almost bought hornian’s house) and helped us get inspections (and even repairs after we closed) and negotiated an amazing deal that got us a property below list (unheard of now in this market, but I posted a screenshot a few pages back) in June 2020 when the market was starting this crazy run and then listed our old house and got the highest price per sq/ft in our area at that time.  She helped with staging, minor repairs, and most importantly accurate market analysis and pricing to maximize searchability, that had us 60 tours in 4 days and 20 offers with most of them being above list.  FSBO or a below average realtor would have cost us far more during these transitions.
Not to take away from any surly referrals, but just in case anyone is interested in Austin: https://moatsteam.com
Used someone with the Moats Team as well. Would highly highly recommend.

MP is a friend and is good people. Very moderate, although given the way all of the state Rs have been trending, I’d feel hesitant about aiding her ascent to higher power assuming she proceeds with the inevitable heel turn to the right.Â

What’s so great about being born? It’s like surviving the initial round of a zombie attack. A big goddamn hassle, things gradually just keep getting worse and then you die a painful death.
if you’re never born, you never have to do taxes or meet a lawyer.
