  1. What’s so great about being born? It’s like surviving the initial round of a zombie attack. A big goddamn hassle, things gradually just keep getting worse and then you die a painful death.

if you’re never born, you never have to do taxes or meet a lawyer.

For those of you having just gotten your second shot, I'm aggregating similar stories from all of you about how you felt right after and for the first day.  But how long did the serious shit last with some of you?  24 hours?  36 hours?  72 hours?  I moved mine to Friday afternoon based on what a lot of y'all have said.  Just hoping I can get back to work that next Monday...about 60 hours later.

I felt horrible but was still able to make it through a full day of work yesterday, and I was completely fine when I woke up this morning. If you can take off work, I would recommend it, but I had some closings to handle, so wasn’t really an option for me.

Consider connectivity if video and cell calls are needed and you are notably remote or in a small town that seems suspect for connection.  My experience is the WiFi is not ever as good as advertised.  We bought a booster for remote Colorado RVing. It will not create a signal where none exists, it won’t hold a signal that goes in and out, it won’t convert a 1x to 3G or a 3G to LTE but it will take a weak signal and add 2 additional bars. So if you are in a solid 1-2 bar LTE reception you’ll end up with full strength.  The only problem is it really does have to be extended high. So an Airbnb might not like that apparently affixed to their structure but we use zip ties.  So it’s not really affixed.

Agreed. We go to Pagosa frequently and prior to getting a booster, there were always issues in getting enough reception to connect to the document management system or any other function on the server beyond just email.

Just got the shot at HEB.  Bit of advice, get there early.  I stood in line for 45 minutes just to get checked in.

For those that have gone the HEB route, have you received an email regarding your second shot yet?  I was told that you needed to confirm your appointment and that I should have received the email already, but nothing yet.

I got my 2nd appointment email confirmation after checking in for shot 1, but prior to actually receiving the shot. I would speak with the pharmacy again to confirm.

  5. I’d posit the following:

Ann Peebles - I Can’t Stand the Rain

-I think this one is a bit debatable, but I still maintain that it stands out.

Missy Elliot - (piggy backing on the above) The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) and Gossip Folks

-The stuff she was putting out in that era really didn’t sound like anything else, despite that broader type of music getting really popular.

I'm 39 with no comorbidities and I'm getting my first shot Friday. But I'm an asshole so you'll have to make your own morality judgement.

I’m under 39 with no comorbidites and received my 1st shot during the first round of freezing rain two weeks ago. But I’m a lawyer and also viewed the main character of I Care A Lot as more of an aspirational figure, so you may not want to emulate me.

  7.

This and the Dance Yrself clean from this show were very close calls, but both completely take me back to that era and leave me nostalgic and homesick for that time.

Tough call between her version and the original, but love them both.

I tried coming up with the perfect Texas Democrat campaign ad:

(Ranch scene, white man in Carhartt jacket, wranglers, boots, and cowboy hat holds a Remington 870.)

"Hi, I'm Blanco McGomez, and I'm running to be your Senator.  Pull!"

(Kisses cross on rosary hanging from his neck, then takes skeet shot, drops 2 clays with one shot.  Picks up piece of bacon off skillet on campfire, takes a bite.)

"I think it's about dang time people starting taking care of themselves...and each other."

(Hands shotgun to Mexican-American ranch hand, kindly gives directions to hand in fluent Spanish.)

"We need lower taxes on the middle class and for everybody to pay their fair share.  We need to make sure folks can go to the doctor when they need to without going belly up.  We need our kiddos to be in good schools so they can grow up and help fix this messed up werld.  We need to make sure folks ain't being put in jail for no good reason.  Mostly, we need werkin people to be able ta make a good livin, provide for their family, and for the dang ol' gubment to stay out of their bedrooms, churches, gun safes, and pocketbooks.  And if you vote for me, I promise ta look out for Texans, like you."

(Pulls 9mm out from boot, shoots rattlesnake.  Pan out, show Blanco walking toward his family that includes 3 children with his Mexican-American wife, plus 1 black child and 1 asian child.)

No mention of trains, mama or getting drunk

The problem with Tarrant is twofold. Somehow, Repubs have managed to hold onto city guv in FW and Arlington. It’s really shocking because there are whole bunch of dem votes there but no one has been able to harness it. Surprisingly, most of the recent dem vote growth has been in the mid cities.

Meaningless anecdote, but in my mom’s Arlington neighborhood that typically skews very conservative and older, there are tons of Biden signs. Some trump flags as well, but the Biden signs now out number them by a 3-4:1 measure.

Got in line at NW hills rec center around 9:55 am. They had a sign showing the 60 minute wait mark about 10 people up the line, said fuck it and went to ACC highland. The line was massive there, but was moving so quickly that I able to drive there from NW Rec center, wait in line and finish voting, all by 10:35. Would highly recommend.

As a clarification, ACC Highland is actually at some random Holiday Inn a mile down the road.

Also straight D (except Madeline Connor).

  12. If this all does come to pass, women should be able to request that docs remove the clump of cells at whichever stage they wish, immediately give it up for adoption to the state, and let Mother Nature take it from there, with the state paying all costs to keep it alive. No one’s body should be used against their will to sustain someone else’s life.
