Dele is reportedly very similar in athletic ability to Wheeler. White has played in every game for OU this year.

OU's defense is even worse than ours, big whoop. Put White in our scheme right now and we'd look the same.

Maybe we end up regretting not taking White later, but it doesn't matter right now.

  2. He bases all of his "evaluations" on whatever game he happens to attend, and he rarely goes to see any player more than once. So a lot of his stuff is based on really small sample sizes. The one time he went to see Rondale, he had a bad game, so that was pretty much it.

It's self-involvement, the most important games to him are the ones he goes to, even though the ones he goes to are completely arbitrary.

Once he got into Stanford, it was over. He promptly flipped from Notre Dame to tree, and that was that.

Yea, I remember he was a really smart kid, spoke multiple languages and stuff. But I couldn't remember the exact situation regarding his commitment. I hate the damn Stanford conversation as much as anybody, but they are, in fact, a pain in the ass.

The real miss was Paulson Adebo.

I liked him and Kennedy Brooks coming out of Mansfield.

That dude was a quintessential example of Charlie not having any sense of order or cohesion to his recruiting until like a week before signing day. Offered him waaaaay late with no sustained push.

We offered in the summer before his senior season iirc, which isn't super late, but it was almost a full year after BlowU offered. We were definitely not early on that recruitment. Adebo may have just been one of those guys who was going to Stanford no matter what, but honestly I don't know, because like you say, I don't think we ever pushed hard enough.

We passed on Benjamin for Carter + Young (not that that's really worked out 100% better). The staff wanted two backs and Benjamin was apparently extremely angsty about being a solo RB1 take.

It was Carter that scared Benjamin off. Eno was fine coming in with a lower rated back.  He didn't want to be in the same class with Toeneil.

RabidM is right in that Eno was not the only back in his ASU class, but he was the highest rated.

But we stopped pursuing Eno. Carter wasn't even THAT highly rated. We weren't that interested in Eno by the end of the cycle, I'd bet that offer was not committable.

Way to be rational.  It still stings.

And losing a kid from this state to anyone OOS is always considered a miss, just because it was a foregone conclusion that we didn’t spend much time thinking about doesn’t make it feel better when you here the announcers talking about how great the player from Texas is.

Watching Stanford v ASU and keep seeing/hearing about Smith, Little and Benjamin (even though we passed on him) sucks.

Yeah, I hear ya. I just don't think there are any regrets when it comes to Kaden Smith, I don't even think us winning would've gotten him off Stanford, he was very locked in and committed super early iirc. Some kids just aren't going to come here. Little and Benjamin sting more to me because they involve self-inflicted wounds (especially Benjamin who we just passed on in favor of Toneil Carter).

I believe Kaden Smith is a Texan.
Irv Smith wasn't really a miss. He was a late target after we lost Tennison, iirc.
Did we really run Gentry off for freakin' Kai Locksley? Sure, he was never gonna be a QB, but goddammit, Charlie! And that's cause Michigan always has like 12 TE's on roster.
Noah Fant was a low-rated athlete. Doubt we were ever on him. I don't even know who Albert O is.

Beck has been been a godsend t his year. So happy he's healthy and contributing. I'm not crying over those 'misses', though K. Smith and Fant are pretty awesome.

Irv Smith and Major Tennison were not even the same class, and I'm pretty sure Gentry decommitted well before Locksley committed. We didn't run anyone off, Locksley was the back-up plan.

Really hope you're right about the TE's. Saw this tweet the other day and got an instant migraine.

    That stings

Kaden Smith showed very little interest in us, he'd only be considered a miss because he's from Texas, but he hardly even entertained the idea of coming here. We recruited Gentry as a QB, and given how we never moved Swoopes to TE, I'm not confident we would have moved Gentry in time for him to have any real impact. The only one that stings is Irv Smith, imo. Bama swooped in last second and took him.

I'll get blasted for this, and I like him as a prospect, but this is weird fit in the class

It's only a weird fit if you're locked into Baker and McDaniels, which I get. But I'm just not sure we're in a position to turn down a top 50 prospect. A bird in the hand and all that.

I remember when people were talking about Glass possibly being a 5 star when he was a frosh on the shag. I have no doubt he's a good RB, but is he good enough for Texas? Admittedly I haven't seen him play, but I just know the Katy RB system has failed most of the time. I know he's gotten a ton of carries, but how good is he? Would he be a take?

He wouldn't be my top choice, and he isn't for the staff, but I wouldn't feel awful about him being a backup plan.

The Katy RB thing is overplayed to me. Projecting players in different systems and at different levels of competition is what scouts and coaches get paid to do, they should be able to take into account the Katy system and still evaluate the RBs at Katy as individuals.

I'm with you. It's why I didn't mention Glass. He seems like another Katy player who has a great line, but fails to translate that to the next level (sans  Rodney Anderson)

He seems to be somewhere in between Porter and Anderson. We could potentially lose several running backs, so we probably need useful bodies. He wouldn't get me very excited.

Anderson continues to sting. I met him and his step dad before while he was uncommitted. His step dad was a huge Sooner fan, so I knew we were screwed.

Best Katy RB is quite some time and it's not even close.

I want Glass to be good, but I just don't see it happening. I hope Texas is looking nation wide for the second RB spot. Surely there have to be better options in California.

I don't see Glass being anywhere as good as Anderson, but he's much better than Porter imo. There's an old post on the shag of me telling people Porter wasn't even the best RB on his own HS team, back when he was a senior at Katy and Glass was a Freshman. It was obvious back then, Porter got the carries because he was the upperclassman.

    Hahahahahaha. -47 for one post.

Funny story. This idiot starts posting "I guarantee it" bullshit back on September 1. I called him a troll.

This idiot runs around the board and negs like 30 of my posts for calling him out. If anyone doesn't know, I don't rep because I don't care. I'm a neverrepper. The negging was amusing but sad. Crowdsource this idiot.

He negged my history too. I hadn't even commented in like 3 days, but it made me realize how wrong and inferior I am.

Yeah, that’s his move. Did the same to me. It’s a wonder how he doesn’t realize why no one likes him.

Kids want to play, and playing in the SEC, even at a dumpster fire is better than what most other schools can offer. Catalon wouldn't sniff the field here, outside of injury and/or STs, until his junior year. That's if the 2020 kids didn't beat him out.

We currently have a safety playing NB, that is routinely seen trying to tackle slot receivers from behind after 20+ yard gains.

Are you paying attention to any of the things you’re saying?

    You're both assuming it wasn't Burt's decision.

If the staff is allowing him to choose, it means they're not all that concerned about keeping him as CJ and LJH insurance.

I think Burt is a good kid, but he's not one of Herman's guys and he's no longer an impact player. I'm betting Herman would prefer the extra schollie.
