Another thing that has happened and this board doesn't want to admit is that we have run out of any sort of recruiting fuel from our succes during the 00s. I was in middle school when we lost to Bama in 2009 since then I have graduated college most of these recruits where in kindergarten tha last time Texas was a contender.

We all can count, you’re not dropping any kind of truth bombs.

Hah, I'd even forgotten about Smith. I was mostly just annoyed at @Neonmoon because he only referenced the two misses without acknowledging the other side. I think Whittington's a sick athlete, too - he's been a bit underhyped (despite his ranking) because he committed early and has stayed solid. Still, whiffing on Wilson and Wright does suck.

Neonmoon was just criticizing Mehringer and that is entirely warranted. Jake Smith was a Beck recruitment, he barely ever even mentioned Mehringer, and a sack of potatoes could've recruited Whitington here, he is a major Texas fan, there hasn't been a bigger layup since Ehlinger.

The misses have far outweighed the makes. I'm starting to understand why CTJ gets driven up the wall about this, Mehringer does not warrant any defending.

    Staff getting worked though

Yeah, I've grown tired of all of the dead weight on this staff. Mehringer is every bit as awful of a recruiter as Giles is, there are just more good WRs to choose from than DL, so he can fuck up a bunch and still land a decent class. But he's whiffed just as much, if not more.

  4. 3 hours ago, HtownHorn said:

That's not his decision, and how many 2020 guys has Texas offered? How many of these DL have actually been on campus?

We’ve offered like 50 guys. There are more than twice the amount of offers out to RBs right now than there are to DL, it’s a legitimate criticism, blame whoever you want. At this point it falls on Herman too, he should know what Giles is by now.

And if they haven’t been on campus, then get them on the damn campus, they all seem amenable to Texas, that shouldn’t be an impossible task.

.0000001% chance this has any effect on Wilson or any other tOSU recruit.

    sad but true.

It'll only have an effect if Meyer is gone. I imagine OSU will make every excuse in the world for him, but they fired Tressel over some tattoos. That's some wild inconsistency.

Is it hottake-esq or heresy to think that Evans might end up as a better prospect than AD?

    It's kinda hot-takey

Damn, is Evans really that fucking good?

ESPN just dropped their Jr. 300 and had him as the #2 ranked player in the nation. I don't think he's AD, but he's about to get recruited like he is.

Trying to decide what game to go see 8/31 in DFW looks like these are my best choices

    LT-Martin

    Aledo-Guyer

    Coppell-Sachse

    Duncanville-Lancaster

Id like to check out Card but Martin gets blown out in these big games every time and I dont really want to go to a game that's going to be over in the first 20-30 minutes. Coppell-Sachse is two really good teams but the longest drive for me. Maybe I'll go check out the freshman for Southwest who's getting vy comps already

Aledo-Guyer is a good matchup. I'd check that one out.

Yeah, I'd go with Aledo-Guyer out of that group. I don't see Martin competing with LT either. From a UT perspective, Duncanville-Lancaster has a lot of 2020 guys we are interested in, but I wouldn't expect that to be a good game either.

That defense was one of the more talented units in the conference.

The offense, outside of a couple of receivers was not a very talented bunch at all. Had basically zero tight ends, olinemen who shouldn't have been playing, a true frosh QB who made some boneheaded mistakes. No, I will not accept that Herman had the equivalent talent to work with on offense that Orlando did on defense. It wasn't close.

I'm not putting this first year of offensive suckage on Herman. This year is when I start to worry if it's looking similar.

It's fine that you are giving the offense the benefit of the doubt, but recruits aren't required to, especially not when your OC is currently Tim Beck and your WR coach is Mehringer. Those guys don't have the resumes.

Aggy has the #3 class right now. It will probably fall anywhere from #6 to #8 from people passing them up.

Texas is #9, but we will likely fall as well, but what if we don't?

If there any scenario on the roller coaster where we finish with a higher class?

Why is it "likely" we fall, we only have 15 commits.

I mean Georgia is being Ole Miss obvious with this shit

Aggy is easier to see that something is happening but Georgia has definitely clicked it up a notch the last two classes. You don’t land that many 5 stars in one class multiple years in a row.

Yeah, everyone does it to some extent, but the rumor circulating around the region is that Georgia is definitely in Ole Miss mode...

Georgia has enough pedigree to get away with it though. I don't see them getting Ole Missed.

  11. I like the Tillman commmitment simply because it’s a reminder that no 9.95er really knows whats going on this recruiting cycle and that’s fun.

You’d think this would stop some people from hanging on their every word, but I guess when there isn’t much else to talk about, people are going to do that no matter what.

Seems like Sylvester and Bryant could be easy gets if/when offered, just going off some early info.  2 of the top 3 pass rushers for this class along with Dorbah.

Given our DL recruiting struggles of late, we should've already offered them. Why risk the possibility of alienating two guys we are obviously going to offer at some point anyway?

Looking at the 247 composite for California shows some odd looking numbers. There are several 4-star Cali players with very few offers for being so highly ranked. The only uncommitted DT in the Top 50 is #15 Jacob Bandes who only has 17 offers. (You have to go well down the list of uncommitted Texas 4-stars before you find anyone with less than 20 offers.) No OU or UT offers, much less USC or UCLA. Seems odd for a Top 20 player. Sean Rhyan, the top ranked OT at #9 has only 16 offers but those include USC, UCLA, and Stanford and most of other Pac 12, along with Bama and ND. There are several other 4-star players with offer lists that say 3-star. There are even four 4-star guys with less than 10 offers. Either these guys are steals or they are ranking misses.

As for the Top 10, everyone of note has offered Thibodeaux and McCoy, but neither us nor OU have offered ILB To'ot'oo (are our juvenile coaching staffs too busy laughing at his name? he has offers from a lot of big time programs), WR Ford (neither of us needs to look far for WRs) or OT Rhyan (who I am guessing is a USC lock).

Don't take offer lists on 247 as some sort of gospel, there's no heavy duty reporting around it, most of it is just what the kids self-report.

So what you are saying is that in reality I am right, but if you go beyond reality then you are right. I'm okay with that but I still think you are wrong. Even in the realm of the absurd, I think there would still be cheating.

It's not beyond reality as in literally financially impossible, its beyond reality as in the NCAA just wouldn't do it unless they're forced to. The current scenario is just fine with them, they don't really care about under the table money, they just need to make it look like they care.

And cheating never goes away 100% in anything, but it would be significantly decreased imo.

It's all opinions, but this tangent has gone a bit too long for my liking, so you can be "right" or whatever.

  15. 14 minutes ago, Bevo said:

It wouldn't matter. Even if they were getting 50K per year, Georgia would offer them more to play school there and hopefully beat Bama.

I disagree. There is definitely  a number that would cut down on it, it's just a really high number that has no chance of happening, so it's not even worth debating.

The players have a market value, if their stipend ever got close to it, under the table stuff would stop being worth it. Georgia is willing to spend a lot of dough, but their money is not infinite.

I just looked at OUs class. Theo Wease is a 5 Star? What?

44 minutes ago, Bruh Man said:

He's really good. All of their receiver commits are beasts.

Wease is good, but he is massively overrated by Rivals. They have him as the #3 recruit in the entire county, which is ridiculous.
