I’m not gonna lie, I always disliked Herman as a person.  The hire made sense and was super safe, but the guy is a douche.

I would probably be secretly giddy if something at OSU or Houston came up that required us to cut him.  Because if he is not going to win, I don’t need a condescending Bob Stoops wannabe coaching my team.

If I had to guess, I’d say this is about to get really ugly with the media. Strong sucked but was always likable. Herman is an asshole. Can’t be an asshole and suck.

so can the fellating of Oscar Giles' coaching finally stop? Cause our experienced, supposedly talented D-line has been a complete and utter nonfactor so far.

Kinda past the point of focusing just on Giles. Probably should be focusing on the man who decided to keep him.

O'Connor lost a lot but has a really good o-line and running back. Very well coached as well. Steele is the most individually talented team in the area, more than Judson even IMO but since Saenz took over they seem to start seasons sluggishly. Once October rolls around they'll be humming.

Anyone familiar with Tyler John Tyler? I know they were good back in the day but have no idea how good they've been lately. Cedar Hill beat them 57-0 tonight and I'm trying to gauge how impressive of a win that is.

TJT had an uncharacteristically bad year last year, 5-5 and missed the playoffs, they had made the playoffs 9 years in a row before that.

Cedar Hill also had an uncharacteristically bad year last year too though and missed the playoffs, although they only missed them because they had to forfeit a game.

I realize Jenks is really good, but how does Legacy get their ass beat that badly with that many D1 players?

35-14. Just saw that Catalon got hurt though.

Yeah, Catalon got hurt and that was it. There isn’t another 5A/6A team in the state that relies on a single player more than Legacy relies on Catalon, imo.

Boy I feel like a total retard but when did uil let private play public in district?

Clicking around on maxpreps and it looks like Jesuit is in the same district as allen Plano and prosper?

Jesuit and Strake Jesuit were allowed in the UIL like 14 or 15 years ago. They’re the only two.

    Where have you been?

The '16 class is not exactly living up to its ranking, but aside from that an annual purge of the 3rd and 4th stringers is pretty normal. He's responding to an aggy troll, but Brian Davis actually got this right:

If you know this is a good thing, why were you whining about it 3 posts earlier?

Mack didn't pass on RGIII. Get it right.

Mack wanted him at DB/ATH and had a recruiter put an offer on one of his coaches' desks without actually talking to a coach or Griffin. Griffin told Mack to fuck himself. So, Mack DID actually make a really weak-assed attempt to get him to play DB here.

Well, he passed on him as a QB, but so did everyone else of course. Baylor was RGIII's only P5 offer as a QB. He was never going to play DB though, so Mack's weak-ass attempt ended up being irrelevant anyway.

Not sure about that, but if we can snag Beatty after this year, then DFW recruiting could pick up in a hurry.

As someone stated earlier, two of the most talented DFW kids in 2020 are Duncanville kids where we have an in at. That alone should help imo.

Who did Texas miss on so far this year from D/FW that is a can't miss prospect that hasn't been replaced with a player from another location?

Damn near everyone can be replaced with a player from another location, that doesn't mean we should be happy with ceding one of the state's two largest metro areas/ recruiting grounds.

This is what I really feared about Strong’s recruits. While we were giddy over Malikmas and the signing day massacre, the fact that Strong completely bypassed the high school coaches meant that he couldn’t get the mental and work ethic evaluations of recruits very easily.

Whenever you look at the 4 and 5 star recruiting list, there are always a healthy number of busts. Those busts are not due to physical tools. Physical tools are why they made the 4-5 star list in the first place (unless they were just over-hyped). The busts are due mostly to mental makeup, or injuries. It’s looking more and more like Strong was getting a lot of the 4 stars that lacked the work ethic and/or mental makeup to be successful. Of course, there were probably some 4 stars that should not have been rated 4 stars because they got over-hyped. Strong may have picked up some of those too. Again, the high school coaches are a crucial data source for over-hyped guys.

In summary, it’s looking like Strong’s supposed forte, recruiting, maybe wasn’t quite as good as people thought.

I still think Strong's biggest problem was just that he was a shit coach.

Im not sure I ever really heard anyone say strong’s forte, at any point, was recruiting. Someone else can corrext me if Im mistsken. Now he was a great 1 on 1 recruiter, kids loved him, but I dont think thats what he was known for as a coach ala Mack.

Contextually, Mack had put so little effort into recruiting at the end, that Strong probably looked great by comparison. And if you consider the NFL draft a guide, then he absolutely brought in more talent than Mack did at the end of his tenure.

Mack's recruiting got really really bad. Everything is relative.

Warren played soft even when Strong was coaching here. If a player has talent but is weak mentally or is unwilling to play hard, that is a bad evaluation. A lot of the guys on that attrition list have loads of talent. The evaluations were mostly bad mental and cultural fits.

Yeah, I guess that makes more sense.

I just remember the same comments being made when Strong got here, because he was playing a ton of young guys that were his recruits too.

  11. 3 hours ago, Newy25 said:

I am still trying to figure out what Strong was actually good at. Nothing seems like the correct answer. His evaluations were extremely poor, his players were soft, the conditioning program was garbage and he had no idea what he was doing on game day. Herman and his staff come in late in the 2017 cycle and cobble together a class that passes up almost every single one of Charlie’s guys.

Now that his South Florida team is not stocked with top quality returning upper classmen I suspect things are going to go south pretty quickly for him.

It shouldn’t be shocking that Herman’s guys came in and fit better, they were his guys. That’s how it often works with coaching changes.

Chris Warren obviously has talent, as he’s showing in Oakland right now. Does that count as a bad eval because he was so underwhelming here? Or was he just not Herman’s type of guy?

  12. 32 minutes ago, Hank_Hill said:

Kid fucking sucked here. Money motivated him to maximize his talent. Not that hard to figure out.

Money motivates a lot of guys, you still need to find a way to get something out of them. Other staffs do it. I think Warren got lost in the coaching change shuffle.

When has Duncanville been a power in football?

They won State back in ‘99. The fact that they havent been dominant in the past decade or so is really an indictment of the previous coaching staffs. They’re located in a talent hotbed, all the schools around them have been great (Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Lancaster). And Duncanville is a much bigger school than all of them.

Well, Wease is really good, and plays for a traditional, easy-to-access powerhouse. He's just kind of a dipshit.

They have him at 2 in the nation, not the state, the nation, that is beyond ridiculous. He’s a good player, but no one outside of Rivals thinks he’s THAT good.
