  1. Similar to pops, I wish I had joined the Marines.

My old man is a Marine. Served 27 years. Joined out of college in ‘64 because he knew he was going to get drafted and didn’t want to be told which branch he was going to. Served two tours in Vietnam as an infrantry officer, and retired as a full bird Colonel after serving in the Persian Gulf War. I fucking loved growing up on Marine Coprs bases. I consider it a privilege in life.

But it’s also a tough life on you and your family. We moved every 2-3 years, and my dad had 3 to 6 month deployments, one lasting a full year. He was on a ship at sea when my kid brother was born.

But still, I’ll always have some level of regret for having not been a Marine, even for just a few years. When I was in law school, I came real close to interviewing with the JAG Corps. I felt the pull, but just couldn’t do it. Maybe in my next life.

One of the few times on a board like this when I'm genuinely curious enough to ask "How old are you?"

maybe my memory's off, but simms's interceptions weren't off target from his receivers as much he didn't see the defender was in position to make a play on the ball.  i think colt was more accurate, but simms was pretty close to colt in accuracy.  just colt made much better decisions.

It's a fair point, but even taking away the interceptions, looks at Simms' career completion percentage (58.7) compared to Colt's (70.3).  Twelve percentage points is not "pretty close."  Not to bash on Simms -- he was good.

Also, consider Roy's other QB, Major Applewhite.  In 2000, Roy's freshman year, Major's completion percentage was 54.5%.

So to address the original point of this discussion, Shipley played with a significantly more accurate QB than Roy.  I don't know how much of a statistical difference statistically that makes, but I think it's a big factor (in addition to Roy's general level of dedication).

Holy shit I've never seen that guy work before.  Howard Stern raves about him all the time.  Now I know why.

His bits on religion were outstanding.  This is one of my favorites.

I like both of them just fine, but think even average pho is better than the best ramen I've ever had.

Same here.  Pho broth done right -- especially with the anise flavor that some restaurants leave out or minimize -- is outstanding.

I loved it when Comedy Central first started and the only thing they showed were stand-up segments.

Same here.  I watched a ton of stand-up on Comedy Central during college in the mid-1990s.

And HBO had some great stand-up specials in the 1980s.  I used to love the Rodney Dangerfield Young Comedians Specials.  It's where I first saw guys like Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, and Andrew Dice Clay.  I'd record them on my VCR and re-watch them with my friends for hours.
