Matt Damon's in Eurotrip was awesome.  Shaved head and tatted up.  Scotty doesn't know...

Speaking of which, I watched Thor: Ragnarok with my kid this weekend, and I thought Damon's cameo as the shitty Asgardian thespian was damn funny.

Edit:  Viper beat me to it with less words.

Yeah he really gave a voice to all the white upper middle class teens from suburban chicago

Who would later grow to love The English Patient, your favorite movie.

I passed through Boerne on the way from Bergheim to Uvalde on Friday at 5 pm.

    HELL NO.

Nice town but way too many people and too much traffic on the main surface street (Hwy. 46).  It took me 45 minutes to get from one side of Boerne and over I-10 to the other side and on to Bandera.

I get that, and understand that the locals bitch about how big it's getting.  We have a fondness for Boerne since we always stop for lunch and beers at the Dodging Duck on the way back from our annual family camping trip at Garner State Park.

  4. When we're on a road trip the wife and I talk about where we would go if we had to move to a small town.  Places like Llano, La Grange, Blanco and Boerne get thrown around (although the latter one is turning into a San Antonio suburb).  I say "if we had to move," because it's just fantasy talk and none of us has the urge to leave Austin, as we still love it here and everything a big town has to offer, even accepting the traffic and other bullshit of urban life.

  5. There's much more to the greatness of John Hughes movies (which Michael Knight thinks suck, unlike his favorite movie The English Patient) than just nostalgia.  He was one of the first filmmakers to produce movies for the teen market in high school settings.  Before then, it was a largely underserved tweener market caught between kids movies (e.g., Disney, Star Wars, Superman) and adult movies.  I'd agree with someone who argues that his films were wildly over-dramatic and at times portrayed an exaggerated version of teen angst.  But he really opened the doors to a genre of films in the high school/teen settings, and deserves serious recognition for that.

And you can watch a movie like Planes, Trains and Automobiles (which is 10 times better than Michael Knight's favorite movie, The English Patient), and it's still a quality movie by today's filmmaking standards.

That movie sucked and wrong decade, the best 2 movies from the 80's are Raging Bull and Do the Right Thing. That's not to say I don't enjoy watching Die Hard and Raiders of the Lost Ark and think they are great movies, but Porky's and police academy give me a fucking break. I'm sure in 20 years someone on surly will be waxing nostalgic about the merits of American Pie and Eurotrip.

Yes, I know in what decade your favorite movie was made.

If this doesn't just reach inside you and crush you every single damned time you hear it, I don't want to know you.  I mean that.  If this doesn't reach you that way, you probably aren't someone worth knowing.

Fuck you for making me get all choked up at my desk.

Tell your wife there is nothing better than a Boston Pancake.

Respectfully disagree.  I am a fan of the Boston Snowplow.

I have only stayed at Rosemary Beach, but we bicycled over to Seaside.  Rosemary Beach is more secluded and less crowded.  It's not cheap.  (Neither is Seaside.  I wouldn't ever stay there given the crowds.)

Pretty much that for Rosemary Beach.  We've been there twice and are headed back in June.  It's worth it to go in on a house with another couple or two.  Much less crowded than Seaside.  We have no problem letting our kids roam free around town on their bikes.

  10. Bacharach's songwriting was a bit unusual compared to other pop/easy listening music at the time.  I remember reading that Dionne Warwick and others who covered his songs remarked how much more difficult they were to sing.
