UT has ignored the LT QB Factory at its own peril.

In all fairness, it's not like Texas has been the only major program to overlook Lake Travis QBs.  Michael Brewer landed at Tech and I don't recall other schools beating down his door.  Charlie Brewer went to Baylor after previously committing to SMU.  And we all know that even Oklahoma didn't want Baker Mayfield initially, and Tech just took him as a walk on.

I heard recently that some residential development is going into the old first Honda location off of 2222.   Anyone know more about it?

It's about time.  That site has been deserted for years and it's a pretty good location for it to just sit there for so long.

I watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time in forever recently.  Maybe I’ve just turned into an old man yelling st clouds, but all I could think about is (a) Ferris is basically a sociopath and (b) how did I never realize what an asshole he is until now?  When I was a kid/teenager it never dawned on me that he wasn’t a hero. I must have been a little shit back then.

    You’ve turned into Ed Rooney.

I haven't seen American Beauty since it was in the theater. What about it doesn't hold up? I honestly remember little about it other than boobies.

Same here.  I catch a few minutes here and there when I'm flipping the channels and its on HBO.  It's still a good movie about dysfunction under the appearance of order and happiness, and the performances by Spacey and Bening still hold up.  And I really like Thomas Newman's musical score.

I'll probably get roasted for this but I don't think Platoon holds up very well.   Too....cliched or something and Charlie Sheen's acting doesn't hold up for me, either.

I think Platoon may seem clichéd because of the deluge of Vietnam movies that followed.  I still like it, along with a lot of the other Oliver Stone movies of that era (Born On The Fourth of July, Wall Street).

Edit:  And agreed with Bateshorn's take on the acting.  One of Willem Defoe's best roles, in my opinion.

They’re going to need an undefeated season or else they will not sign a single recruit.

If we win 10 games, I think there's a good chance we'll get some of the leftover all-district players that Jimbo passes on.

  7. I'm in the group that thinks Dances With Wolves still holds up.  Even back then I thought was a bit self-indulgent for Kevin Costner and his acting performances are usually uneven.  The story, cinematography, music, and performances of the Native American cast are still excellent.

A tiger can't change his stripes, I wouldn't trust "Rocket Man" as far as I could throw his fat ass.

Well, with your bad knee Ed, you shouldn't throw anybody

@South Austin because he is the funny love child of Larry Griswold and Rodney Dangerfield.

EDIT: Also a perk of being his best friend is the opportunity to meet his mom.

You mean Larry Griswold, The Diving Fool?

    Quote

Laurens (Larry) V. Griswold (September 17, 1905 – August 24, 1996), known as "The Diving Fool", was an American gymnast & entertainer who was involved in the early development of the trampoline.

If  we're talking about great videos that shaped us in puberty, this one has to be near the top. And in case The Decade Nazis try to say something, it was on an album released in 1989.

I'm pretty surprised it took that long for TFF to come up, honestly.

If the thread was about favorite songs of the 1980s, Everybody Wants To Rule The World would've been my first post.  But we're talking videos, and I think the video for that song was okay, but not particularly great compared to many others in this thread.  In fact, most of the great videos of the 80s featured songs that are pretty meh.

So many great examples. One of the biggest ones for my from the 80s is TFF. Almost posted Shout but for some reason this one just captures the 80s for me.

This is, in my humble (but correct) opinion, the most iconic song of the 1980s. It has biting Cold War lyrics set to a fatalistic shuffle beat, and it was appropriately playing during the closing credits of one of the great 80s comedies also having an arms race theme, Real Genius. This is such a great fucking song that is the soundtrack of my childhood.
