  1. Anyone been this summer? Heading over in a few weeks. Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Tokyo. First time going, I know there are so many amazing small places and now figuring out where to make reservations.
  2. Cross posting, also put this in the things that make you surly. I don’t know how the bartenders and staff aren’t revolting over this. Big time wtf.
  3. I didn’t even notice this until after we left the restaurant. Look at these suggested fucking tip amounts.
  4. Thread needs some heater stories. Like asap.
  5. You most likely know it as Myanmar...but it will always be Burma to me.
  6. It's Hollywood...so yes, a lot of bullshit to wade through. Braveheart? Not a super accurate portrayal of William Wallace. Argo? Not accurate. Captain Phillips? Not super accurate. Pearl Harbor? Lulz. Rudy? Lulz. A Beautiful Mind. Meh. The list goes on and on.
  7. How has J.T. Walsh (RIP) not been mentioned yet?
  8. Damn right!! I made him get Global entry last year, he tried having a conversation with the customs agent about his travel before the interview when we landed and the guy wasn’t having any of it. He finally admits these “government” folks aren’t very social. We drive separate to our home airport, though I can usually wake up around 5am for a 7am flight and open Find My and already see him sitting in the terminal, knowing he’s happy as a clam. It makes me smile. Last year we did the Monaco GP and watched on a yacht, and I’ll just say Dad and I are very different personality’s but I had some ladies on the boat indulge him for some attention and a picture. He had the absolute time of his life. My mom isn’t so crazy about it but I’m thrilled I’ll have these pictures forever. He wore that lipstick like a king for the rest of the day.
  9. Reading this thread brings a big smile to my face. My dad is in his early 70s, spent the first 45 years pretty damn poor but has now done very well for himself. He recently was part-owner of a nice sized business and couldn’t stand paying a yard crew to mow the office grounds so he did it himself on weekends or weeknights. Employees would show up and ask why the guy mowing the yard seemed familiar and their supervisor would say yeah, that’s one of the owners. Lately, he’s gotten an itch to travel the world and my mom doesn’t like to, so as his only son I often go with him. His favorite thing to do when boarding planes is telling the flight attendants where he’s going. He also likes to get to the airport 4 hours early.
  10. I liked it...as others have said Tom Cruise knows how to deliver on these action movies. I don't think it's the best of the series but certainly towards the top.
  11. Who is the tall chick with her tits out that wouldn’t talk to Brundle?
  12. I’ve seen that happen in Vegas, they obviously have a lot of flights that leave both before and after 12am. I don’t understand the “$450 penalty plus full rate.” Why didn’t you just buy three new tickets at that point? Was the $450 to get you credit back for the remaining initial ticket price?
  13. Perez walking into Christian’s office later:
  14. Perez in real trouble here.
  15. Yep, just found that. Thanks!
  16. I just came here to ask that too. Didn’t record on my YTTV.
  17. Got my eye on you, Iglesias. Good save here. https://amp.tmz.com/2023/06/30/gabriel-iglesias-fluffy-private-jet-emergency-landing-plane-north-carolina/
  18. That's a mistake tbh. Some of it like Dreamland is pretty cliche but there are several places that are as good or better than anywhere else.
  19. If you want BBQ check out Hoo's Q & Brew.

    Mad Men

This thread has caused me to sign up for AMC+ and I’m now going through my favorite episodes. Roger losing Lucky Strike. Merger with PPL. Pete losing Vicks after catching his FIL at the whore house. The Chevy pitch. Love this show.

    Tipping

I’ve had this happen to me too and I’ve started stashing $1 and $5 bills in the center consoles of both our vehicles…and then try like hell to remember when I park at the airport to throw at least $10-20 in small bills to cover the shuttle drivers and/or valets…at least for the first couple legs to give me time to have the hotel break a larger bill.

    Tipping

My rule of thumb on those machines is: If nobody is there, no tip. If someone is there doing something for me, at any level, I ask them if they personally get the tips. If they say yes, I leave a commensurate amount depending on what I’m buying or where I’m at. Other rules of thumb: Bartenders at my regular places get tipped more. As said previously, “how quickly do you want your next beer.” It’s nice showing up on a busy Friday night and they make your drink and hand to you and leave other people puzzled who have been standing there 5 mins or more. Restaraunts/Bars where you hang out for a while? Tip based on the expected turn rates and average tabs for the table. So if you sit at a table for 3 hours and prevented the waitress from serving three separate groups in that time, don’t be a dick and tip her maybe 3x. Sometimes even giving a $20 upfront and telling them you’ll be hanging out a while can go a long way.
