  1. I double dog dare one of you degenerates to make that abomination and post photos.
  2. The Llano is a special place. It was my personal favorite place to relax in my 14 years in Austin. Coopers BBQ and beans were the topper. Sounds like TPWD only stocked Castell crossing and they’ve been cleaned out by now. I’d definitely try back after Feb 4th in downtown Llano. The first pool you encounter from walking down from the parking area always held fish, as did the channels above the pool under the bridge.
  3. It’s been over a year since Kent Rollins posted this Chicken & Dumplings recipe and I haven’t made it yet. Big arctic front inbound next week, so I foresee a batch of these in my future:
  4. I’m a little confused by that as well. TPWD used to stock Castell, CR103, and CR102. I used to fish 102, as that was the least crowded. Yes, most fish are 10-12” but there used to be occasionally 16” fish. On warm, sunny days you’ll also catch bass, sunfish, and on rare instances catfish. I large channel cat on a 3 weight is a lot of fun. Some pics from a few years ago:
  5. When I lived in Austin, I used to love going out to the Llano for winter trout stocking. Looks like Castell was stocked in early December but Grenwelge Park in downtown Llano is set to be stocked in early February. https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/trout_stocking.phtml After the first few days, people forget about them being there and I used to love fishing below the bridge and in the different channels. All you need as some nymphs and strike indicator. Used to have some fabulous days and if the weather was warmer, you’d get some Guadalupes and sunfish too. Some great memories there and Cooper’s for lunch…damn do I miss Cooper’s.
  6. More of a camping trip than deer hunt. A long time friend got access to a ranch in San Bois Mountains in SE Oklahoma. We only got to hunt one day as we both were overbooked this time of year, we zero time to scout. Lots of sign but wild timber country (14 miles back off the pavement, through four locked gates) and some serious elevation changes without four wheeler. No deer this trip but good scenery. Planned on a little striper action on way home below Eufaula Lake on the Canadian but no generation happening.
  7. I started following this guy’s Instagram account back when I lived in Austin. He has a BBQ restaurant in Olton, TX. I was interested in stopping by as it’s not too far of a detour from our old route from Austin to Santa Fe. Alas, this is way out of the way now, so hoping one of you enterprising Martha Fockers can check it out and provide a report…burgers and CFS on certain days. BBQ looks pretty solid as well: Brisket Burgers: https://www.instagram.com/p/C0pg2yHy03E/ CFS: https://www.instagram.com/p/C0ShQkWOfuN/
  8. This Sooner will be throwing up the Horns this weekend. I hope you beat their asses and scream the loudest SEC SEC SEC in the final minutes of the 4th quarter. 🤘 So long Big 12 and thanks for all the trophies.
  9. Pappasito’s has a damn good beef enchiladas plate as well.
  10. I’ve posted about this place before but visited again last week - If you are ever in the Tulsa area for business/travel, head to the southern suburb of Bixby and go to the downtown area and hit up Johnson’s Stepping Stone Cafe. Everything is great but their burgers are world-class - they grind the meat daily, flattop-cooked burgers with perfectly toasted buns ($9 for jumbo burger combo)
  11. This was ruled a catch on the field, reviewed and confirmed: Sooners deserved to lose with woeful OC performance but didn’t get any calls.
  12. I forgot to mention we did steam them in a paper bag for 15 minutes or so. Only tip I can think of to keep them falling apart is possibly roasting them less time or less time steaming in the bag. We add a few toothpicks to hold them together in the oven.
  13. Oven roasted chicken rellenos with Ranchero sauce. Used Matt’s original cookbook for Ranchero recipe. A must have cookbook with so many good recipes: Recipe. Of course I used jalapeño: Roasted some poblanos on my outside stove. Roasting chiles has to be the best smell on Earth: My bride cooked some chicken breasts and seasoned with Julio’s seasoning and some comino: I made aforementioned Ranchero sauce (so damn good I don’t know why I don’t cook it more often…easy too: Peeled and seeded the poblanos and filled with chicken, covered with Colby and Monterey Jack, and Ranchero then popped in 350F over for 30 minutes. Served with some type of frozen corn from Trader Joe’s that we use fairly often. Damn good and possibly the healthiest meal I’ve eaten this past month.
  14. It’s like real life Choctaw Bingo man…
  15. I saw this post game last night and was listening to LR blather on but Caleb’s body language was the star of the show. What the…
  16. That poor kid was the worst QB in Oklahoma Football history. No way should he have ever been offered a scholarship. If I ever meet Jeff Lebby, I may kick him in the nuts for besmirching my Sooners with that God awful offer and offensive game plan. Absolutely the worst performance in a century plus of football.
  17. My in-laws lived on a ranch out in Hamilton County when this event occurred. The didn’t see any lights or aliens but they were woken in the night by a sonic boom that rattled the house. Father-in-law walked outside to see what was up and four more F-16 blew over supersonic at full afterburners headed northwest. Never knew anything more than that but it was weird as shit as it occurred the same time as the supposed Stephenville lights event occurred.
  18. That is an excellent list. I’ve also never heard of Avenue B. I’ll have to check it out on my next trip back. I miss a few of those places.
  19. I’ve had an Away Bigger Carry-on for five years and I’ve beat the shit out of it with weekly travel. It’s still rolling smoothly and is unscathed. The Away coat bag accessory is a very good addition as well.
  20. The best breakfasts in the free world occur daily in New Mexico at various establishments. I need a road trip.
  21. Good times at Dry Creek. One of the best times was a show by Damon Bramblett on the top deck at sunset and a perfect weather early November evening back in 2012.
  22. I thought the fly fishers on this thread will enjoy the following tribute to Dave Whitlock. The local Trout Unlimited chapter here in Tulsa, voted last night to change their official name to the ‘Dave Whitlock Chapter’ by a unanimous vote. The video tribute to the late Dave Whitlock was shown last night: Dave was a wonderful, incredibly talented man.
  23. Congratulations from a Sooner my Longhorn compadres! One hell of a win that you all will remember for years.
