  1. To this point, I care much more about how we play against SHSU than UTEP. If we can get our starters out in the middle of the third quarter this week, that’s success in my book, even if there’s still some frustrations. Improve on penalties and 3rd down, rotate a ton, and peak next week going into the bye. If we look great against UTEP then sloppy against SHSU the bye week is going to be miserable around here.
  2. We’ve been sucked into rehashing last year’s run offense (again), but I want to point out that the original claim was that we’ve struggled with running the ball against quality opponents for 4 years. That’s Sark’s entire tenure. Wild claim. Some have forgotten that our run offense was far ahead of the pass game for multiple years and featured these highlights: - We closed a season running wildcat because all our QBs were hurt - We won multiple games by shutting down the offense and only running the ball in the second half - The biggest complaint about our first CFP loss was that we didn’t stick with the run - We had 4 OL and 5 RBs drafted (that I can remember off the top of my head) I don’t have the time or desire to go into individual game box scores, player accolades, or coach advancements, but it’s just not true that Sark/Flood are incapable of putting together a good run offense that performs against good teams. It is true, however, that Sark’s tenure is now long enough that people are forgetting what actually happened along the way
  3. Agree with the general idea (fact) that Arch has more time in a college system than most first time starters this decade, but the playbook this year is pretty clearly different than the last couple years lots of the same concepts in the pass game but there’s still a learning curve to executing in a new way
  4. Yeah, I'm not trying to say he's a space player. Just someone that can run to the sideline fast enough to keep contain. I guess I'm assuming there's some additional pursuit from the backside.
  5. We have a lot of guys that can do it and we’ll mix up who does it down to down. Hill and Simmons have been great at it but Smith, Moore, Spence, Lefau, Zina should all be more than capable Burks and Kanak both looked better than expected yesterday. That’s good news for them
  6. Uh, TEs are our best performing unit through 2 games. What are we doing here?
  7. I'm also expecting a CSU box score, but Waddlington mentioned on his pod that SJSU took 7 deep shots against CMU. So we'll have some opportunities to get after the QB if that holds. (I think it ways 7 of 20+ yards but the 7 number might have included intermediate throws of 10+)
  8. OSU also turtled half the game. Got me thinking back to the Turtle Tom days. First time I’d thought about that part of Herman’s tenure in years
  9. QB School’s (JT O’Sullivan) breakdowns of Arch and Sayin/defense are both free to access at his Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theqbschool I haven’t watched the Sayin one yet but his takeaways from the Arch breakdown (including his thoughts on other players) - Really poor decision making and too many noncompetitive throws, but also some big time throws. Too early to panic - Run behind Goosby more. He made the most movement in the run game. Some plays where he didn’t get the run scheme (especially on the backside) - Confused by a couple of the pass concepts we ran. Some didn’t seem like there would ever be anywhere to go with the ball. Used to seeing better from Sark, but he was also in a tough spot when you build a gameplan expecting a certain level of execution and you don’t get it from the start - Receivers didn’t create separation. OSU defense really fast - Livingstone deserves more targets - RBs (especially Wisner) need to get vertical faster on some plays - Was very confused by OSU fans’ “THE” t-shirts and signs
  10. Yes. That’s why I’m not trying to make my comment specific to Sark. Your expectations for improvement will still depend on your opinion of Sark’s game planning and play calling. I just think the look of a winning offense is drastically different than it was 5 years ago, so we need be looking at our offense in the current landscape instead of comparing it to the great units of the past.
  11. I'm not absolving Sark of all blame or anything like that. But we, as fans and CFB watchers, need to adjust offensive expectations. Scoring is down across the country. There aren't wholesale changes to be made that will 'fix' our offense to our fans' liking. There were three top ten matchups over the weekend and Miami led all participants in scoring with 27. Only two of the six teams broke 20 points. The difference between our offense and those of the other elite teams is in the margins. Those margins have been discussed ad nauseum. For a decade+, offenses ran CFB. We waited for defenses to adjust and now they have. It's also striking how much more athletic elite defenses are than their offensive counterparts. OSU has the best receivers in the country and we shrugged. Their defense was certainly more athletic than our O. I also think the change to a running clock outside of 2-minute scenarios is forgotten by many. When combined with an increase in rushing attempts, that's cutting several drives per game and somewhere between a FG and a TD off scoring averages. Again, this isn't meant to deflect specific criticisms of Sark. My big gripe is that I want to see Wingo used like Worthy. I just think the conversation needs to be about how we can get to 28 points per non-cupcake game, not 35.
  12. Who’s pretending it isn’t transactional?
  13. Stroh seemed fine but the plays at 5:05 and 7:25 scare me. Happened later in the game as well but it wasn’t as bad. Just worried that playing a guy that has that done to him consistently sets a really low floor for the OL, especially in short yardage and RZ situations. Both of those reps were against Eddrick Houston, so maybe other teams can’t replicate it, but UF and UGA can at least.
  14. There’s no way in hell that I’m subjecting myself to reading through all the toxic threads on the board, so for those interested, here are some extended thoughts on the offense after a rewatch My MVP Arch and passing game generally OL
  15. I wonder if the Texas and OSU 9.95ers met up at the same OL graveyard to go whistling or if they’re doing it independently. I assume Snook would be too far for the OSU guys. Anyways, looking forward to both of these great OLs battle it out Saturday.
  16. lol he’s not the one getting his ass kicked. Multiple people have disagreed with you and the rest of us know you’re wrong but don’t see the point in arguing about it in this thread (wait, fuck, I got baited)
  17. I guess they've manufactured enough depth that they can stop strategically re-injurying Goosby Sark's comments about Neto having a good fastball got some (not too much) press as praise, but it kind of read to me like Neto might be too one-dimensional to enable the full offense
  18. You’ve probably already seen that we like our pass rush this year, so some of our skepticism about a guard kicking out to LT is whether they can handle pass rushers with elite speed and/or bend like Simmons, Hill, and Spence.
  19. I don’t have a PFF sub but I’d be interested to see game-by-game grades. Their OL seemingly improved over the course of last season (some of which was scheme change) while ours did not. All the stats I’ve seen posted are full season grades. I think the postseason grades would be more informative. Even with that said, there’s still some missing links, as has been discussed in this thread. Improvement last year doesn’t necessitate the best OL ever this year.
  20. Health is the big question, but our perception of our RBs last year will be very different than yours if you only watched the semifinal game. Blue was very limited as a runner and a horrible pass blocker. With fumbling issues to boot. He was confined to a role as a pass catcher with some upside for explosives on the ground if a play was very well blocked or a defense messed up their fits. Wisner was our best back, but he has physical/size limitations and was worn down to the point of ineffectiveness by the time we played. The group on Saturday should be much more well-rounded at the very least. Baxter, even if not fully healthy, will be our best short yardage back and pass blocker. We missed both of those dynamics badly last year. So better than what we had last year but not as good as what y’all had (at least early in the season).
  21. I'm planning on the 4.99 sling day pass for our ESPN/2/3 games this year. Haven't decided on an option for this Saturday. Currently looking at antenna options. That would cover FOX and ABC right? Other sites listed here are the fallback. I'll contribute with https://therealstreamhub.site/showthread.php?tid=1466. They were awesome for college baseball in the spring.
  22. Obviously not a fan of on-field sponsors, but at least this is a corp founded by UT researchers and launched out of the university. Not many other universities can say that. Plus the product seems to have already been used by the AD for awhile. The UT institution where I work (not Austin) has a department that helps researchers launch companies when they invent something in exchange for a stake in the company. Curious if there’s an arrangement like that here.
