  1. I ended up with a Dallas Cowboy as a neighbor at that time. He was a rookie in Jimmy's last year, and they would usually have a party on Monday night ( I assumed to watch MNF). Seemed like the party would knock off sometime around midnight to 1:00 AM (at least that was when you'd hear a bunch of cars cranking up and driving away). About 3 weeks after Barry hits town, the dynamic changes. The parties were multiple times a week and most of the time they are still at it when I'd get up for a morning run or going to work. I found it pretty amusing how quickly the partying changed. I knew the play on the field would reflect the off field difference over time, I was a little surprised how long they kept it together. Must have been the "Aikman effect".
  2. I can give you my own personal TCU hate. They were among the teams that caused the demise of the SWC. They had zero interest in improving ANY of their sports. They would take their ass whipping and take their check and would have been happy to do so in perpetuity. But like any welfare state, it was unsustainable. Once the parasite had killed the host, then and only then did they have their "uh-oh" moment and decide they had to get serious or give up on being Div 1. Flash forward a few years and they are insulted at not being taken seriously, "other teams are ducking playing us". Oh well by all means, lets completely re do all of our schedules because you decided you were finally serious. As for the University itself, it's a Whataburger at Del Frisco's prices. The only upside is that they haven't been an embarrassment to the state of Texas on the level of Baylor, but they can still go screw themselves.
  3. One of my Air Force Academy friends told me of a guy in his dorm that got a "Dear John" letter. Seems to happen to them a lot since they don't get to leave campus much. In this case, he elected to post it on his door. As guys walked past they added grammar and punctuation corrections, along with commentary on what a skank she was for dumping a great guy and how she would one day regret it. He thought it was such a work of art that she should see it, so he mailed the letter back to her. Her response was photos (pre camera phone days) of her giving her new boyfriend eh, some attention. His response to the photos was to mail them back, to her mother.
  4. So is she kind of a white whale? In seriousness, he obviously has to be suspended from the team until this is settled. Throwing him off at this point jumps ahead of the process. Leaving him on an active status would be inappropriate.
  5. My Dad (Pharmacist Mate then transferred to Marine Corpsman) was taken out in the Pacific on CVE-88. The USS Cape Esperance. Go Navy! Beat Army!
  6. "Hey Guise, we tryn to have a prss confunce ova heer, keep in dnwn!"
  7. Well, if Herman would have gone to LSU we could have picked up Coach O. I will admit to enjoying his press conferences more than Herman's.
  8. I would respectfully disagree on two points, we were chasing Urban with Tom still here, this made me happy as I was sure Tom was gone no matter what. I have a hard time seeing 3 wins with Tom here, no durable QB, and the fruits of his poor evaluations and lack of development coming to full fruition.
  9. Isn't it amazing how just a few guys with keyboards can see so clearly how things work, what the problems are, and how to fix them, just simply amazing. Such an incredible world we live in where the people who have actually achieved something are such total screw ups with no clue (and are monkeys throwing darts at a board) and folks who have never achieved squat have all the answers and their answers are 100% correct.
  10. High IQ is helpful in a number of cases, like figuring out you DON'T want to give UCLA the ball to start BOTH haves in a one possession game. Or remembering your starting QB's name. Not sure that Sabin, Smart or any of a number of other coaches are sporting 180 IQ's but they do seem to know their starting QB's name. You seem bent on implying something racial because of Charlies' race and the fact that he's a dumbass. Get over it, dumbass knows no racial boundaries.
  11. IIRC Ewers was sporting some pretty serious injuries (Hernia or cracked ribs) I think someone mentioned this in the thread. Not going to go out on the limb and say he's a world beater just yet, but I was impressed that he went out there and tried to go. It's only one data point but I appreciate ANY degree of toughness in the era of the participation trophy!
  12. So are you saying that Will Rodgers is STILL on his horse?
  13. I've stayed in many towns for work, maybe more than a hundred. Lubbock and Columbus are probably tied for second. All the others are tied for 1st.
  14. I would worry if he made a quick decision (and it was us). By leaving Ohio St. he seems to be saying he sees no future there for himself. He might not view the whole experience as a mistake, but it would be awfully imprudent to jump somewhere without giving it a lot of thought.
  15. Don't ya be bad talking the milfs!
  16. Well, about 30 minutes ago you seemed to care a lot. If they weren't guessing or conjecturing like most everybody else then maybe.
  17. Okay, but that's different than it being "all Eltife". I don't believe the majority of posters or ANY of the press have clue one what the dynamic is like between the power brokers. They all want to think they do, and some are eaten up that they have no input.
  18. That sets off my BS alert. No decision in an organisation this size is all one guy.
  19. Yeah, that phrase. Doesn't do much for me these days.
  20. Were you told this, or were you there at the time? Just curious how you know this to be the case. Not trying to be confrontational, but the word I got differs from your account.
  21. Pretty much describes my Junior year.
  22. So you're saying "it just means more"?
  23. The story around Austin at the time was DKR wanted Campbell but the UT President at the time (Rodgers I think) did interviews and she was really impressed with Akers suit.
