Also, not thrilled to see the italian death correlation to high blood pressure.  I wonder if that's UNTREATED HBP, or just having it as an underlying condition in general?  I have mild HBP (losing a few pounds would help in that regard -- may be using this situation as the opportunity to do just that with diet and exercise), but not off the charts high.  And as treated, it's perfectly normal.  So, would be interested in seeing the data on that.

Talking to my folks (old man is retired doc) - if the HBP is being treated and you are under 60 then it's not an issue.

Just came here to post this. Holy shit if true (and there's a chance it isn't - Irvin makes shit up sometimes) and if it is true then O'Brien needs to be fired immediately.

So Sweden has stopped testing for the most part. I assume a healthy chunk of other countries opted for this route as well. I'm not trying to rain on the "what the fuck are we doing, why aren't we testing, the fucking feds are clowns!" parade for that part of the mob, but as many others have suggested on this thread for weeks (not me), large scale testing may not make a whole lot of sense if this shit is really widespread already. I don't know. I don't really understand that part of the outcry once it was established that we, and others, did very little in the beginning of the outbreak.

Link to the Swedish article that your browser should be able to translate: https://www.dn.se/sthlm/farre-kommer-att-provtas-for-coronaviruset-i-stockholm/

I still think it's smart to do testing and contact tracing just to slow the spread. The spread is inevitable but IMHO that's part of "flattening the curve".

I've never felt there was any stopping it after the ChiComs did their little stunt (because they are autocratic dickheads) but we can do a lot to alleviate the burden on the health care system.

With S. Korea and China's numbers, and with the poor healthcare and the media blackouts in N. Korea, I wonder how they're fairing, especially with China being the only border they can cross.

Posted this earlier, but it's a shitshow:

    https://www.businessinsider.com/almost-200-north-korean-soldiers-died-coronavirus-2020-3

200 troops dead and 4000 in quarantine - that's the "rumor" and remember this is a country with rampant malnutrition. But the 'dear leader' says it's not there.

How many people are completely asymptomatic at any point in time?  Being in the airport, I swear at least 40% of people have the sniffles at the very fucking least.  I probably typically notice this more than other people (until recently) but just traveling in general between allergies, getting a cold, getting over a cold, smokers with chronic cough, former smokers with chronic cough, the guy clearing his throat constantly while getting over a hangover (guilty)...

I would agree that if you feel a little sick stay home please.  But symptoms as they're defined medically are present all over the fucking place.

That being said, I definitely don't think we should purge The Dog.  Just my view on that study being too hopeful.

Agreed (especially with flying with a hangover - it hurts).

I think if you have had contact with someone who might have it that day and have washed your hands, then low risk (if any) of transmission.

3 days later? Yeah, avoid eerybody until you know whether or not you are sick. IMHO it's a gray area.

I just think the panic/freaking out is getting a bit out of hand.

What the fuck have you done, The Dog? Greenspoint has been sheltering in place for over a month now. And then here you come with this kind of shit? Who the fuck do you think you are, sir?

No, seriously, it’s the same article. I read it from an apple newsfeed as distributed by the BBC. That quote is exactly what I read.

I have him on ignore so there's nothing for me to see here. ;)

  7. Here's also the quote from the CDC:

    "

    Q: When is someone infectious?

A: The onset and duration of viral shedding and period of infectiousness for COVID-19 are not yet known. It is possible that SARS-CoV-2 RNA may be detectable in the upper or lower respiratory tract for weeks after illness onset, similar to infection with MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. However, detection of viral RNA does not necessarily mean that infectious virus is present. Asymptomatic infection with SARS-CoV-2 has been reported, but it is not yet known what role asymptomatic infection plays in transmission. Similarly, the role of pre-symptomatic transmission (infection detection during the incubation period prior to illness onset) is unknown. Existing literature regarding SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses (e.g. MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV) suggest that the incubation period may range from 2–14 days."

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/faq.html

I did see a quote from the Harvard Med School saying that it could be transmitted while asymptomatic, but it was "inconclusive".

    https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/as-coronavirus-spreads-many-questions-and-some-answers-2020022719004

Keep in mind the Harvard blog is from last month, and we know more now than we did then.

It's been pretty widely reported to the contrary. Mind sharing a source?

    Certainly. Here's the quote:

"While media reports have widely circulated fears that asymptomatic people are silently spreading COVID-19 around communities and countries, there is little data to back that up. In fact, asymptomatic cases appear rare and potentially misclassified."

    https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/03/dont-panic-the-comprehensive-ars-technica-guide-to-the-coronavirus/

I'll work on finding the BBC link as well that CTJ referenced.
