What about the trash service have you not liked? There were issues with the recycling trucks because most were out of service due to mechanical problems. That has been resolved.

Trash service in this city is a joke. I moved to Houston in February and it took the city 4 weeks to deliver a trash can to my house and told me it would take 90 days to receive a recycling can. Mid-May and I still haven’t received one. I had to pay someone $150 the other day to haul all my cardboard to the dump because I’ve been accumulating boxes in my garage since February. You can call 311 all you want and it does absolutely nothing. We love living in Houston, but have just come to accept that city services here are a joke.

Guess I should have clarified that this isn’t a quality of life moving. The company is about to IPO and needs to fill out their exec team hence reaching out to me.

Im not going to move because of beaches but curious how bored I will be if it just ok money.

    InTouch?

The second best public university in California is UC-Los Angeles.

The second best public university in Texas (and it's a distant second) is Texas A&M.

    Let that fucking sink in.

One could make a strong argument at this point that UT Dallas has passed A&M as the second best public university in Texas. Their academic standards and student body profile surpasses A&M’s.

I think one one thing Uber/Lyft could do is input some sort of 911/distress button into their app interface.  If you are the customer/rider, it would be a button you could push/text interface that would be kept private between you and the company/authorities.   Have the same thing on the driver side.   Either party sending the distress call would be kept private from the other.  It could warrant a routine traffic stop by an officer that could prevent this sort of thing.

Granted, he wasn’t a real uber driver.   But if she was in the uber interface already, her phone still should’ve tracked through their system.   Once she saw the child locks didn’t work, if she hits this distress interface an auto call would go out.

Probably a a lot more complicated than I’m making it, but it makes sense

Don’t know about Lyft because I don’t use it, but Uber already has the exact thing you’re talking about.

OK finance and mortgage pros, debating whether or not to post this here or in the stupid wives thread.  But anyway- our house is in my name only.   All credit cards are in my name only.  The only thing her name is on is our bank and investment accounts and her car, because I bought it cash.  Why?  Because I have a credit rating of 800 and hers must hover around 1.  She is financially retarded.  After fighting the battle for a dozen or so years to try to get her to get her shit together, I just said fuck it and I pay ALL bills and manage all finances.  It has lead to a more harmonious relationship.  But she yesterday said “I want to be put on title to the house right away.”  I tried to explain that our 2.75% 15yr fixed mortgage is based on my credit and our low LTV.  The mortgage co is not going to automatically add a credit risk individual to title under the same terms and conditions.  She refused to accept that.  Um, that is financing 101.  Under no circumstances am I going to lose the sweetheart terms I have just to put her name on it.  But before I bother exploring this possibility, can I safely assume the lender (CashCall/IMPAC) is going to laugh in my face?  LTV is probably 35-40%.

Which one of you is cheating?

Anybody ever stayed here? I'm thinking about booking a room for the Houston Rodeo in a couple of weeks....looking for something really nice and this one caught my interest

Stayed at Zaza about 80 nights last year before I moved to Houston full time. Nice hotel and they take great care of their regulars. My fiancé loved coming to Houston and staying with me.

That being said, a brand new construction Intercontinental just opened in the Med Center and it’s really nice. Has a great bar with good bartenders. We stayed there throughout January from the time it opened until we moved into our new house at the beginning of the month. Totally different vibe, but we decided we preferred it over Zaza. For going to NRG, both are in a good location, but you will be Ubering to bars and restaurants.

Mastro's > Steak 44*.  *I'm in Scottsdale.  Both are very good, but you can't fuck with the original.  Warm Butter Cake FTW.

Strongly disagree. I think Mastro’s has lost a step and Steak 44/48 has gotten stronger. My last meal at a Mastro’s (City Hall) was totally forgettable. Have eaten at 44/48 over a dozen times since and I’m never disappointed.

Have you tried Ferguson’s in Houston?  They usually have professional slaws people

Yep. The dingbat sales lady they put us in contact with there apparently has low reading comprehension because she ignored averything my fiancé said she wanted when she gave her recommendations.

What are you looking for. I just bought appliances from a place in New York and had them shipped. It was a great experience and I saved about 2k. I’m remodeling so have time. Think it was 3 weeks from orderti delivery.

We’re looking at Thermador, Subzero, Jenn-air, etc for a fridge and LG or GE for the washer and dryer. What website did you use? We’re looking at that route due to the fact that no one in Houston returns our phone calls or emails.

I was there once during March Madness and it was a shit show.  It was like all the worst parts of Vegas on steroids.  TONS of douchey groups of dudes everywhere and really hard to go anywhere or do anything.  Sorry to rain on your parade, but you couldn't pay me to go to Vegas during March Madness again.

This. You summed it up perfectly. 15+ years ago, I went every year during March Madness. Somewhere over a decade ago it became a complete shit show. Nothing but roving packs of dudes and impossible to go to any sportsbook unless you stay up from the night before and stake a claim. As you said, you couldn’t pay me to do it again.

All that just went over my head.

So I shouldn't be so excited about the ne location? It's my side of town so I do want to check it out.

TBD. Haven’t tried the new location yet, but was far less excited about it when I learned they were using Oyler smokers. Maybe it will surprise me, but I don’t see how you turn out the same product on a commercial electrically powered smoker.

Another little miss just opened north phoenix that will be far less busy.

He’s using Oyler pits at the new location instead of the custom built offset smokers he uses at the University location.

Clear doesn't help you at Customs though, does it?  I have Global Entry and was told there was no need to fuss with Clear unless traveling to Orlando qualifies as "travel abroad" in my village.

No, but no reason you can’t have both.

This. If you combine the two you cut in front of precheck line as you’ve been “doubly vetted” by TSA and then Clear.

Saves ton of time and if you travel a lot is well worth it.

Clear is what TSA Pre was supposed to be before the airlines or TSA started randomly giving precheck to non- frequent fliers who hadn’t gone through interviews.

All of the above. Plus, you don’t have to fumble around with your ID.
