  1. Not saying Hans cheated using Stockfish enabled anal beads, but I saw a chat with Hikaru — who’s been stirring stuff up during all this — where he claimed that Magnus said if he knew the best engine move at just one or two critical points in a game, he’d never lose. The margins are so thin at that level.
  2. The article left out Hans’ dramatic rise in rating over the past few years as well as changing accent, which was fun too. While the game that Hans claimed the Magnus used that opening in the bizarre post match interview didn’t happen, I saw some claims that Magnus used it in some random blitz game at some point. Hans then claimed it was a transposition. The YouTube GMs seem a bit dubious of his claims. They also claim that over-the-board cheating is possible and does happen, although it’s much harder with higher security. If he wasn’t cheating, possibly the greatest moment of his professional life turned into a nightmare. It’s quite a ride either way.
  3. Ugh
  4. Let your nuts hang Card.
  5. He’s too busy with his sweet drum gig.
  6. Peanut or regular?
  7. I live in Georgia, but don’t watch much tv. YouTube ads have gotten pretty violent describing Walker’s past though. They ran with the lying stuff for a while and now have switched over to the violence. I assume it’s an anti-Walker campaign, but you never can tell anymore. They’re putting it out there, but I couldn’t tell you what’s on tv.
  8. Username?
  9. Texas - 2 Bama - 0 An errant snap on the first drive leads to the only score of a brutal slugfest. Texas blocks a gimme field goal as time expires. Surly melts down all game long. Quinn - 100 total yards but he begins his secondary career as an all-American punter.
  10. I finally listened to the speech. I hope this type of talk continues. Get it out in the open. The social pressure to pretend that there isn’t an active pro-Trump terrorist movement is madness. They fly their Trump/Bin Laden/ISIS flags in front of their houses and we’re supposed to be polite and invite the terrorists over for a cookout or something. I had my doubts about Biden, but he’s handled this big stuff very well — starting with the election denying in the run up to the election.
  11. Gun pedantry aside, how fast a speeding bullet goes is only a “very sensitive subject” to a Kryptonite-addled Superman. Orphaned alien lives matter.
  12. The motion fails to carry for lack of a second.
  13. Slorch’d: my wild speculation based on working in higher Ed. If you were to poll everyone in higher ed, you’d likely find that they tend to lean left — although it’s more conservative than you’d think. You do have professors willing to discuss politics and come from wildly different angles, which seems like a plus in education. I suspect that K-12 educators are pretty much representative of the population with one exception. As a whole, they are likely more concerned with the issues their students are facing and will face. You’re probably more likely to be concerned about LGBTQ issues if you know that students you personally care about are suffering. You’re more likely to be concerned about hungry students when they’re your hungry students. If that makes teachers “the left,” it seems more like an indictment of the right. The institutions themselves, particularly K-12, seem quite conservative to me.
  14. I ordered a club sandwich, but I'm not even a member. "I like my sandwiches with three pieces of bread." "Well, so do I!" "Then let's form a club." "OK, but we need some more stipulations. Instead of cutting the sandwich once, let's cut it again. Yes, four triangles, arranged in a circle, and in the middle we will dump chips." "How do you feel about frilly toothpicks?" "I'm for 'em!" "Well, this club is formed."
  15. Both of these. The demonization of certain majors isn’t a stand for pragmatism, it’s a symptom of a dying culture that’s openly antagonistic towards education. It’s also a massive red herring.
  16. My wife went to school on a Pell grant and had a bit under 20k remaining on her loans. Today’s a good day.
  17. Nice Penn State gear during the four-limbed arrest.

    LBGTQ

Not for anti-LGBTQ or prudish reasons, but if my wife ever asks me to go see that movie, I might have to start a marriage counseling thread. That looks horrifying for reasons not at all related to who’s groping whom.
  19. All I read from the article is that schools are required to display donated signs containing “In God We Trust.” It sounds to me like it’s time for a consortium to commission a series of patriotic great works of art — be they cartoon, MS Paint, Photoshop, or other mediums — to foster a love of country among our youth.
  20. Everyone should read Midnight’s Children because it’s an amazing book. It’s like a great symphony in novel form. It’s VERY dense for a westerner, but if you’re willing to go along for the ride, it’s worth it. Everyone should read The Satanic Verses because of Iran’s endorsement. It’s a very good book, but any book that causes a fatwa and bounty demands to be read.
  21. 1. Train an AI that will crank out thousands of different strips a day. 2. Write a script that will submit those strips. 3. Profit. 4. Pay me a small licensing fee for the business model.
  22. Long day flipping coins. It made sense before I edited it. Not worth the trouble to fix. More coins to fix
