Correct and the city is full of amazing sites and gems that are completely ignored by the masses... and that's where we spend our time.  As someone who has been to Rome over a dozen times to visit family, etc., I still haven't been to the Vatican Museums.  I'll live.  I still haven't been to Franklin, either.

Dude the Vatican museums are worth the hassle. Especially if you do a scavi tour and have a guide for the museum but otherwise I agree there's more to Rome than the usual stuff.

Can confirm from first-hand reports of a friend of mine that went to visit family.  Said it was really crowded.  I think Rome is stuck in that mode now, as well.  Used to be you could go in the spring or winter months and it was "relatively" chill.  Sorry for my family in Rome but we just don't go back there.  They may be celebrating that, though.

A friend of mine was visiting Rome with his family over the summer and said it was just a total crush. It was kind of driving his wife batty so he asked me what he should do and I told him to stop trying to visit every museum and tourist attraction and just try to hit some local neighborhood spots like Romans do and sent him to spend a day wandering around Trastevere. It really improved his experience.

There may be nothing more excruciating to do with my wife than to help her pick out paint colors. I would rather be stuck in all day traffic that's not moving and I have to piss really badly than have to pick another f'ing paint color for this f'ing bathroom. JUST FUCKING PICK ONE!

Anyone else think they make us help them so they can blame us later if it doesn't work out the way that's in their diseased female heads? I swear this whole process is just a trap she lays for me.

We recently renovated some bathrooms. I went through this same excruciating process (including her making the painters paint three different times) and finally just took the book, flipped it open to a good color, pointed and said "this is the color we want." My wife got mad at how little I cared and now everybody who visits talks about how amazing the bathroom color is and she visibly steams.

I actually really, really like her family. But they don't know how to just hang out and relax. They make an itinerary for everything. And micromanage stuff like kids birthday parties. You know "We going to cut the cake at 3:12"

My mother-in-law is a self-righteous, judgmental, opinionated, self-centered butthole, but makes up for that by also being profoundly stupid.

Today, my wife figured out one of my in-law strategies.

About once a month I take a half day on Friday. On those days I'll usually go have lunch with my wife, BIL & FIL.

    Driving back from lunch:

Her "I love that you spend time with my family. They really like you. And I like that you do that you make an effort to invite them."

Me "Oh yeah. I like your dad and BIL."

Her "My mom was wondering if we had plans this weekend."

ME "I mean we were with your family today. I kinda wanted to relax  and watch football and baseball this weekend."

Her "Oh okay. We can do stuff with the kids"

    about 20 minutes later

Her "Wait a sec. Do you do these lunches so that you can get the brownie points for spending time with my family. Without having to spend time with my mom & sister?"

I would do literally anything to avoid spending time with my mother-in-law. If I had this conversation with my wife and she figured it out while I was driving, I would Toonces the Driving Cat it because life would be over anyway.

Not American made, but neither is the Glock (outside of the 42)

I'm not sure that's true. The 42 is ONLY made in America due to importation issues but I think Glock makes a bunch of their firearms in Austria and America.

Tonight we went to an event at my son's high school. There were a lot of kids in the program with African sounding names.

Mrs CL: Wow. Where did all of those African kids come from?

Me: I have a pretty good guess....

    Mrs CL: Seriously, where?

    Baltimore

Here’s to hoping the Galactic Starcruiser Hotel flop was a learning experience. Disney said Tuesday it will spend $60 billion on its global parks and cruise line over the next 10 years, doubling its investments from the last decade, according to the New York Times.

Well that makes me want to sell my stock

  9. I told my wife and kids that, when I die, I want them to stuff my dead body in a trash can to let me stew for awhile and then drop me out of an airplane onto the crowd at a LSU-Auburn playing at Auburn so that I bust like a melon

Not 100% sure that is the case, but I will say that they haven't told her "no" enough.

Mrs CL has some unique aesthetic preferences and all they've really done is enable her and tell her how to do it more expensively.

"You want blue tile in every bathroom? Awesome. Here's some really expensive tile that's blue. We hope you like it!"

They are working to make sure it all looks good together, but they also haven't told her she's nuts, which she really needs to hear some times.

Ours couldn't measure anything so it was like being in a funhouse until we got it fixed. Table? Too big. Chairs? Too small. Let's put a 9 foot mirror here. But then you can't walk around the table.....

    just bullshit

Dude I threw my wife's interior decorator out of our house and told her to never come back. What a racket. They dig into your wife like a fucking tick and I bet your wife ended up doing all the work anyway.

In fact, when we did a bathroom renovation I called the contractor she used for our earlier work and asked him point blank if he had any issues with working directly with me and cutting her out, because there was no chance I would ever work with her again. He said no problem and we got it done at about a quarter of the cost.

When we started building this house, she hired an interior decorating firm and said one of the reasons she chose them was because they worked on an hourly basis and didn't get commissions on all the stuff they picked out for her. Then, 12 months later, now that the house is almost done, I find out that they recommended $120k worth of furniture, which Mrs CL has supposedly whittled down to "only" $50k, including the $10k breakfast table. I asked why she couldn't just ask them to go a notch below and go a little more consumer level and she replied, "I don't think that's their business model. They want you to buy really nice stuff."

No shit? Really? So they don't work just for an hourly rate?

As usual, there was an issue with my tone.

Agree on Dimitri’s. Another Broken Wgg always has a line and I don’t know anyone who’s been there. The Original Pancake House in Five Points and Trattoria ZaZa downtown are both good.

Another Broken Egg is fine but you're right about the line. The Original Pancake House got taken off my list about fifteen years ago when I watched a rat eat somebody's leftovers a few tables over.

I was just using your post as an opportunity to reply to the actual question about if there's anywhere to eat between Atlanta and Tuscaloosa. The answers are, in order from East to West, Oxford, Birmingham, Bessemer (Bright Star). I agree there is no good reason to stop in Anustown.
