My favorite breakfast in Birmingham is Dimitri’s in Homewood. It’s a BBQ joint by day and their lunch is great too, but they do a good breakfast and it’s always filling. If you’re downtown, Frothy Monkey. I’ll defer to others on the donut scene.
Ruby Sunshine is another favorite. Highly recommend.Dimitri's is good. So is Big Bad Breakfast. Another Broken Egg is okay. Hero Donuts, Shipley's Donuts, any Krispy Kreme place is good. Ruby Sunshine is good.

It's a neat enough spot, but it's definitely over there by itself. I miss the old Innisfree. And the Booth. And the old Houndstooth. And...
The problem with Innisfree is it's not next to anything, although plenty walkable to other spots, but they charge ungodly covers on bigger game weekends.
Old Houndstooth was great. The new one blows. It's like they turned Hoover into a bar.

Anyone staying in Birmingham and considering hitting up one of the Barons' games this weekend?
Barons stadium (Regions Field) is a great venue.

I was at the 09 Rose Bowl and got so drunk at the tailgate I got lost in the stadium for the entire first quarter. Missed Colt's injury, finally found my seats and my people and had zero idea what was going on.
A Texas fan sitting near me at that game got thrown out before the end of the first series. His girlfriend sat all by herself silently the entire rest of the game.

The coffee maker is loud because it grinds beans. I close the door not because the sound will wake the children but because my wife thinks the sound will wake the children, so I accommodate her low-stakes delusion.
It turns out that I was wrong about what areas have what youth soccer leagues. And, if you're wondering, what I told her yesterday at some point was "Middle Child's coach says XYZ." So my wrongness was relaying what the coach told me (with the preface that it's what I was told).

This morning, I'm standing in the kitchen, making coffee, with the door closed so the noise does not wake the kids. For background purposes, it is 6 AM and my wife and I have had exactly no conversations this morning. Additionally, we have had no conversations of any real significance the night before. Nor did we have any sort of disagreement.
My wife opens the door, walks into the kitchen, and says "I think you're wrong."

I only started watching this show a couple months ago, and finally watched the last episode of Season 3 last night. Holy shit, this is one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. I was a fan of Eastbound and Down, but the writing and cast for this is 10x better. Danny McBride is a comedic treasure.
Looking forward to Season 4, and in the meantime I'll binge watch Vice Principals.
Eastbound and Down is excellent and so is Righteous Gemstones, but they are so different. I feel like there's a lot more room for weird character development with Gemstones, whereas with Eastbound and Down there's an element of "are we actually getting away with saying this on television?" to it.

The fight between Batman and Superman was awesome. Otherwise Zach Snyder can be a little tough to deal with.

The Ken Onion sharpener is amazing on kitchen knives. Pocket knives with their different blade shapes and angles, as well as how far the handle protrudes, will take some practice. But my kitchen knives are literally razor sharp. I even put an edge on my cleaver (in case I ever need to use it for something for the first time ever).

My mother-in-law, who is a retarded person, saw Barbie and explained to my father-in-law, who is a dick and totally deserves to have to spend his life listening to his idiot wife, that the reason right wing Republicans were upset with the movie was because Barbie went to the gynecologist.

Are we really not going to discuss the fact that some dude's wife chicken fried steak twice in one weekend? obligatory Buffalo Bill gif here

Got it. I thought that place was closed but now it seems to have reopened. The famous one here in town is Sammy's and it is objectively horrific.

I was born and raised in Birmingham and have lived here most of my life. If there are decent strip clubs here I am not aware of them.

how's the Hoover/Galleria area?
any restaurants in that area I shouldn't miss?
Nope. Hoover sucks. Mostly chain restaurants. Silver Coin Indian is authentic and solid.

Yeah I walked around that entire "downtown" after dark and never felt threatened or even concerned.
Downtown is completely dead at night from that perspective. The real crime is outside of downtown and is Baltimoresque

The scene on the park bench made the movie for me. You have to remember she had never even seen an old person before.

I'm still chuckling about some of the jokes tucked into throwaway lines, like "She thinks I'm a fascist? I don't control the railways, or the flow of commerce!" and "It's like I've been in a dream where I was really invested in the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League."
"To be honest, when I found out patriarchy wasn't about horses, I lost interest."

Just rewatched last year's game.
Missed chip shot.
Blown safety call.
Missed sack on Young.
Missed fast mask on KR.
Holding on the long run.
Plus a bunch of other plays, any one of which could have meant the w.
Go beat their asses this year.
As a Bama fan I think the face mask was an unforgivable blown call. I assumed we lost when it happened.

If you just want food and don't care, Oxford (the stop immediately before Anniston if you're coming from Atlanta) has Chipotle, Five Guys, Buffalo Wild Wings, and all that shit.
