  1. I wouldn't go quite that far. Every year in the playoffs, the best defensive teams tend to be among the last teams playing. Boston and Golden State were 1/2 in defense last year. There's a reason that the Lakers are there, and it ain't their deadly 3 point shooting. BUT I'll take "good enough" defensively and record-breaking offense over great defense and limited offense. Gotta have both.
  2. I think Jokic is big and physical enough to prevent AD from going off offensively most night. As great as AD is defensively, I do not believe that the inverse is true. No one player can slow down Jokic. Transcendent offense beats great defense.
  3. On one hand, fuck San Antonio. What has it been, 9 whole years since you've won a championship? Please, sanctimoniously lecture us about tanking again when it's netted you two of the most NBA-ready generational talents ever. On the other hand, I don't want to watch that talent fester in fucking Detroit. Give Pop one last project.
  4. JJ Redick brought up an interesting point. There are only 5 guys left in the league who have been the best player on a championship team: LeBron, Steph, Kawhi, KD, and Giannis. Depending on your thoughts on the current LeBron/AD hierarchy, we're guaranteed to have a 6th in a few weeks between AD, Tatum, Jimmy, and Jokic.
  5. I knew that Joel would win for all of the reasons mentioned in the preseason (voter fatigue, boring narratives, the precedent of having someone win 3 in a row that hasn't been to a Finals...despite proving every single year that he's a fucking playoff monster), but I was disappointed that it wasn't closer. Old school guys like Mark Jackson were always going to vote Embiid ("A true 7 footer scoring 33 a game in [near] the paint!"), but I thought the newer school guys would give more weight to Jokic's historically efficient and prolific season. I don't dig too deep into VORP and win shares and offensive rating, but I do know that 64% shooting on a fucking 1 seed is pretty, pretty good. He almost finished 3rd for fuck's sake.
  6. Right. Because it's not like Chris Paul hurts his hamstring in the playoffs every fucking year.
  7. I get the feeling that Elon was never invited to these tech bro sex and drug parties, which explains a lot of things.
  8. Awesome. Score half of your average, have the best two players on the team combine for 24 points, scoring the 3rd and 5th most of all Philly starters...then blame everyone else.
  9. They're going to have to think about it. If Memphis was in the WCF, it wouldn't even be a discussion. But, between this and only getting to air his new shoe commercial for like a week in the postseason, he may not be worth the headache.
  10. I get to say this every year: hiring Doc Rivers with the expectation of winning playoff series is colossal franchise mismanagement.
  11. 11 field goal attempts in elimination games is pretty much Harden's signature. Klay sucked shit through a straw in his series, but at least he went down shooting. I'd rather an offensive star be 3-22 than 3-11 in a big game.
  12. Do you mean to tell me that rich, famous 23 year olds don't immediately change their behavior the first time they get caught?? But he seemed so sincere!
  13. Gotta pursue what you love. In Ja's case, being an abject moron on the 'gram.
  14. No one knows how to count the play-in games yet. The stats literally don't exist anywhere that the NBA counts them.
  15. *8 And, yes, Klay was out for those play-in games. Last night was the first time Steph, Klay, and Dray have ever been beat when they started every game in the series.
  16. Sober is no way to go through life.
  17. I'd say that that Arby's may as well close up shop. Who's going to eat there knowing somebody died in the freezer? But if you're eating at Arby's, you've already given up on life, so what does it matter.
  18. Yeah, I don't know what to make of that. He's always been a spotty playoff performer, but that was downright embarrassing. Started the season slow, but was pretty solid after New Year's. Led the league in made 3's on 41% shooting. Probably a combination of too many minutes on those reconstructed legs and being way up in his own head. Mark Jackson kept saying that he's the kind of player that doesn't care if he's 0-10, he thinks the next one is going in and can get hot at any time. But that's never really been true for him. The first quarter usually determines how his game is going to go offensively. He's wound tighter than most great shooters and doesn't have the same unwavering confidence.
  19. Meh, they a least showed some fight. Cut it to 4 after the initial onslaught. Had a couple shots to cut it to single digits in the 4th. They didn't roll over and die...just couldn't make shit.
  20. Hot take for someone that almost everyone has no lower than #2.
  21. No chance. They'll have to start next season with him and try to showcase him early in the season. Otherwise, ain't no one trading for that contract. Poole sucks, Wiggins--their 2nd best player the past two years--is clearly hobbled, Klay forgot how to shoot, Steph can't buy a 3. It's almost impressive it's only a 14 point lead.
  22. They'll probably lose the game, but they ain't going out like Memphis or Phoenix.
