  1. That's the mentally toughest win of the Shaka Smart era. Can't remember another game where we overcame so much, and were able to grit out a win. Overcoming so many big deficits (inc 10 pts twice), playing 5 against 8, every single lose ball ending up in Tech's possession, Sims foul trouble, Brown's moment, relying on Cunningham down the stretch, Tech balling out with extreme effort, and we still pulled out the win!

Zaxbys is great, their chicken strips with zaxs sauce is great and they make a decent bones less wing.

Dude, prepare to have your mind blown, but a boneless wing is the exact same fucking thing as a chicken strip.

The only reason why Tech was up by so much was because of all the offensive rebounds.

Well, that and the shitty officiating. And the sloppy turnovers by Texas ballhandlers. And a bunch of lucky deflections on blocks/rebounds that ended up in the hands of a wide open Tech shooter (there were like 5 of those).

If Texas can get a tighter handle on the ball it would help a ton on offense. Early in the game we kept trying to penetrate the paint, and then got surrounded when we got too deep. At that point we tried to force a bad shot, or tried to send the ball back out to the three point line and Tech was ready for it every single time. Unfortunately we don't have an offensive answer - something like a backdoor cut, or a screen to open a driving lane, or draw a doubleteam and lob it to the open man for an alley-oop.

Wow another one and done that was nowhere near ready for the NBA. What a surprise.

That rule needs to die in a fire. Either go straight from high school or go to college and be available for the draft at the age of 21 like baseball.

Fuck the NBA too by the way because it is the worst of all of the professional leagues.

The NBA, as a business entity, gets to set the rules for their league to protect their interests. One way to protect teams - and a way to try to ensure a better product - is by enforcing a year outside of high school. There a plenty of good reasons for this, including the players' physical, emotional, basketball skill, and life-skill development. Also, it allows a much better scouting report on future success by ensuring kids have a more even proving ground than the AAU shitshow or high school.

Are there occasional kids that are prepared for the rigors of the NBA direct from high school? Sure, but they are few and far between. There are so many more poor evaluations and bad draft picks that result from allowing high school kids into the NBA, as well as stunted development for kids not ready to go from living with momma to traveling a full NBA schedule. Allowing the NCAA to help develop the necessary skills, while attracting top talent to the league is a win-win for the NBA and the NCAA.

Are there still players that aren't NBA ready after 1 season in the NCAA? Sure. Do NBA teams still misfire their assessments? Yep. That doesn't mean "1 and done" is inherently bad.

As far as Mo Bamba goes... He was raw and not physically big enough for the NBA after 1 NCAA season. It may have been the same case after 2 or 3 years at UT. But, the NBA had enough data to know who and what he was as a player when he got drafted. And indications are that he is mentally capable. He's unfortunately in a situation where he needs to gain strength and skills, along with lots of playing time to develop. Between an unfortunate injury and bad after-effects of COVID, he was unable to get much playing time and Orlando has decided that rather than develop a young player, they're going to stick with Vucevic. All while mired at the bottom of the standings. It doesn't make any sense. It would be better to get Mo Bamba and Fultz lots of playing time, tank for more draft picks, and trade Vucevic.

  5. Wiltfong on Arch Manning

    Spoiler

Manning has started to dive into his college recruitment as well. He really likes Steve Sarkisian at Texas. Their relationship began when Sarkisian was in Tuscaloosa. New Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien has picked up where Sarkisian left off and Manning has talked with Nick Saban as well. Of course Ed Orgeron and new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz have been involved. Manning looks forward to seeing what the Tigers offense looks like this year under Peetz. Clemson is in the picture. Ole Miss and Tennessee have called. So have Boston College, Stanford and several others.

Manning said family ties to Oxford and Knoxville will not factor into his decision as he starts to think about the path he’ll take on his own journey.

“I think this summer will be a good chance to go visit some colleges,” he said. “I’m real excited about that because right now I’m just talking over the phone and just building some relationships. I think it would be good to go visit some campuses. We haven’t made any decisions but I’d like to go check out a lot of colleges. I have no idea where I could end up.

“I’m looking for a place that’s like a family with good surroundings, great coaches and good players and really puts you in the opportunity to win. I think anywhere right now, I’m not singling out anywhere.”

    Spoiler

Two Texas lawmakers on Tuesday filed legislation backed by the gaming empire Las Vegas Sands that would legalize casino gambling in Texas.

The legislation was filed by Rep. John Kuempel, R-Seguin, in the House and Sen. Carol Alvarado, D-Houston, in the Senate. Rep. Toni Rose, D-Dallas, was later added as a joint author on the House proposal.

The proposals would create special casino licenses for four "destination resorts" in the state's four largest metropolitan areas: Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin. At the same time, it would establish a Texas Gaming Commission to regulate the casinos, tax table games and slot machines and separately legalize sports betting.

It would require amending the state constitution, which seems unlikely to pass at this point, but perhaps the political climate for gambling is more favorable than I imagine.

How many days until Prohm gets the axe?

Depends on how much publicity they want. If they want to hide it, it'll get announced on Selection Sunday around 5pm Central.

If they want to milk it for press, they'll try to get the press release out mid next week, when there's a dearth of new basketball information, as everybody just waits for the tourney to start.

Go Clones. I know it's unlikely but ISU gave them a game in the regular season and ISU seems to have a hardon for the tournament. Also OU is reeling right now and the disgrace of being ISU's sole conference win this season, in the tournament no less, would be delicious.

Seeding-wise it probably helps the conference as a whole to have OU win this game, but I still prefer them to lose at all junctures.

Always root for OU to lose.
