I think this is a fairly incredible moment in the history of our country and the world as a whole. A 78 year old Italian woman, who stands around 5'5", has done what no man has ever done to Dotard and stared him down, called his bluff and got him to fold.

The majority of Republicans have let this traitorous asshole run amok for two years and it has come down to this woman in charge of The People's House to stop him and holy hell has she done that.

If you are still supporting Trump right now while watching this you are seriously deranged mentally and need to get some professional help ASAP.

Pretty much this. The SOTU thing is an underrated brilliant play. Not only did it cause Trump to make himself look like a petty bitch by canceling her delegation's trip on the tarmac (after Rs took a similar trip like a week before), but you know damn well that Trump's desire to have the spotlight and the cameras on him for that speech factored into him caving and opening the government.

I'll admit, as a liberal, I was hoping for a change of leadership in the Democratic Party. I wanted new blood, younger blood, to lay the groundwork that will push the progressive agenda forward. I was mistaken. The only person on Earth that might have a larger ownership stake of Donald Trump as of this morning is Vladimir Putin. As long as Trump is in office, we need Pelosi to do what no one else has been able to effectively do - serve as a legitimate check. She is damn good at her job.

    That article is leftist propaganda.

Legal deductions aren’t “clever and complicated tactics”. Nor are they cheating.

Also, it is patently false pass through business owners who run a business can simply take distributions in lieu of wages. In fact under the new QBI rules there can be situations where it is more tax efficient to pay an owner W2 wages, especially above the SS limit, to maximize the QBI deduction.

Bloomberg is leftist propaganda in Trumpkinland lol

  3. And this is largely the case because of readily available, cheap student loans. It caused a bubble. Course, doesn't help when people get useless degrees for their 100 or 200k in loans.
Myth. Tuition increases at public universities have generally been in line with reductions in state funding. I'm on mobile so I don't have it in front of me but I remember reading an interesting piece that really laid out the numbers. I'll link it later.

The main culpability student loans have are that politicians that want to cut ed can fall back on them as a funding source. They've filled the gaps but they haven't driven up the price. Not at pubic schools anyway.

  4. Legitimate question:  who believes law enforcement training and continuing education policies are sufficient to prevent this kind of reaction in the heat of the moment?  (Confession:  I don't know the answer.  It seems ridiculous, but it could be an outlier, too.)

I don't. You don't think Big City PD isn't already trying that? At this point I believe your run of the mill patrol/beat cop shouldn't carry a gun. They have proven without a shadow of a doubt that they can't be trusted with them.

A taser or stun gun gets the job done in 95+ percent of situations. Thousands more civilians killed over the past five to ten years would be alive. Firearm units should be special units of experienced officers that have demonstrated good judgement and sound mental capacity that are available to call for backup. If that means there are a few - and it would be very few - more situations where cops are in danger or can't immediately pursue an armed suspect (Gasp! Might have to de-escalate!), then so be it. As it stands, it's civilians putting their lives on the line in interactions with cops. I don't wish anyone harm, but if it's a cop or a civilian, I'm putting that burden on the cop. It's why they're paid so well compared to other civil servants.

I realize that isn't a mainstream opinion, let alone a popular one, so neg away.

  5. The Rams DL and running game gives them a legit (often very good) chance to win every game. This one is no different. Remember, NE being a sight favorite isn't supposed to be predictive. It's intended to generate action.

  6. Todd Williams, a former Goldman Sachs partner who now serves as education adviser to Dallas' mayor, has been the main voice advising lawmakers to back what he calls "outcomes-based funding." Appointed by Abbott to the school finance panel, he quickly steered the bipartisan team of lawmakers, educators and business leaders toward proposals that would give school districts "incentives" to improve students' academic results.
Yeah, so how does this address the fact that there are a shit-ton of kids in Texas, both rural, urban, and suburban, who are poor as hell, and who have academic problems as a result of their parents not being able to help.   Not being able to help because of things like parents not having a better education, or single-parent households, or non-English-speaking parents, or parents working multiple jobs and too tired to help, etc.?
There are schools and areas that are going to have these problems, and it’s the elephant in the room.   No Child Left Behind wanted to move the problem around without addressing it.  This completely ignores part of that problem.
I’m greatly in favor of things like them paying teachers more to tackle those schools and areas.   When my wife started teaching, she didn’t have much choice on where to go as a new teacher, and she ended up in one of the lowest-performing schools in the district, along with a lot of other new teachers. She found out the reason why those schools have such high teacher turnover and why new teachers keep being assigned there, is that it was the same pay as at a higher-performing school, and as soon as teachers could, they would transfer out to better schools for the same pay, but much less stress.  You have to make it worth their while, because it is a lot harder to raise the scores at those schools.  Those kids, and their parents, have a tough time as it is.
And the whole water park fiasco.  Any district who is taking lots of Robin Hood money (or whatever it’s called now) should have to return X amount when they spend X amount on ridiculous facilities.  Buy a fancy $50 million stadium with local fund raising because you got $50 million from Austin, etc. to cover your academic infrastructure?  Return $50 million back to the state.  Etc.

It's a GOP Trumpkin governor advocating for an eduction proposal put forth by a former Wall Street exec. Fucking over poor kids, first generation immigrant kids, rural kids etc. isn't a bug, it's a feature. The former two won't vote as adults, and while the latter is iffy, it's a guaranteed R vote. It keeps the status quo in place - good for the wealthiest (Sachs partners), good for the GOP (Greg).

  7. Rising looked good in the spring game, in my opinion. I wish he would have stayed but he definitely wouldn't have been a productive backup for us if his heart and mind weren't here with the program.
My only issue with his decision is that going to Utah who has a returning junior starter who runs more per game than Ehlinger makes zero sense.

I don't watch Utah much, but that backup they were playing in the P12 championship looked like abject trash. Now, Rising knows better than anyone what a difference a year can make, but with Huntley going into his SR year he just feel he can win the job once it's vacated in 2020 if that backup (name escapes me) is his primary competition.

  8. Weird, I appear to be on Texags.

Enjoy winning ten games, winning an instant classic in Dallas, and the Sugar Bowl over a really good Georgia team. No need for the "best four loss team EVAR" shit.

  9. LT will certainly have some athletes and is definitely a step up from the New Mexico States, UTEPs, SJSUs, etc. of the world. It should be a good primer for LSU. I could even see it being close for a half as Texas works out some kinks. If Texas comes prepared they'll eventually roll though. If not... I don't know about a loss, but a lot of frustration, anxiety, and doom and gloom headed into LSU. Based on how much Herman fucks around with inferior teams, I almost expect to be tight.

  10. How much eligibility will Rising have left after sitting out a season at Utah?
(Aware he redshirted 2018, just not sure how long a player can go to college and still play football...... my guess is he still has 4yrs eligibility remaining, but not sure.....)
Three. He's transferring as a RS FR and will sit out 2019. He will be eligible in 2020 as a RS SO.

Can someone explain the difference between a PWO and a regular walk-on? My buddy that played for Texas State used to say there was pretty much no difference at all, PWO's still had to do all the same shit and go through the try-out process.

Interesting. My understanding is it's two things: 1.) Don't have to try out. You have a roster spot. 2.) You start at or near the top of the list of guys that could find themselves with a scholarship should one come available.

Nebraska and Michigan State didn't offer.

U right. I misread the 247 page on my phone. Still, my sentiment remains the same. At a time where we could really use a guy we know will be here for four years and isn't gonna run off because he isn't playing immediately (or ever), getting one with decent credentials without a scholly is a bigtime W.

  13. Jalen Hurts at Bama is a poor fit for the Air Raid.
Jalen Hurts at ou will suck.
Having said that, his running ability will allow him opportunities to throw to WIDE OPEN receivers.  This is what Riley does. He uses the threat of the running QB to get receivers open.  Hell, it's what Tom Herman does, but in a different way.
I remember when people said VY couldn't throw and wasn't accurate... but he was throwing to guys who were wide open (and he was actually fairly accurate on deep shots).  You're going to see ou looking like they're running option (or running option and coming back later with the same look) and dropping deep bombs.
He's not Kyler Murray or Baker in terms of accuracy, but he is as accurate as Boykin was at TCU, or Reggie McNeal at A&M... he'll be accurate and practiced enough to run the offense.... because Riley is a fucking offensive genius (that sucks).

This. Riley will figure out to make it work, and work quite well.

  14. As a former HS fullback, can verify that short, stout defensive tackles were nightmares, unless running into fire hydrants headfirst is your thing. Give me the tall dudes you could cut any day over that shit.
And a fire hydrant with long arms is just ridiculous. Sometimes trying to block lanky DEs in the open field felt like tangling with an octopus. Poona seems to combine the fire hydrant with the squid.

This is spot on. I am 6'2", played center in HS, and was "205" pounds on the roster, which meant 190-195. Obviously at that size I relied on technique. I could hold my own against guys 75-100lbs heavier than me by getting under them, but we played a couple of NTs that were something like 5'10" and about 230. They just whipped me. You can't get under them and you can't move them. It was demoralizing. Add Poona's quickness and arm length? Goddamn nightmare.

I've airways chucked when peoole dismiss him or any other DT based on height. Clearly they have never attempted to block anyone.

  15. I don’t know why, but LSU has always been the one team in the SEC that I’ve always liked. I find myself rooting for them in just about all their games. But on 9/7/19, all that goes out the window.
Probably because they buck the SEC OOC trend and have been playing anyone, anywhere for a while. And in my experience they are the SEC fanbase that does the least secsecsec dipshit crowing. And they party hard. I'd love to have the game on a regular basis tbh

The main thing I know about this game is that 1) we're gonna have some LSU buddies join us, so 2) our tailgate is gonna be fucking epic.  I may fast for a week beforehand to prepare my body for the onslaught of badness that I will ingest.

Same, we've got friends coming in. Been waiting for this series for a long time. The alcohol will flow like a river and it will be a damn good time regardless. I am thinking we will get Game Day as well. This could be an all time atmosphere at DKR.

Tramonda Moore would actually be a fairly significant loss if he's gone.

Edit-hadn't realized Moore was kicked off the team. Still fairly significant.

Fuck. I want every single of their shitty DBs to come back for more.
