    this year>>>>>>>last year

And yes we should still be improving during the year.

These are both true. TCU exposed a lot of room for improvement in terms of communication and handing off assignments when picking up blitzes and stunts. That is the kind of thing that can and will get better with reps. They are also probably the best front we will see all year, only OU can match them athletically and they are obviously very well coached. Run blocking is probably going to continue to be an issue. This group just does not get push consistently and because of that really struggles with executing combo blocks in the second level. That kind of raw physicality issue is not the short of thing that improves over the course of a season. The only thing that might help is benching Vahe because he really is a liability when zone blocking, but I do not think they will bench a four year starter at this point.

  2. FWIW, currently Army has 184 yards rushing against OU.  I think our o-line is better than theirs and might be able to keep the chains moving against the Sooners with running the ball.  They are showing dominance in the second half of the last two games allowing the defense to rest and leading time killing drives with a lead.  Good mojo.
I wouldn't read too much into Army's triple option run totals against OU either way. It's largely scheme, which is completely different from Texas, and you could argue that holding an option offense below 200 is an achievement given that they run the ball 50 plus times a game.

This line has just not been that good at run blocking. Marginally better than last year but were still sub 4 ypc yesterday. Watson and Ingram have been good at making sonething from nothing and Sam has had a couple nice runs but the ground game leaves a lot to be desired with this group. Rewatching TCU right now and Cosmi in particular had a pretty tough time run blocking in the first half. Just not a lot of movement and getting to the second level in general from this group. Still, better than getting blown off the ball.

I would echo the sentiment that they look really good in pass pro. Sam holds the ball too long back there sometimes but the fact that he even has that long is incredible given where this group was a year ago. Vahe is slow and has let some guys go up the middle when he has no help or has to pick up a blitz/stunt as a result, but otherwise it has been solid all year.

Elijah is playing better than Shack ever has and should remain the starter, especially if this group can continue to build on its progress and pave the way for a big day on the ground next week.

  3. After a good showing for SC I expected a better crowd yesterday. Clearly the day game and weather reports during the week kept folks away. Lots of empty seats.

Crowd got pretty loud when it had something to cheer for. TCU definitely took the air out of the place at the end of the first half and into the third quarter, took a while to wake up after that.

  4. He's been an underrated player here for a couple of years so it is nice to see him get some of the spotlight after stringing together some big games. If he continues to play well he may be able to catch on in the NFL as a 3-4 end or a 4-3 1-tech/NT.

  5. League is turning out how a number of folks, myself included, saw it: A very competitive league with several good teams, as many as 8 legit too 40 squads, that will make for an exciting year with everyone playing one another. But there isn't really an elite team that screams playoff team at you.

I think OU is catching a little too much flak for the Army game and it would be nice to have the additional NC State data point on WVU, so the jury is out on those two, but it may end up that no one is good enough to get through the league with only one loss.

  6. Ventured over to some KSU boards. They are worried about their lines after they were manhandled  against WVU. Most don't see themselves making a bowl game.  Many are ready to get Snyder canned. This may finally be the year Texas wins in Manhattan.
I really hope that doesn't get ugly. K State improved a lot over the course of the year last year ended the season as a very hot 8-5, if I recall. It isn't like he can't coach anymore. Thi year's team looks as bad as I remember them looking in a while but if anyone deserves to go out on their own terms it is Bill Snyder.

  7. K State clearly sucks but they present a similar matchup issue as Maryland as far as their run heavy offensive scheme. I was skeptical that the defense would play well yesterday against an athletic QB in Robinson but they really played well against the run, so maybe some progress is finally being made after a year andva half. Honestly Texas should cruise but it is so hard to be confident going to Manhattan.

  8. I think Texas at 18 is a bit premature. Looked good yesterday for sure but still got punked by a Maryland team that is average at best, not to mention in total disarray. Folks trying to write that one off already, just like last year, but it is a bad, bad loss and it is the only game played outside of Austin this year.

KSU is clearly not very good but has been a boogeyman for this program for a while. Show me competent play can travel on the road with a comfortable win next week and then I think a top 20 ranking may be in order. I think the best this team deserves is a 23-25 spot, and I'd be okay with still being unranked.

Tech should not be ranked, got absolutely dismantled by Ole Miss. I think OU is getting over penalized for the Army game. They would smoke LSU.

  9. Team played well. The guys on the field obviously came to play, and when it mattered most TCU could not find the extra gear needed to match their effort. Tip of the cap to those young men for sure. Earned the most impressive Texas W in quite a while in spite of some bonehead moves from the coaching staff and clearly biased officiating. Happy to eat crow.

  10. Didn't watch last night but about five minutes in right now. Cruz is such a little twat. All he does is whine and cry about Beto this Beto that. Half of it exaggerated or false. Little aggy bitch. Just trying to drum up fear among gullible olds and low info voters, reality be damned.

So, does the way this game is going mean that USC sucks?

The way last Saturday went means USC sucks.

Do I think Temple, who has lost to 1AA Villanova, in football, and Buffalo, is better than Texas and would beat them head to head? No. Could one make a legit argument based on multiple common opponents? Yes. That is sad.

  13. Buy Alhambra tickets online and pick an admission time, then pick up your tickets the day before at the office in town.
This. We did the print at home option for ours, walked right up and skipped the line.

Granada is the shit. Definitely worth a couple days on an Andalusia trip.

  14. If the Dallas City Council tells Del Conte they won't allow him to move the 2022 and 2023 games away from the Cotton Bowl to a home-and-home, coming back in 2024 (assuming he wants to), bet money the Cotton Bowl will never host another UT/OU game after 2025.
With the GOR expiring in 2023, showcasing both UT and OU football at that time will mean incredible money to both schools, and probably to a number of other schools. 11am kickoff at the Cotton Bowl isn't showcasing UT or OU football. It is the same old same old. Celebrating the history of the rivalry needs to happen somehow.

  15. Actually the Dallas politicians are the ones putting the band aids on this thing after everything went to JerryWorld. They've put a decent amount of money into that stadium for essentially one big game, 1 lower tier game, 1 no one gives a shit about game, and an afterthought late December bowl game. And before someone hits back about JerryWorld, the last thing in this world I would've wanted is a shrine to how college football used to be torn down for that shitfest cavern in Arlington going in at Fair Park. Texas OU should never set foot in a stadium like JerryWorld unless it's a rematch in the ridiculous Big 12 CCG.
There should be a clause in the B12 rules that says CCG is at the cotton bowl if it's Texas-OU. No fair, no problem.

  16. What is the ideal time to get there for the game? Best places to park?
It's 1:33pm and OU still sucks
Don't drive, uber/lyft or dart. Way easier and cheaper. Time depends on your taste. Some get there real early. We usually get there around 930 for an 11am kick, pound some beers before, then do the fair afterwards.

  17. 11am is fine. Yeah 230 is slightly preferable just bc of Friday night but if you don't enjoy the hell out of it either way you're a sad sack of shit. All it really does is move your fair going from before to after the game.

  18. Dumb article.
(Full disclosure:  I'm not a huge proponent of renewable energies on a fiscal basis at current costs, but the article doesn't even mention energy storage, which is an alternative to existing plants to cover those apparent surprise times when "the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow".)
The costs associated with existing energy infrastructure go far beyond the fiscal realm. Not only that, but the fiscal and non fiscal (and non-fiscal) opportunity cost of not being proactive in terms of reform will manifest itself in an ugly way. It will just be decades down the road.
