  7. "Pace of Play" rules need major overhaul Dottie Pepper explains pace of play complaint: 'Been gnawing at me' ESPN News Services Jan 28, 2025, 10:45 AM ET Dottie Pepper said the slow pace of play in golf has "been gnawing at me for a while," and added that she hopes her on-air complaint last weekend serves as a springboard for serious change. Pace of play once again became a hot topic last Saturday during the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, where Pepper was CBS Sports' on-course analyst walking with the final group. Pepper told The Associated Press that she was notified via text message by CBS Sports colleague Frank Nobilo that the final group made the turn in nearly three hours, prompting her message that has since gone viral. "You know, Frank," Pepper said during the broadcast. "I think we're starting to need a new word to talk about this pace-of-play issue, and it's 'respect' -- for your fellow competitors, for the fans, for broadcasts, for all of it. It's just got to get better." Dottie Pepper says golf "has a little bigger profile than it did before," and stressed that pace of play needs to quicken, adding"let's not mess it up." Matthew Maxey/Icon Sportswire Pepper clarified her remarks Sunday during an interview with the AP, saying that she was not directing her comments specifically at the final group. "It's been gnawing at me and a lot of people for a while," Pepper said. "It was not a comment targeted at the final group of a PGA Tour event that CBS was carrying. It was at the general state of the game, down to club play -- private or municipal -- junior golf, amateur golf, collegiate golf. "It's taking away from the opportunity we have for this game. It's on fire post-COVID, and it's our darn fault if we don't do better." Saturday's final group included tournament winner Harris English, Aldrich Potgieter and Andrew Novak, who gave the viewing public a good look at his no-nonsense pace. But the final round at Torrey Pines took 5 hours, 29 minutes, which was a 10-minute improvement from the previous week at the American Express. The USGA has a recommendation -- not a rule -- on how long it should take to play a shot: 40 seconds, with an extra 10 seconds if a player is first to hit that shot. It's a policy on the PGA Tour, which has plans for a working group of players to study pace of play. The text from Nobilo apparently struck a chord with Pepper, whose role in golf goes beyond her 17 LPGA victories and two majors, her Solheim Cup legacy and her two decades in broadcasting. She also spent three years on the PGA of America board of directors. "I love the game too much," she said. "Let's take advantage of the heat we have. People are more engaged than they've been in a long time. We have TGL. We have influencers. Golf has a little bigger profile than it did before. Let's not mess it up."

  9. By Xander_ Jan 23, 2025 The Wall Street Journal recently released a study identifying the U.S.’ most valuable college football programs. The Texas Longhorns were ranked No. 2 nationally, behind only No. 1 Ohio State, which was crowed national champions Monday night after beating Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff finals. Both programs nearly top $2 billion in enterprise value, which, according to researchers, is found by subtracting adjusted cash flow from a program’s annual adjusted revenue (in Texas’ case, an enterprise value of $1.87 billion.) https://www.burntorangenation.com/2025/1/23/24350328/longhorns-daily-news-wsj-study-ranks-texas-second-most-valuable-college-football-program-sec-cfp

  12. FCB... Damn another injury for Vasek 😬 Report: Texas edge Colton Vasek to undergo shoulder surgery Jan 26, 2025 Texas Longhorns rising redshirt sophomore edge Colton Vasek is set to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, according to a Sunday report from Fuck Chip Brown of Horns247. It’s not a longterm physical setback for the 6’5, 260-pounder, who played with a brace on his shoulder in 2024, but it is another one for Vasek following a back injury that kept him from seeing the field as a true freshman in 2023. Vasek arrived on the Forty Acres from Austin Westlake as a member of the 2023 recruiting class after a high-profile flip from Oklahoma to Texas, an important head-to-head win for the Longhorns over their Red River rival. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Vasek was a top-100 prospect nationally and the No. 16 edge and brought a championship pedigree to the Texas program by winning back-to-back state titles while 71 tackles with 53 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 19 pressures, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble as a senior. The back injury slowed down Vasek’s development, but he did emerge as a fringe rotation player as a redshirt freshman, playing 81 snaps in 10 games on special teams on the kickoff return, punt return, and punt coverage units, as well as one snap on the field-goal block team, and 65 snaps in seven games on defense, primarily in blowouts, although Vasek did play six snaps in the Cotton Bowl loss to Ohio State. On defense, Vasek recorded seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, six total pressures, and two defensive stops, flashing the potential that made him such a coveted recruit. With Barryn Sorrell exhausting his eligibility as the starting Jack end for Texas and Justice Finkley transferring to Kansas, Vasek projects as the primary backup for his high school teammate, rising senior Ethan Burke. Early enrollee Lance Jackson is also expected to compete for playing time at the position.
