  1. Hmm 🤔 Alabama replacing longtime football radio announcer Eli Gold AP Feb 21, 2024 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama is replacing longtime football radio announcer Eli Gold. The school announced Wednesday that Chris Stewart will replace Gold, 70, starting with the spring football game. Gold has been the voice of Alabama football for 35 years, calling seven national championship games, 11 Southeastern Conference championships and 35 bowl games. "Eli has been an invaluable member of our broadcast team," said Jim Carabin, vice president and general manager of the Crimson Tide Sports Network. "We are grateful for his years of service and wish him all the best in this next chapter. CTSN is fortunate to have someone as part of our existing broadcast team in Chris to step up and seamlessly transition into this role." Stewart has been with the network in a variety of positions since 1998. He had filled in for Gold during the 2022 season, when the longtime broadcaster was diagnosed with cancer. Gold resumed partial duties last season, calling home games and the Auburn game. Gold told AL.com that he does not plan to retire. "Well, the university has chosen not to bring me back," Gold said. "This is not, with a capital N-O-T, not at all health-related. I am very healthy. Everything is wonderful. I am healthy as a horse." ----------------------------------------------- Previous article about Gold's recovery... https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38347923/comeback-alabama-crimson-tide-college-football-announcer-eli-gold "There is a tradition in any program, and Eli's been a part of that tradition for a long, long, time," says Bama coach Nick Saban, who does his weekly radio show alongside Gold every autumn Thursday night. "When people listen, they expect to hear Eli Gold."

  5. Texas hires new Assistant Director of Player Personnel for offense Former Baylor football player Jackson Gleeson is one of the promised additions to Steve Sarkisian’s support staff. By Wescott Eberts Feb 20, 2024 On National Signing Day earlier in February, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian revealed that he planned on making several new hires to his support staff following the departure of Director of Player Personnel Billy Glasscock to the Ole Miss Rebels and several promotions from the current staff. On Tuesday, Jackson Gleeson revealed on social media that he’s the new Assistant Director of Player Personnel on offense, a new position created in addition to the General Manager role that Brandon Harris now holds. A Mansfield product in the 2018 recruiting class, Gleeson was a consensus three-star wide receiver, signing with Baylor over offers from Boise State, Houston, Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas, Tulsa, and UTSA. Gleeson appeared in eight games for the Bears in 2019 as a redshirt freshman, eventually graduating in 2021. After serving as a front office intern for the Frisco RoughRiders for a year, Gleeson enrolled in the Sport Management Master’s program at Texas last fall, months after he started as a Player Personnel assistant with the football program in January.
  6. Hope he's healthy and strong at the NFL Combine... Hook'em JWhitt !!! 🤘

  8. Contract and salary details for two of Michigan's new coordinators and offensive line coach New head coach Sherrone Moore reportedly has his first million-dollar coordinator. DOUG SAMUELS 9 HOURS AGO Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan recently had at least three assistants earning at least $1 million in Sherrone Moore ($1.2 million), Jesse Minter ($1.2 million) and head strength coach / associate head coach Ben Herbert ($1 million). Now Sherrone Moore reportedly has his first $1 million assistant. Quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell's promotion to the offensive coordinator role marks Moore's first million-dollar assistant during his young tenure leading the Michigan program according to salary and contract figures shared MLive. Campbell, who has risen quickly from his initial role as an analyst on staff back in 2022, has a three-year deal worth $3.05 million total. After making $350k last season as the Wolverines quarterbacks coach, Campbell will now average about $1 million per year. He's set to make $950k this fall, $1 million in 2025 and $1.1 million in 2026. The deal aims to keep Campbell in Ann Arbor through January of 2027. If he were to leave during his first season, his buyout calls for $950k, $500k for leaving during year two and $275k if he left during the third year of the deal. However, if Campbell left for a Division I head coaching job or for an NFL job in years two or three he would no owe any buyout, and also would not owe an buyout if he left following the final game of the 2026 season, the report adds. Interestingly, his contract also includes a clause that says he would not owe a buyout out if Sherrone Moore were to reassign the primary play calling duties. MLive adds that Grant Newsome, who was promoted from tight ends coach to offensive line coach, will make $600k as part of a two year deal that runs through January 2026. Also, special teams analyst turned special teams coordinator JB Brown also has a two year deal that will pay him $350k per year. Details have yet to be shared on the more recent hires on the defensive side of the ball in Wink Martindale, Brian Jean-Mary and LaMar Morgan.
  9. Reported that Aranda just lost 2 assistants to bama: 1) Alabama expected to hire former Baylor assistant coach Chris Kapilovic as new offensive line coach. Kapilovic was previously hired as Baylor’s offensive line coach on Dec. 12 after spending four seasons at Michigan State. 2) Alabama expected to hire Christian Robinson as OLBs coach after William Inge takes Tennessee job
  10. DeBoer loses another Washington/Bama coach... Monday evening, On3's Austin Price reported that Alabama's new linebackers coach William Inge will be headed to SEC rival Tennessee to take the place of former Volunteers linebackers coach Brian Jean Mary. "BREAKING: Tennessee has replaced Brian Jean Mary with former Washington Co-Defensive Coordinator William Inge," Price writes. Since former Washington head football coach Kalen DeBoer has arrived in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he's brought along many other Huskies staff members to help him with the Crimson Tide. Like many of the new Tide assistants, on Feb. 5, DeBoer also brought Inge along from Washington, as he was the Huskies' defensive assistant. Inge was hired by Washington as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach on Dec. 18, 2021. He reunited with Husky head coach Kalen DeBoer, having served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Fresno State the previous two years. Inge helped pull the strings to one of the most exciting teams to watch on both sides of the field this past season and the Huskies' run to the College Football National Championship is indicative of that. One other notable form of assistant coaching news that occurred on Monday was that Kane Wommack signed his deal to officially become Alabama's next defensive coordinator. In addition, Wommack is also designated as the inside linebackers coach, but Alabama will continue to look for a pure linebackers coach. As the Tide now must reopen its search party to replace Inge, assuming pen goes to paper, Alabama will see him opposite its sideline on Oct. 19 in Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, Tenn. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/the-alabama-crimson-tide-s-chaotic-offseason-assistant-coaches-search-was-all-but-finalized-earlier-on-monday-but-now-another-spot-needs-to-be-filled/ar-BB1ixL2f
  11. Alabama completes staff with addition of Group of Five coordinator DOUG SAMUELS 8 HOURS AGO After reports shared the addition of Chris Kapilovic as offensive line coach earlier this morning, Kalen DeBoer and the Tide are set to complete their staff with the addition of a Group of Five coordinator. Multiple reports today share that the Tide are set to hire Georgia Southern offensive coordinator Bryan Ellis as their tight ends coach. The Eagles ranked among the top 30 nationally in completion percentage and passing offense while the receivers set a number of school records this past season. In 2022, Ellis helped to lead an aerial attack that broke about every speakable passing record for the Georgia Southern program. Ellis took over as offensive coordinator in Statesboro in 2022 after previously setting a number of records at Western Kentucky in three seasons there with the co-coordinator and offensive coordinator title while working with the quarterbacks and then inside receivers. At WKU, the offense ranked second in scoring at over 44 points per game in 2021, and also ranked second nationally in total offense and first in passing yards per game. Prior to his time with WKU, Ellis worked with the USC quarterbacks in 2018 after a season as an offensive assistant for the program. He steps into the tight ends role vacated by Nick Sheridan, who moved to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach following the departure of Ryan Grubb, who left for the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator opportunity. The Tide's second reported hire of the day completes Kalen DeBoer's inaugural staff in Tuscaloosa. Take a look at the full staff via Alabama Staff Tracker
  12. Kalen DeBoer fills Alabama offensive line vacancy with FBS veteran Instead of joining the Baylor staff, Chris Kaplovic will now partake in the new era of Alabama football. ZACH BARNETT 34 MINUTES AGO Technically speaking, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has not made an outside hire yet. More than a month into the job, DeBoer has only formally announced the retention and promotion of Freddie Roach (associate head coach/defensive line coach) and Robert Gillespie (assistant head coach/running backs coach). In reality, DeBoer has filled out his first staff, and now made his first replacement hire. Baylor offensive line coach Chris Kaplovic will serve as the Crimson Tide's offensive line coach, according to a report from ESPN on Monday. Kaplovic replaces Scott Huff, who joined DeBoer from Washington and then joined offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb in returning to Seattle to take equivalent roles with the Seahawks. Tight ends coach Nick Sheridan is expected to serve as offensive coordinator, which leaves DeBoer needing to fill one additional spot on his offensive staff. Kaplovic was set to join Dave Aranda's Baylor staff this fall after spending the past four seasons as the assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Michigan State. He has coached offensive lines for multiple universities across nearly a quarter century: Alabama State, Missouri State, Southern Miss, North Carolina and Colorado.
