  2. Not sure how healthy Barkley really is... he's missed quite a bit of time. Unless it's a short-term rental that's inexpensive, don't think it's the right move for Texans.
  3. Glad JBrooks is getting draft attention. But not a fan of Dallas drafting him in 1st 2 Rds and there are much better organizations JB could play for...
  4. Sometimes wonder if a Combine non-participant can kinda game the system. Have his agent release info only to teams the player is really interested in playing for. 5. Hope Sark really improves red zone scoring in 2024. In crunch time, it's often players not plays that make the difference. Saw this recent article about Bill Walsh... In tight games, Bill Walsh stressed relationships, not scheme The legendary 49ers head coach knew more Xs and Os than anyone, but he knew that his players' love for each other mattered more than anything. https://footballscoop.com/news/in-tight-games-bill-walsh-stressed-relationships-not-scheme
  6. Guess this is best thread for this... Commissioners working to move up December signing period December may not be any less busy, but it could be more organized. ZACH BARNETT FEB 22, 2024 The most popular day for high school recruits to sign their National Letters of Intent could move forward two weeks, as leaders from across college sports work to sort out college football's hectic December. The Collegiate Commissioners Association, which runs the NLI program, has informed The Athletic it is having "advanced discussions" about pushing the December Signing Day to the Wednesday before FBS conference title games, which this year falls on Dec. 4. The NCAA created the December signing period -- the third Wednesday of the month -- in 2017, and it instantly overshadowed the traditional February date. The advent of the Transfer Portal and liberalized transfer rules have since created a chaotic stretch of the calendar in which coaches are tasked with securing their high school class, sorting through the Portal, and preparing for postseason games all at once. Moving Signing Day forward would allow college football to, in effect, hold its draft before free agency instead of trying to do both at the same time. If the current calendar were to carry forward to this year, eight teams would have to lock down their signing classes on Wednesday and then go coach College Football Playoff first-round games on Friday and Saturday. The concept of earlier fall signing date has the support of the AFCA, in part because it would it would prevent high school players from losing their scholarships to portal recruits. “The biggest reason we’re doing this is to clear up the football recruiting calendar so the signing period and the transfer portal don’t overlap,” Big Sky commissioner Tom Wistrcill, who chairs the CCA's NLI committee, told The Athletic. “The feedback we’ve received from all coaches is that December is a mess. Especially with the expansion of the CFP coming next year, that just creates more chaos in December. This should help.” The CCA also discussed the possibility of adding a third signing date, which would actually be the first on the calendar: in June or August. June is now a crucial month in recruiting, and the thinking is that a signing date there would be supported by recruits and coaches who are looking to get the recruiting process over with before their senior seasons. The fear of a summer signing period has always been that recruits would then let up on the field in their senior year, if not take the whole year off altogether, with their college future now secured in writing. In a story published by Yahoo, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, citing Texas high school coaches, came out against a summer signing period. "No one has done any work on what that means for high school football," he said. "We have a responsibility to listen to the high school coaches. What we’ve heard out of the Texas group is that they do not at all support that. Everybody has to be attentive to that.” The SEC was in favor of an early December signing period, however, and is also pushing to make the entire month a dead period.
  7. Guess Urban will be visiting ole miss quite often... watch your ass ladies 😋 Former Ohio State assistant Corey Dennis takes different analyst job Ohio State's former QBs coach will now work off-field in the SEC, not the Big 12. ZACH BARNETT 20 HOURS AGO Former Ohio State quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis had previously joined Utah's staff as an analyst, but will now take the same role at Ole Miss, according to multiple reports. Dennis is now listed on Ole Miss's online staff page. The former Georgia Tech defensive back and wide receiver joined his father-in-law's Ohio State staff as an intern in 2015 and rose to become quarterbacks coach within six seasons. He was let go following the 2023 season. Dennis joins a Rebels staff with big expectations in 2024, perhaps the biggest in the program's modern history. With quarterback Jaxson Dart returning for his third year behind center and a No. 1 portal class, Lane Kiffin and company will be expected to build on last year's 11-2 record and No. 9 finish to compete for and reach the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ex-buckeyes-qb-coach-hired-by-ole-miss-rebels/ar-BB1iNaYo

  10. LSU set to approve raises, contracts for Brian Kelly's coaching staff A combination of an explosive offense and a combustible defense has put eight LSU assistants in roles they weren't coaching last season. ZACH BARNETT 21 MINUTES AGO The typical LSU game last season saw the Tigers and their opponent combine for 960 yards from scrimmage and 74 points. The combination of explosive offense and combustible defense saw Jayden Daniels win the Heisman, Mike Denbrock land the Notre Dame offensive coordinator job, and Matt House lose his job as LSU's defensive coordinator. The resulting shuffling brought in six new assistants to Brian Kelly's staff, with internal promotions for two more. Eight assistants either new to Baton Rouge or new to their means lots of new contracts for the LSU Board of Supervisors to approve, which is set to happen on Friday. On the offensive side of the ball, quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan was promoted to coordinator and wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Cortez Hankton to co-offensive coordinator, and they'll work under the same contracts. Via Wilson Alexander of The Advocate, Sloan and Hankton will work on identical 3-year deals that pays $950,000 in 2024, $1 million in '25, and $1.1 million in 2026. Hankton was previously set to earn $950,000 this year, while Sloan was in line to "only" make $650,000 as quarterbacks coach. Each of LSU's new hires are also set to have their contracts approved on Friday. -- DC Blake Baker: 3 years, $2.5 million per year -- DL coach Bo Davis: $1.25 million in 2024, $1.35 million in '25, $1.45 million in '26 -- DBs coach Corey Raymond: $200,000 in 2024 (offset by Florida), $755,000 in 2025 and '26 -- Edges coach Kevin Peoples: 3 years, $700,000 per year -- Safeties coach Jake Olsen: $350,000 in 2024, $400,000 in 2025 -- TEs coach Slade Nagle: $500,000 in 2024, $525,000 in 2025 -- Strength coach Jake Flint: 3 years, $600,000 per year -- Senior associate AD for football administration Austin Thomas: 3 years, $425,000 per year All told, LSU will pay Kelly's on-field assistants $9.27 million in 2024, a modest $50,000 increase from the high-flying (for better or worse) 2023 team.

  17. Hmm 🤔 Alabama replacing longtime football radio announcer Eli Gold AP Feb 21, 2024 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama is replacing longtime football radio announcer Eli Gold. The school announced Wednesday that Chris Stewart will replace Gold, 70, starting with the spring football game. Gold has been the voice of Alabama football for 35 years, calling seven national championship games, 11 Southeastern Conference championships and 35 bowl games. "Eli has been an invaluable member of our broadcast team," said Jim Carabin, vice president and general manager of the Crimson Tide Sports Network. "We are grateful for his years of service and wish him all the best in this next chapter. CTSN is fortunate to have someone as part of our existing broadcast team in Chris to step up and seamlessly transition into this role." Stewart has been with the network in a variety of positions since 1998. He had filled in for Gold during the 2022 season, when the longtime broadcaster was diagnosed with cancer. Gold resumed partial duties last season, calling home games and the Auburn game. Gold told AL.com that he does not plan to retire. "Well, the university has chosen not to bring me back," Gold said. "This is not, with a capital N-O-T, not at all health-related. I am very healthy. Everything is wonderful. I am healthy as a horse." ----------------------------------------------- Previous article about Gold's recovery... https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38347923/comeback-alabama-crimson-tide-college-football-announcer-eli-gold "There is a tradition in any program, and Eli's been a part of that tradition for a long, long, time," says Bama coach Nick Saban, who does his weekly radio show alongside Gold every autumn Thursday night. "When people listen, they expect to hear Eli Gold."
