  3. Between 1961 and 1966 – the golden age of slot cars – there were around 3,000 commercial slot tracks built in hobby shops and corner stores across the U.S., with an additional 200 in Europe. Kids could go to their local raceway and pay about $2.00 for an hour of racing on tracks that often filled the room with twists, turns, and as many as eight racing lanes. One company, American Model Car Raceways, even made a business traveling the country to build tracks. Their biggest, nicknamed “The Purple Mile,” was 220’ long.http://mentalfloss.com/article/27229/little-engines-could-brief-history-slot-cars

  5. Looks like this focuses on his early years with Taupin so I'm in.

  18. That’s a pretty nice frame. If the front ring is positioned correctly you should be able to run it as a single with the 9 spd. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Always enjoy seeing MCM public buildings. Visited Vietnam a while ago and loved Independence Palace. Built in the mid 60s. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  22. There was plenty of ugly stuff designed that is considered MCM, even by some of the famous designers. I do like stuff designed by iconic designers but some of my favorite pieces I've never been able to I.D. I tend to gravitate to the warm side of modern design like Danish Modern. I like the warm look of teak and brass and don't care plastic and chrome pieces that became prevalent in the 70s. I look for pieces that define a space without dominating it.
  23. That church is pretty cool. Wonder who designed it. I lived in Denton for 15 years before I became interested in architecture. After I moved I found out I had been living amongst a bunch of O'neil Ford structures. Even got married in one. Those definitely look like early Eames Shell chairs. The earliest examples have rope embedded around the edges to give them a radius. Later the incorporated the radius in the mold.
