So I just finished reading the book “Lords of Discipline” by Pat Conroy, which he wrote in the 70s about his time at the Citadel during the early years of Vietnam. Anyway it was eye opening to see where aggy stole a lot of their “traditions” from. The extreme importance of the ring, the swaying, the old corps/new corps thing, the homoeroticism, etc. it came out right when aggy had their first taste of relevancy in the 1980s (later we found out it was due to cheating) but it’d be interesting if anybody did a comparison on the timing.

Makes sense. The Citadel is a weeeeeeird fucking school, man.

niece is a junior, taking her to visit UT School of Fine Arts in the spring. she's at a top-tier competitive AISD school, she'll probably end up top 15-28% but has excelled at art, has the pedigree (state competitions, NAHS, etc) and has pushed herself with English and science AP courses.

i looked into it, and UTSFA has 'holistic' admissions, portfolio and essay are the key. she wants to give it a shot. my heart would swell.

of course, i'm also taking her to atm 😒 i'm paying but i'm trying to be objective. i suspect she's going to hate it anyway 😁

will also visit UTD and probably UH next fall. she actually has no idea yet what she wants to do. we'll see...

I would encourage her to apply to SMU. Badass fine arts program and they can be generous with scholarships.

Meadows basically is it's own school. Completely different vibe than the Greek daddy's money douchebags that dominate Cox.

Definitely not Budweiser. But I have to admit, I keep two full shelves in my backup fridge stocked with various craft and another whole shelf in my pantry filled with aging bottles. But I always have at least a 12 pack of Coors Banquet in the fridge drawer too. Love that stuff.

    Thank you

Love a good stout. Have you had Lakewood Temptress? It's on draft in a lot of bars in Dallas.

  5. Does anyone else have a soft spot for Budwesier? It's so goddamn consistent and 5% booze and cheap and drinkable. It's nothing worth writing home about but knowing you can be anywhere on the map and hammer back 7 of em easily is a nice feeling. It's like enjoying the occasional Johnny Walker or Grey Goose.

Texas Tech has had some solid uniforms, but Jesus Christ, when they drop the ball...they drop the fucking ball.

Whoever designed the 3rd one should be publically shot.

And, on the thread's record, Tech has some great unis.

Better? Not really. I don’t mind streaming games but that means I have to pull up the stream on my iPad and airplay to my Apple TV. It’s way simpler and better PQ for me to just login to league pass. I get not wanting to pay for league pass but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good.

I'm not going to tell you how to spend your money.

There is a better alternative for free. Do you need other issues?

But that's not really an issue with League Pass itself. Just like the Sunday Ticket. There's Reddit NFL streams for free but that doesn't mean Sunday Ticket has issues itself.

    Okay baby birds. Jesus.

For one, league pass blacks out games all the time. So, if you don't have cable, you can't watch the game.

Still, that doesn't even matter, because as I mentioned you can stream games for free in similar quality at a much better refresh rate.

Don’t worry, I’m just trying to become a focal point for disdain in the thread by giving what will be a universally reviled opinion.  Stop all this Texan on Texan hate and such.

I was with you until you said "seems to be the case about everywhere"

There are way more people in Texas, so of course there are more hot chicks.  I’m on an island and will get negged, I know, but I couldn’t roll my eyes harder at the pervasive “Texas women are hotter than ____” thing.

I’ve been to Texas many times.  For every smoke show southern belle, there’s a 5 chinned heart attack waiting to happen.  Pretty sure a bunch of America’s fattest cities are in Texas.

Lots of hot chicks, and lots that aren’t.  Seems to be the case about anywhere.

While I disagree with whatever point you're making keep in mind the person you're responding to is mentally deficient in several key areas linked to being a functioning member of society.
