  1. Holy shit. That was your gotcha? Brisket not calling anyone out, not referring to a single poster? Not even calling non-Surly individuals a political terrorist? That is some extreme weaksauce.
  2. I would argue that the moral core of this country equates the looting and destruction with systemic racism. Being disgusted with the murder of Floyd doesn't DO anything. And it HASN'T done anything. The effects of systemic racism is just that - systemic. It is not just Floyd, and the solution to systemic racism is not to say, "ok, we'll shoot fewer of you". In that sense I think the center of the country needs to be torn apart, at least the complacency of it.
  3. This is like saying "All I did was put my finger on a piece of metal and pulled on it, and all of a sudden I'm getting charged with shooting a guy!". I don't know the post you are referring to, but I don't think it is the "audacity to voice their opinions" that leads to being called a political terrorist.
  4. I don't think anyone (or at least the large majority of people) are throwing accusations because of actions of ancestors. It is more acknowledgement that our ancestors did some really ahitty things and we benefit from it. Where we go from there can encompass anything from wealth redistribution / reparations to tearing down institutional policies to simple conversations. Maybe I am placing too much emphasis on your discomfort with the word accusation but I am coming to feel that as we (whites) think about our history that we start imagining more anger and accusation that actually exists to individuals.
  5. Not trying to be the proverbial snowflake, but are above posts by Johnny cool? If so, are replies cool?
  6. Understood, and apologies for my contributions to the derailment. Very sincere appreciation to Pancho for sharing his feelings. I think the discussion of "seeing race" vs "not seeing race" was interesting, especially as I also have younger kids who don't currently see race as important (but I don't see that staying the same forever). But even so that should be secondary to just listening and hearing before reacting.
  7. I wasn't complaining about your post, but if you honestly think saying that Obama was a shitty president is not a provocative statement, especially given the recent warning against political statements in multiple threads in DT, than I think your reading of other individuals is a little more suspect than you imagine.
  8. No, you did differentiate in your response. Wulaw called Omaba a shitty president. You replied (in this thread) without comment. Other posters said he was not shitty, and that perhaps other presidents were shitty. That is when you stepped in with your usual butthurt and crying. So why is it you had no problem with the first, provocative statement? Crybaby indeed.
  9. This of course completely ignores the incident that sparked all of these protests involved 4 cops! The problem with police force is not individual bad actors. It is system violence and illegal behavior.
  10. Let's just say I don't think revenue centers are numbers 1-5 on the top 5 issues impacting the protests across the country. Even if you were to draw indirect effects of how revenue management influences department behavior, the presence or absence of a union is not what is driving police behavior.
  11. Hey all, I don't want to be political in here, but the problem is Antifa and Unions!
  12. Oh fuck off you disingenuous ass. You seemed to have no problem with Wulaw calling Obama an incredibly shitty president, making a post afterwords with no comment. But people respond and you get the fucking vapors. You fool nobody.
  13. If standing for that national anthem is not political, why is it done? Just because something is not controversial for any of the paying customers does not make it not political. For crying out loud, it is claiming allegiance to our country which is, by definition, a political entity. You can't possibly claim that it is not inherently political unless there is some other utility. Does it help the performance of the athletes? Does it give extra time to coaches to game plan? For the refs to huddle and make sure they are up on rules? I do agree that employer generally gets to decide on player displays of political activity, but I also think that employers generally don't require displays of political allegiance. If my employer required me to sing to the national anthem at the beginning of my work day, I damn sure would think of that as a political statement. Hell, if it's not political and paying customers agree with it, why is this not generally accepted practice in every industry?
  14. What percent of employees do you estimate are required to Stand at attention during the Star Spangled Banner? That is engaging in political activity by its very nature, otherwise not being in a part of it is also not political activity.
  15. I am sure your dog is the best dog in the world and acts "on-leash" without one. I am also sure that 80% of dog owners would say the same thing. If you were walking around with your dog without in a leash in an area that was explicitly marked that dogs should be leashed, you'd be a dick. In this situation I imagine he would approach you in the same way. Now if you were just walking in your neighborhood, I doubt he would react the same way. I doubt he woke up that day thinking "I am going to cause a shit-storm at the first person I see walking a dog without a leash".
  16. Disagree. If I go to work for Trump I know he is going to utterly screw me whenever is most advantageous for him. As a result, I am going to grift as fast and hard as I can. I think Parscale is a shitty person but he did what he wanted to do, which is maximize his financial gain.
  17. Oh she's definitely odd. She likes deer and wears antlers on some videos. In others she prances about. But she doesn't claim to be a deer, want to be a deer, or "identify" as a deer. That's not weird enough for some people to react to, however, so they have to create even more of a caricature. Just like @workswithseed did a couple of posts above where he claims "She said every gamer is a racist and that voice chat is ableist." She has not claimed every game is a racist. It's lazy and fitting that people who rail against Fake News simply make things up to fit their own narratives. She does claim that voice chat is ableist. I don't have a strong opinion on this as I don't play multiplayer games and don't watch streams on Twitch. I have not seen these videos myself, I have just read about this in a couple of different places because I find gaming culture interesting and read about it a bit.
  18. Amazingly enough, The Blaze did not fully portray all of the subtle nuance of this kerfuffle. For example, Steph does not identify as a deer. Nor is she a Twitch moderator. She is a member of a new Twitch panel called the Safety Advisory Council. She cannot ban, silence, or you know, moderate any Twitch user That being said, she certainly carried herself as if she has more authority than she actually does, so this would take reading beyond a headline (or perhaps not The Blaze) to understand. Of course then you wouldn't get your full truth unvarnished with pesky facts. And, even if the article you quoted was correct, you make the further leap to "in charge of Twitch censorship" which is even more ludicrous. Physician, heal thyself.
  19. If you look at @HenryJames's original post, he added “Obama has been niggardly in his praise for Trump.” as commentary. In actuality Rove didn't say that, which is what MrBig and Mo Horn were referring to.
  20. I am going to call BS on that, at least on a general rule. There are not enough resources paid to mine removal and it causes loss of use of land, loss of life and limb, and long-term environmental effects. They are expensive and dangerous to remove, so it is not usually done, but status quo is also not great. And maybe I'm wrong - maybe existing mines really are a deterrent from an invasion. How many lives were lost due to malnutrition, lack of money for school so having to work in dangerous conditions, etc. Again, not trying to force a policy anywhere but an attempt to be made to look at full picture. Going back to the DDT example, if a village does not want land mines removed, take that into account. Skip to the next village. For DDT - inform locals, make attempt to shield them / their food supply from effects, and I (and Carson) doesn't have objection.
  21. Do you have any evidence of this? I have never heard of any village / area opting to keep land mines, and didn't see anything searching on a few different engines. I am certainly not a mine expert (cue pawn shop meme) but this seems like an odd way to say "hey, mines are sometimes ok". Blaming this on "white women in America" likewise seems pretty misplaced. Even regarding DDT, Carson / Silent Spring did not call for banning of DDT, and she is not to blame for malaria. She advocated the use of pesticide where the people affected were informed / gave consent and impact to environment was considered.I get your political leanings and how that may lead to disdain for emotion over facts but that doesn't mean you need to have your facts correct.
  22. I thought you just meant "take a leak prosperity". Would fit Trump's ... interests.
  23. That's a cool data set, impressed they release that. You can definitely see which states are opening up. It's also cool how well that correlates to capacity. I think Texas limits to 25%, right? So it makes sense that Texas would be at 75% YoY, but also means that people aren't necessarily hesitant to go to restaurants - at this point limited by law, not by social behavior.
  24. Am I crazy or was @RomaVicta's name also Todd in those emails he was receiving?
  25. This was the post that I referenced: "I wish LeBron would stfu about education. Dude, like the graduates we were celebrating last night, you have a high school diploma. As a freak athletic star, how hard did you have to work to earn it? You're not dumb, but you're also not educated." This says that LeBron is not educated because he only has a high school diploma. I referenced other people who also don't have diplomas (or at least didn't when they became successful). You jumped in saying I was comparing accomplishments. I was not. If you follow the chain you would understand this. I understand Dell's accomplishments, same as the other tech leaders. The point is that education <> college degree. They are frequently linked but not equal.
