I was looking at an old thread, and I saw Rumblefishstix in there.  Did he pass away?  It seems like somebody mentioned that.

    Last post: January 2022

    Last visit: September 2024

He might have just lost interest in posting and lurked for a while before entirely moving on. But the way that man drank back in the Shaggy days, I wouldn't be surprised if it finally got him. No clue, though, as I don't recall ever running across his posts after the move.

That awesome one is from 2018 when the lakes filled in one weekend.

Ah. I was looking on my phone without glasses and missed the 2018 part by just zooming in on the red.

That rain out west is fucking bullseye. Not widespread enough but it’s pinpoint where we’d want it. Already 2 inches in the sweet spot. Too bad it isn’t a 7 county wide monster storm.

think it is bad in Texas, you should hear the comments in Idaho, Montana and Nevada. Basically, none of the nearby states like Californians driving up prices and changing the local dynamics.

Rich out-of-state doctors from Austin who buy little glass chalets in Montana on the side of a mountain overlooking a lake shouldn’t cast the first stone.

You should hear how New Mexicans and Coloradans bitch about Texans "driving up prices and changing local dynamics."

The problem is, being the kind of human being who is genuinely altruistic with a goal of improving humanity as a whole and being the kind of human who can and does play the sort of game necessary to accumulate unspeakable wealth are pretty close to mutually exclusive propositions.

Good and altruistic humans generally don't accumulate hundreds of billions.

Evil, narcissist, psychopathic, sociopathic shitheels do.

You and I would follow the same path.  But because we're that sort of person, we never did and never would accumulate that sort of wealth.  Shit, I've had several chances to behave merely unscrupulously and profit from it.....can't do it.  Ethics and a conscience are a bitch when it comes to wealth creation.  Fortunately for Elon, he is not burdened with those things.

One aspect of the past was the social pressure that the economic elite exerted on one another to engage in charitable works with their wealth, i.e., noblesse oblige. It seems that went away at some point, likely when marginal tax rates were really high after WW2, and the expectation didn't return during the Reagan Revolution of the 1980s.

Edit: Instead, we got Robin fucking Leach and "Greed is Good."

  6. Thanks. I appreciate the link and will check it out. But I'm now embarrassed to say I got his name confused with his fmr. CNN anchor brother. That said, I don't really follow what's going on in other states too well unless it makes headlines on the front page, especially when it's not discussed on Surly.

Look, people follow leaders and  messaging that is clear, tangible and immediate.

They don’t understand the magic words or care about checking the boxes The Groups want checked. They don’t follow ideological abstraction and they don’t want to support politicians who run away from the language of class.

Cuomo talks about real stuff that matters using short words and definitive, meaning statements people understand.

he’s too damaged and too much of a New Yorker  to win a national race, but his messaging is good.

Honest, totally serious question -- not a gotcha:

I don't have cable and haven't had it since 2009, so the only -- and I mean ONLY -- times I've ever actually heard him talk about stuff are from clips posted on Surly.

Could you provide a link to something as an example of what you're talking about? TIA

    And?

Well, you see, since he has disagreements with those weirdos on economic policy, he could never side with them on foundational democracy stuff like the Constitution, civil liberties, and human rights.

So, we find ourselves at an impasse as the Regime tests the boundaries of establishing a racist authoritarian police state where US residents lose due process rights as they’re spirited away to foreign prison camps, and protesting that earns you an ass-beating, a horse-trampling, a rubber bullet to the gut, or a tear gas cannister to the head.

Well there appear to be signs printed by a number of different organizations in many of your pictures (such as ANSWER Coalition ("Act Now to Stop War and End Racism"), etc.).  So yeah, I guess there are lots of people with diverse agendas who all are protesting what by all accounts is an unlawful and unconstitutional use of military force domestically.

Not sure what the point of your initial post was anymore.

It's a deflection away from the actual issue.

My friend, there is absolutely no "probably" about this.  The ICE raids in LA were intended to stir up a response to which he could counter respond.  The playbook was already drawn up.  I always kinda chuckled at @Brisketexan's Eeyore-esque "the end is nigh" posts, but I think we are inching ever closer to level of civil unrest we ma have never seen since our founding.

If you haven't already and have Disney+, watch Andor. It's an incredibly instructive non-CR series (though the parallels are unmistakable) about fascism and rebelling from it.

Apologies if you've already seen it, because I can't recall if you've posted in that thread.
