Hope that officer makes it home to his family after that vicious bump

It certainly looks like all the cops left to have dinner or something, allowing all those dangerous and disruptive students back on the South Lawn until at least sunset.

I mean, look at the chaotic and yet still polite applause!

If you want to see a movie that is similar to Shogun I would suggest Ran. It covers shogunate politics with epic battle scenes. Personally, I like Ran more than Shogun.

Akira Kurosawa who also made Seven Samurai and Yojimbo made this movie.

It is the WRONG move to memory hole all those posts. It's his favorite move, and it's fucking wrong.

He should have moved the posts to a new thread, rather than just lazily deleting everything. If that's his only solution then @immamac should fucking have a talk with him about destroying his user content and discussion

I absolutely agree with you about deleting content. All of it should've been moved here (edit) or spun off into a new thread.

2nd Edit: I see a new thread with all the original content was created while I was back over here.

    Pretty horseshit moderation for sure.

Chucklefucks yammering about cracking skulls are likely in an echo chamber of bullshit as far as information goes. Having their nose rubbed in their own heinous hot takes can’t hurt. And it wasn’t political.

In Blacklab's defense, he's been very consistent in his stance that the thread should be restricted specifically to on-the-ground Gaza war shit. And, to be honest, he's deleted a lot of shit I've reported in that thread where the Right-Wingers go off on protestors, who've been trying to put them in the worst light.

I'd bet he'd have allowed a new thread devoted to the UT protests as an ongoing, newsworthy event.

Who called the DPS?  That’s what I’m curious about.  I don’t imagine UTPD did but I could be wrong.

In one of the videos, a woman quizzed a DPS trooper, and he told her the request had come from UT.

Daughter - no pics - said the plan was to gather on the South Mall and march to the capitol and hold prolonged protest there.

Oh, so the protesters' plan wasn't to disrupt class or whatever bullshit excuse they used to start arresting students? The DPS riot police were there to keep them away from the capitol so as not to embarrass our weak-kneed, spineless governor.

Look, I can forgive them for not goose-stepping, as that would be a tad passé in this day and age, but that is terrible, lazy fucking form, and not the least bit intimidating.

Come on, you fascists, at least march in step!

Well, that's how he got to be one of Abbott's statewide co-chairs.  And his father and my mother were siblings.  So kinda cuts deep.

Yeah, I know how the good ol' boy network bullshit works, but that's THE FUCKING PROBLEM and why the assholes keep power in this gotdam state.

Yes, obviously Journalists in Gaza have come into harm's way but rarely at the direct order of the State.  It's usually incidental/corollary.  It was hyperbole for effect.

I mean, tackling and brutally arresting a cameraman who offices just blocks away from the DPS station is an awkward coincidence.  Even for pro-Abbott folks, that''s not gonna sit well because of the time-honored tradition of not fucking with media or medical care providers during heated situations.  Sooner or later, somebody is gonna FOIA their orders and rules of engagement and how UTPD was stepped over and this whole Abbott charade is going to come tumbling down, and right quick.

I just had a text exchange with a Regent and the chair of the Texas Higher Educatino Coordinating Board and they are both completely fucking baffled by this move by Abbott calling in riot DPS.

You might tell Fred to stop giving money to fucking Abbott while y'all are texting.

    UTPD Notice of Dispersal Order

THIS IS A DISPERSAL ORDER FOR OCCUPANTS OF THE SOUTH MALL:

I am Assistant Chief Ashley Griffin and I represent the University of Texas at Austin Police Department. Your conduct is in violation of Penal Code Sections 42.01 Disorderly Conduct, 42.02 Riot, 42.03 Obstructing a Highway or other passageway.

I command you in the name of the People of the State of Texas to disperse, and if you do not, you shall be arrested for Violation of Penal Code Section 42.01 Disorderly Conduct, 42.02 Riot, 42.03 Obstructing a Highway or other passageway.

The closest thing to rioting I saw in any of the videos was by the fucking cops.

  11. They're determined to turn UT into aggy. Cops are keeping the kids off the sacred grass of Six Pack.

Edit: The students are periodically and appropriately chanting, "Off our campus."

    • Hook 'Em 1
  12. One final clip from the long video demonstrates how peaceful the students were when the yellow-vested organizers cleared a path for the cops. Just as the quote above shows, it's the fascist assholes who want the appearance of chaos on our campus so that the suckers will continue to support them.

Accepting that these are the facts, those who agree with the actions of the government, listen up: you are no patriot, you are no Christian, you are a “wiping” skidmark in humanity’s boxers.

I've timed the video to a little more than a minute before any shit goes down. Protestors are standing around. Local Fox crew is talking about just needing to get an interview. Suddenly, you hear yelling, and they focus in on cops trying to take someone down in the crowd. Bike cops start coming in, followed by the riot cops, who do more shoving. Later, the horse cops. Even after all that, the protestors are peaceful as fuck. Most of the rest of the video is people standing around chanting as the police presence gets heavier. Yellow-vested protestors, who look like they're the organizers, even managed to clear Speedway for the horsey cops much later in the video.

There was no violence, nor threat of violence, except from the fucking cops.

  14. I'll also add that there were Jewish students wrapped in Israeli flags watching the protest, smiling and laughing among themselves, and not a soul was harassing them.

Today, though, the narrative changed. Public focus will not be on the message of the protest, but on the action by the government. I guess Kent State might well be a more appropriate historical analogy. Certainly, if the first hand reports I am privy to are correct, students were peacefully exercising their rights, and then the thugs thugged.

Yep. The STATE decided to make it about a display of force rather than the actual issue being protested. If you watch the video, the students were peacefully marching on a SIDEWALK ON CAMPUS (not blocking a highway or traffic or any other excuse apologists love to give), and the DPS just started barging through the march, shoving kids around and pushing them back. Then came the cops on horses and a fat DPS dude on a motorcycle saying that anyone who doesn't disperse will be arrested. Now, the cops have staked out their ground on the grassy area of Six Pack, periodically expanding their turf by pushing protesters farther and farther back.

  16. Those of you who support the DPS on campus today haven't watched the posted video (or any of the current live streams), or you have watched some of it and simply get off on watching armed assholes in uniform shoving kids around.

  17. Why wouldn't they also be charged? Is it because they might not have enough evidence or because they don't want to go through the hassle of Trump's successful delay, delay, delay strategy?

Can they come back and charge them again later?

George Santos ends comeback bid for Congress after raising no money

Former U.S. Rep. George Santos on Tuesday said he is dropping his longshot bid to return to Congress, months after he was expelled from the House while facing a slew of federal fraud charges.

Santos, who was running as an independent candidate for the 1st Congressional District in New York, said he was withdrawing from the race in a post on the social media platform X.

The announcement came after the disgraced former congressman’s campaign committee reported no fundraising or expenditures in March, raising speculation that his campaign had failed to get off the ground.

Santos last month launched a campaign to challenge Republican Rep. Nick LaLota in the GOP primary for the eastern Long Island congressional district, which is a different district than the one he previously represented. Weeks later, Santos said he was leaving the Republican Party and would instead run for the seat as an independent.

“Although Nick and I don’t have the same voting record and I remain critical of his abysmal record, I don’t want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the house to Dems,” Santos wrote on X, adding, “Staying in this race all but guarantees a victory for the Dems in the race.”

Santos was expelled from the House in December following a damaging ethics committee report that determined there was “overwhelming evidence” of lawbreaking and that he “cannot be trusted.” He was just the sixth member expelled by colleagues in the chamber’s history.

The former congressman has pleaded not guilty to federal charges that include deceiving Congress about his wealth, stealing from his campaign and obtaining unemployment benefits he didn’t deserve. He has a trial tentatively scheduled for later this year.

In his post on X, Santos did not rule out seeking office in the future.

“It’s only goodbye for now,” he wrote, “I’ll be back.”
