  1. There’s so many things wrong with this post. To start, Watts only started their first game at CB because of injuries, so your idea of him getting benched/moved after opening day is completely inaccurate.
  2. Thankfully not, but basically every race I realize I chose the UT Football of F1 and I wonder why I did this to myself. I’m thinking I must subconsciously be a masochist. But thoughts and prayers to anyone who is a fan of all three. Thy could make for a horrible fucking weekend this Fall.
  3. You think that’s tough? Try Ferrari.
  4. By all accounts, Laurent Rossi, the CEO of Alpine, is a total shithead and horrible to work for. He was the one who drove the Ocon contract because he wanted to have a French driver, especially since Renault is a state-owned company.
  5. Eh. I don’t find that at all meaningful. Both those guys are clueless, especially as to whether aggy will be dropping bags on a guy. Wells was saying he was confident on Hill the day before he committed to A&M, and Roach constantly falls for BS players and parents tell him.
  6. This is some impressive cognitive dissonance. Acting like you can’t figure out why Jimbo keeps Craig around everywhere he goes even though he’s a terrible coach.
  7. I think we get Gullette unless A&M makes a monster offer, and usually the TexAgs guys know when that’s happening. The fact that they’re not confident seems like a very good data point for us.
  8. This is a stupid take. The vast majority of the board is high on Gullette. The two services that have updated his ranking lately have him in the top 100 nationally and tOSU recruited him extremely hard. He’s a stud, and his ACL will be fine by the time he enrolls this winter. Bobby Burton said he was the anchor of his team’s 4x100 at 225 LBs and he long jumped 22 feet. He’s an elite athlete and has NFL potential at edge.
  9. Lmao wut. Teams didn’t have to go deep on us because they could run at will, but when they did they had a ton of success. At one point in the season, opposing O’s were something like 17/25 in completing deep balls against us. PK definitely played safeties deep and had guys over the top, but teams still completed deep balls on us because our DBs were horrible at playing the ball in the air. Huh? That’s such a weird way too lol at it. It’s an emotional hedge. If your team sucks, at least you make money. If they’re good, you won’t care about the money you lost.
  10. We added one ILB to our front 7 from last year. The same front 7 that got dominated in the majority of games last year. Ovie is still a starting edge. There’s no basis for concluding this defense should be strongest against the run.
  11. Pre-budget cap, the big teams spent about $500mm per year. There’s a lot of stuff outside the budget, including engines, so the big teams probably still spend north of $300mm. As for Drivers Danny Ric makes $20 or $25mm, can’t remember which. Both Carlos and Charles make 8 figures per year. Piastri could probably be signed for fairly cheap (7 figures) in 2023 since he’s a rookie who needs a seat.
  12. Guilbeau being out due to personal reasons and Collins and Sweat running 3rd team for what I can only assume are non-football reasons is a great start to the season for a defense that has to make big strides in order for our team to be more than decent. He was the only early enrollee. I'm sure we'll see plenty of other freshman on the 2nd team depth chart very soon.
  13. Right. That's what I'm saying. Alpine have literally no one to drive for them next year now, so Danny Ric can use that as leverage to get multiple years out of them if he hops over starting next year.
  14. Yeah, his best shot at a seat that's not a backmarker in 2024 is to use this situation to leverage Alpine into a multi-year deal. Otherwise, his only options for 2024 might be Haas or Williams, so it would make sense for him to settle with McLaren if he can switch to Alpine.
  15. Right. They'll absolutely be paying Danny something, but whatever Alpine pay Danny Ric can go towards paying Piastri so McLaren will still be paying about the same amount. I could also see Piastri taking a smaller salary next year just to get in the seat and then getting paid substantially more after 2023.
  16. I think a Piastri-Ricciardo switch makes the most sense for everyone involved, but I doubt McLaren will be willing to pay his full buyout, so Alpine would need to pay Danny Ric a market value contract to offset some of the McL buyout, and I'm not sure Alpine would be willing to make that work since I'm sure they're mad at McLaren for how all this has gone down.
  17. Nothing better than a bunch of old white dudes discussing their experiences with cities and the weather as a way to measure what’s most attractive to HS recruits.
  18. In both of your posts you’ve confused complexity on a white board with complexity of execution for the player. Orlando’s scheme wasn’t that complex for each individual player. He called a ton of run blitzes where the front 6 or 7 slanted and each had a gap. That’s easy for the player to know their assignment, even if it’s technically a complex looking blitz play. Whereas having DL 2 gap makes it more complex for the front 7. The DL has to wait and read the play and then the LB has to read off the DL. This leads to guys playing slow when they’re not used to it yet, which we saw a lot of last year. And to your point, the 2 gapping can keep guys clean if executed well, but it wasn’t, which then makes it harder on the LBs. I’m not sure what football you watched, but Overshown absolutely played better in Ash’s scheme and a lot of it was because it was more simple so Overshown could think/make reads less and play fast.
  19. Again, it’s obvious gap integrity matters, but the added complexity makes it much harder to execute. A huge part of it was obviously personnel, especially at edge, but the scheme caused problems too. Guys like Sweat struggled mightily with gap integrity in 2-gapping. That adds a level of complexity, which leads to guys thinking, playing slow and making the wrong reads. Plus our personnel on DL were more suited for attacking. On top of that, it’s much harder for a LB to have gap integrity in a 2 gap because they have to make reads on the fly. Overshown looked way better under Ash than he did last year, and that’s because Ash’s defense is easier and more straightforward for LBs, especially in the run game. The added complexity for DL and LBs in that scheme absolutely contributed for the struggles of our defense.
  20. The consistent rumor has been that he just doesn’t care enough about football to put in the work necessary to be great.
  21. This isn’t really correct. While gap integrity always matters, it gets much more simplified, and therefore much easier to execute, when you run a 4 man front and have most of your DL 1-gap, like Ash did the year prior. PK switching the DL to mostly 2-gapping and then having LBs make reads off of that was absolutely a contributing factor to our poor Run D. It’s much simpler to execute what Ash did in year one. I doubt PK will quit 2-gapping so hopefully our guys have improved at executing it in year 2.
  22. Not really. Gullette was 225 after his junior year. That guy was 215 coming out of high school. 10 pounds and a year younger is a big difference. Gullette has the frame to get to 245-250 which is plenty for a weak side edge. PK usually has the weak side edge in the 240-250 range and the strong side on the 255-265 range, which is pretty normal for most 4 man fronts.
  23. Just a friendly PSA, last offseason this guy used about 5,000 words to conclude BJ Foster was a great fit as a deep safety when PK calls Cover 1.
  24. I’m still not sure exactly how good Piastri is, but it will be exciting to see a rookie debut in a top 4 car (depending on how teams improve over the offseason). I’m not sure the last time a rookie debuted in a top 4 car. I guess you could say Norris but that was only with the Tracing Point penalties and max switched to RB part way through the year. Other than that, I can’t really think of anyone since Hamilton who actually debuted in a top 4 car on pace. Ocon should be a really good measuring stick, since he’s pretty dead on average on the F1 grid and very consistent. It took both Leclerc and Norris about half of their rookie season to really get up to speed, so I expect Ocon will beat him handily in the first half, but I could see Piastri looking on par or even slightly better than Ocon by the end of the year.
