  1. Money perhaps? Pakistan and India have a number of natural resources (coal, oil, minerals) and maybe the Trump regime figures they can work out a Ukraine style deal if Pakistan is subdued? That's my Dunning-Kruger University take on it. Ignores all the other reasons, but money and power are the two motivators that seem to drive the bus.
  2. I read the print edition at the library (PTL that its shelves are still full) but there is a recent New Yorker article by Andrew Marantz titled "Is It Happening Here?" in which he discusses some points adjacent to your discussion. I can provide a link and will post it below as I suspect the original is paywalled. I have found a different link that may work, but anyhow, the author references other research including the authors of How Democracies Die, but what I found interesting was the section where he wrote about the hollowing out of Central European University amidst Viktor Orban's solidification of power in Hungary and the inconvenient questions it raises for citizens (I"m grossly paraphrasing here and will spoiler a quote that is taken slightly out of context) Marantz saying that "in the real world the cataclysm often comes in on little cat feet, muffled and distant so that people continually adapt, explaining away the anomalies" seems to be what a large part of our populace is undergoing. IMO, it's a good article and while a slightly longer read, it's worth the time. Link: https://milled.com/the-new-yorker/is-it-happening-here-STvOfTBFmOuoAthB This is a podcast link below and not the article. I didn't listen to the podcast. https://www.newyorker.com/podcast/political-scene/how-bad-is-it-andrew-marantz-on-the-health-of-our-democracy
  3. I suppose it helps that the North Dakota population only numbers about fifty people, but joking aside, I believe there are several Mennonite communities there (as well as South Dakota) and have been there for many many years and the northwestern part of the state is also home to oil production which can bring traffic coming and going. The article didn't mention any of that, but measles being so contagious and the US having these pockets of low immunization rates likely means that the Lubbock health official who mentioned that it would take at least a year to bring case counts down was not wrong. If citizens don't vaccinate, then this will return to a seasonal virus that we, the people, will have to endure. Because we're stupid like that.
  4. w/o getting too CR with recent news, having international films like Flow really emphasizes the importance for art to have no geographical boundaries. I understand that there are economic considerations that come into play but the world is poorer in a different way when we cannot 'see' the brilliance of an artist's creation.
  5. Of course. 45 days is juuust long enough for her outrage GoFundMe to raise the $$ needed to fund her (checks notes) chi-chi Walmart lifestyle. After all, prices going up.
  6. The red light saber is ironic, but the carryover from the first regime and enhancing with the overinflated muscles is mind bottling. Anyone, and I mean anyone that lives in reality, that has ever watched this man knows that even in his youngest military school days did not, nor ever would, have a Terminator physique. Hell, even Arnold turned away from the Dark Side.
  7. I'm thinking that is likely and around the internet when one drives past the Hollywood and Christmas doll outrage, there must be something else that's going to drop (besides supply chains and the market) soon that's much worse perhaps?
  8. Dammit. They gonna be prying the international films, kdramas and cdramas I watch outta my cold dead hands. Quite a bit of original work has been quite a joy to watch.
  9. I didn't watch the entire interview, and perhaps it's unintentional but he's been 'looping' the schtick about girls and it rankles. Perhaps because the cult supports the misogyny and that part is personal for me, but listening to one of the most materialistic human beings on the planet tell parents to suck it up when we know for many it won't be about dolls or pencils it will be about food and shelter is just gah....I can't.
  10. I'd like to see a reporter bring up baseball bats and gloves for boys. While there are still company HQ in the US, some of the larger companies manufacture overseas. Marucci (save wooden bats) are produced in China as is Easton. Some companies like Wilson and Rawlings claim they manufacture all gloves in the US and some internet sources say that as well, a company rep for Rawlings admitted it's Taiwan. While having 37 bats (vs 37 dolls) is highly unlikely, a bat is much more expensive.... Or shoes. Children outgrow shoes at a great rate and wearing flip flops in winter may be a Texas thing, but that's frostbite in South Dakota.
  11. Bare shelves starter pack: St. Augustine Salad: + + Protein Based Meal: + or + = Beverage:
  12. Whatever happened to 'let the market decide' and 'consumer demand'? Perhaps the House dining establishment went with what was popular. Steak n Shake (a subsidiary of Biglari Holdings) is owned by Sardar Biglari of San Antonio who acquired the franchise when it was performing poorly and turned it around. The company did align itself with DJT in 2025, so Steak n Shake is owned by an Iranian immigrant family (I have no idea of the family's religion and it doesn't matter to me personally) and CHA Street Food is owned by a family with ties to Pakistan and formed their company based on their travels to procure tea and flavors from that country. Isn't immigrant enterprise a wonderful thing for this country, rep Collins?
  13. ISWYDT one GI Joe and two Barbies. So that's how it is now.
  14. Adults? I am embarassed and ashamed. @Biff Tannen read my mind.
  15. Dr. RFK Failson. He's surrounded by disinformation specialists who are using him to grift their "healthcare" remedies and achieve their dream to get rich like the quack Joseph Mercola did by touting "alternative" medicine. Mercola's net worth (according to a 2017 article) is over $100 million.
  16. I believe this week's New Yorker has you covered: Here's a link to the article which has a few more listed: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2025/05/05/military-decorations-pete-hegseth-style
  17. That birthday parade with 50 helicopters flying overhead and 1) A FAA that is sorely overtaxed. 2) A National Weather Service that is also sorely overtaxed. 3) The Secretary of Defense is sorely overtaxed out of his depth. 4) Elmo's Starlink installed at the WH. Commander Bonespurs and his birthday rally might upstage the capsizing of the MAGA fleet.
  18. The local health department did not state further information regarding the case--such as whether the strain was from the Texas outbreak or from international travel. They cited privacy issues. **Thanks @bolverk--I was typing while you responded.
  19. I'll see your ball in cup and raise you this one 👇 since the US Forest service is being dismantled, who needs trees? Made in America but be careful putting it in the stocking and don't use near open flames. Batteries not included.
  20. Tomorrow's update will likely add a new county as Denton has entered the chat. Link below. I guess it was a grand day out for the afflicted as they visited several restaurants, a Rangers game, and a Walmart among other locations. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/health/measles-denton-exposure-rangers-game-church-restaurants/3829983/
  21. I see your point but would like to offer up that what the regime is also doing is normalizing an expectation of hardship for the working and middle class because they should know their place. While that does fall under your "stupid/cruel reasons" this expectation may become the mantra and/or litmus test of what it means to be a 'patriot'. Whether the public will go along with that remains to be seen. Cannot dispute the remarks about materialism, but frankly this is the stale and moldy bread line future not the traditional orange in the stocking future.
  22. Bwahahaha. Lawrence O'Donnell of MSNBC tagging the president as Donny Two Dolls is the laugh I needed this morning.
  23. I'm struggling a bit here as I can't choose between Biden overhang being a haircut, as in, "yeah, I'd like a Biden overhang but trim the sides shorter" and a term that projects the current president's weak ego with respect to his own less than slender belly. Biden doesn't really have an overhang as he's pretty fit for an 80+ guy. But Trump has the 45 degree belt angle (as seen in his golfing attire) that indicates a significant overhang. Conclusion: there is no Biden overhang.
  24. If this regime and its aged sycophants are going to travel down that path (re: vaccines and research/treatments)), I hope they decline any and all cancer treatments and Henrietta Lacks haunts them from the grave.
  25. Pedestrians too. Your post is spot on with the dangers on the road for all types of cycles, but in addition, the EVs are quiet and with inattentive drivers at the helm, it makes a bad situation worse. I don't think I can wear any more lights and reflective gear than I do (and this is day or night) and yet the number of close calls when having the right of way and in a zebra crossing has gotten to the point where I'm considering a head cam. The common refrain for drivers is "I didn't see them, officer" when in reality it is "I wasn't looking, officer." Drivers are taught not to admit fault, but the dead tell no tales...
