  1. Considering I'm a lot younger than your squeeze, Sela Ward, no it is not. However, I'm sure she won't mind if you need your bottle of Nugenix before you ring her up.
  2. So, a page ago I'd mentioned losing weight due to a bug I'd picked up. Once recovered, I continued portion control with the healthy plate method (1/2 plate is veg, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carb), exercise, and I already didn't consume much sugar but made an effort to restrict foods like chips for snacking by not eating after supper etc. The good news was that in addition to keeping some weight off that I'd gained over the years, when I got some blood work done recently, my labs were quite good overall. Blood sugar and everything in the normal range so no meds whatsoever. Ten pounds lighter and back to give 'em hell I'd like to speak to the manager form. Plus, my cocktail habit with prepping supper seems to not be detrimental....yet. As far as the medications go, my neighbor was on Ozempic and the weight loss was real but it messed up some other stuff for her so she had to stop it on advice from her PCP. It was something to do with her kidneys/creatine levels but I admit I don't know anything beyond that.
  3. Establishment Clause. Why is it so hard? Why?
  4. The number of people who have degrees from a certain school (in your user name) who quote that guy as a legitimate source of "information" never ceases to astound me. I read his tweets and my first reaction is ALWAYS:
  5. I made chicken pot pie from the chicken we roasted a day ago and so that gave us time to make a few cocktails. We were trying out some liqueurs picked up from the local shop. No idea what the names of the cocktails were as I wasn't the 'barkeep.' But gin (my main spirit of choice) along with a cherry liqueur and another drink with peach liqueur. First was gin (Hayman's) with lemon and cherry liqueur (shaken with ice, strained). Second was gin, dry vermouth (Noilly Prat), and peach liqueur. The first cocktail had better flavor because we used Navy strength gin and it overpowered the peach in the second drink which had more gin and less liqueur. I made a wilted lettuce salad to go with the pot pie because the lettuce from the garden is about ready to bolt as the temps climb and boy do i like lettuce pan fried with a little bacon and vinegar. I may be a little wooooozy right now. Ah well, as T.S. Eliot said, "Gin and drugs, dear lady, gin and drugs."
  6. My spouse used to use Mitchum and now he uses Speedstick (sp?) but I splurged and got him a bottle of Chanel Allure cologne for his birthday and I don't care if he uses deodorant any more. That stuff is sex on skin right there. NTTAWT. At least for him anyway.
  7. Here's a little more about it: https://www.pressherald.com/2024/04/03/ban-on-paramilitary-activity-passes-by-one-vote-in-maine-house/ Here is a little more with what she said (from the link above) More from the article:
  8. It's working so far; HA ran 39.90 to place first (District 21-6A) in the 4X100m with Galena Park NS just behind at 39.98 (a US #3 for 2024). The 100m was HA's Watkins and Ross of GPNS going 1-2 at 10.22 and 10.45 respectively. Watkin's time was a new US #5 for the season. Area up next.
  9. It wasn't for me either, and the rich students skied and stuff over the breaks/holidays. School was free care for my folks and if we were out of school when I was small then my grandmother provided care but once I was old enough, then I was either taken to work with one of my parents and they found work for me to do (my older brother had a real job). One spring break towards the end of the "vacation" I wasn't feeling so hot and got in trouble for laying around so washed all the cars, swept off the driveway, and did all the outside work they usually had to spend a weekend day doing. At lunchtime was sitting with my dad who had stopped home to check on me and he remarked that I looked puny and I said, 'well, it hurts when I breathe.' Turns out I had pneumonia in both lungs and missed several days of school because I was in the hospital. But at least the cars were clean! Unless they had/have a fever, our kiddos were/are in school. To each their own.
  10. ^^^If you didn't jinx them lol; relays are tricky like that. Just ask Team USA....
  11. According to the government website, you need a GED. As far as I can tell, I don't think Rittenhouse ever obtained one. He dropped out of his local HS and then later dropped out of the online high school he was 'attending.' That would mean he didn't make the eligibility requirements in addition to the ASVAB most likely. I'm not certain that KR will ever have the epiphany of realizing any of these thoughts about his choices he's made, regret, etc because it really does take a little more than age to 'learn' the introspection that comes with looking at one's past.
  12. You? You are asking this question about why people act against what would seem to be their own self interest or that of their loved ones? You that have the inside scoop on the GOP loyalists of any gender throughout the state that consistently do likewise even in matters not related to women's health? I have the vapors I'm so shocked. Seriously, it's a good enough question and IMO there are a multitude of reasons, some of which have been discussed previously. Suffice it to say, if you look around many of those that are the most fervent may have a combination of fear driven anxiety and others a barely suppressed rage. The lack of empathy not being unique to one gender or another may be true, as is the way women tend to resolve differences, but to me there is also an element that @Brisketexan touched upon slightly--the vulnerability of a women's place in a patriarchal and just as important, a capitalist society wherein society and legislatures (and males!) are in the midst of 52-60 years of adjusting to the Civil Rights Act and Title IX being passed. I say adjusting because it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing has it? I could write a pretty long set of paragraphs that 'splain those thoughts about place and vulnerability and social change in more detail, but perhaps another time, as it's been a long enough day as it is.
  13. One tool to combat this is education, that is to be more specific: not the educational reinforcement of "girls can't do X (shall I list all the topics? Nah, don't think I will) but the education that promotes awareness of not only what girls can do but also of the social awareness of functional vs dysfunctional relationships, culture, and society. IOW, something one can (possibly) get in high school and/or higher education. So the banning of women & gender studies (among others) is about more than LGBQT persons and the 'morals police,' it also serves (as stated in the post above), to keep women in their place. You could substitute a number of other under-represented groups, but women (and transwomen) encompass all demographics of race, SES, sexuality, and age.
  14. Mean Girl Gate-Keeping. Some of them never outgrow it. Also, as a dad, this is something you can model for your daughter--how to stand up for herself because those mean girls start developing their skills in elementary school and it can leave a lot of scars.
  15. I hate to wish Midland ill, but if the wind was blowing eastward perhaps the resulting pollution lingered over Tim Dunn's 6000 sq ft place.

    LBGTQ

I am not a Mildred nor do I happen to know any personally but I see nothing wrong with it. It means gentle strength and that seems rather charming if you ask me (not that anyone did but this is Surly). I did know a Walter in school, the only one I've ever known until a SIL gave one of her sons the name as his 'middle' name. I find names kinda cool in general. They can be common or unique but each of us takes our name (or chooses it later) and makes it a part of us. We can be teased for it or admired or shortened or nicknamed (from our original name) but no matter what, it is us in all our messy complicated history of our time on this pale blue dot.
  17. Taking medical advice from a *checks notes* community college drop out is ill advised. Charlie Kirk can come visit my children who wouldn't exist were it not for me taking hormonal BC for a medical condition. Go ahead Charlie, they'd love to educate you because heaven knows that big head is full of crap. You want to see moody Mr. Kirk? Try actually speaking that schtick with women who lack access to the medical care that I received and you'll be lucky if you escape with just a fry pan up the side of your big old head.
  18. I'm looking at that fellow and without ever watching the video, my first thought is "Mister, I don't think ANYONE wants their lifestyle anywhere near you regardless.".
  19. Eight hours of benzene that was (if I read the paper correctly) 15 times the limit, and eight hours of carbon monoxide at 2500 lb/hour (limit=351.79/hr) among other things.
  20. Oh my sweet summer child.... canofworms.gif
  21. I'm def suspicious. My meatloaf looks like tenderloin compared to that abomination.
  22. It has one. It's where the cyber-alpha-males keep their boxes of condoms because they know they're going to get laid, driving a cyber truck and all standing by the side of the road waiting for the tow.
  23. Wait until next year when Easter falls on April 20th. Now THAT should really get people talking 'bout the devil.... Easter moves, March 31st does not. So uh, yeah.
