  1. I get what you're saying with respect to declarations, and your experiences (which mirror my own) etc. My commentary is more along the lines of what the future may bring if the agencies decide to surveil in a more sinister way. Fine line between national security and 'we just don't like your kind.'
  2. I'm going to tag onto this post as it is constructive and in a positive way. Another couple of things to remember (and this was also mentioned) is that your children are looking to you for social behavior and while you are aware of your flaws (which is good!) as they grow into adolescence (and with a 10 year old that is closer than you think) they are VERY aware of them. Daughters and sons want attention from their fathers and these years right now are IT. Meaning as they hit the teens and begin to bond with peer groups and want more privacy for teenage thoughts and dreams, it gets more difficult to express the emotions bubbling beneath the surface in positive ways. For both of you. While my spouse was an engaged father with our children when they were little--swapping off reading aloud, bath time, etc as they got older, we had a conversation about those nearing teen years and how more than ever, this was a good time for Dad to really step up and be there as a person of character for them. Forget the patriarchal society that we live in (if I hear alpha male one more time, my rolling eyes will fall out of my head) and just going with things like 'how does one resolves disputes, how does one learn about compromising, or forgiveness, or walking away from a bad situation or when to stand one's ground.' None of these things have to be about being male, per se, but how to be a human being. How it's okay to cry, to be weak, to ask for help, to confess to feeling overwhelmed or lost or angry. How some of these can be used against one (revealing too much information to untrustworthy acquaintances) and how to navigate that in relationships--personal, professional, and just out and about in the world. One of our children is pretty introverted. Like the OP, my spouse is quite drained after work but something that helped us was me commandeering the evening meal prep so that the two of them could take a walk. It wasn't a terribly long walk, but five to ten minutes into that walk and the words would just spill out of him. To this day, they still take a walk together whenever this (now adult) returns home and you wouldn't think such a small somewhat uncool thing would matter but it did and it does.
  3. Same, and we learned about the oil boom and people like the Phillips brothers but not about the allotment theft that @mchookem mentions.
  4. Anyone care to wonder about what's required for entry that will be normalized? Just like those countries that Dear Leader scorned.
  5. Have been rather busy these last two weeks, here's Friday's report from Texas: 597 cases, an increase of 36 from the 15th. 62 patients hospitalized since the onset of outbreak. Potter County is a new addition I believe
  6. I made a jello salad this week with frozen raspberries, raspberry gelatin and cool whip. It's pretty tasty. But olives? I have a much better use for those: Back to the topic....
  7. *Mumps has entered the chat... *Sterility in males caused by the mumps is actually rather rare but it does happen due to a variety of issues with the areas that mumps affects (not a doctor, just info gathered off of various sites.)
  8. It's been discussed already so won't go into that but finally drew up the courage to watch All Quiet On The Western Front. I'm not sure 'enjoy' is the correct word for the viewing experience unless I'm solely going off of the cinematography, acting, etc because it is, as many good war movies are, a gut wrenching experience but it needed to be seen.
  9. Dude put in his dues for quite a while before landing bigger roles, so he's grabbed the baton and is running. Film is on the list next month at Cannes and then opens stateside in July; I hope it is a good film as the topic is one that sets off some folks.
  10. Better start wearing the gold lapel pin or get reported for anti-Christian bias....
  11. I'll take your Commodus and raise you a Harkonnen:
  12. Once again, thank you for the update. Oklahoma is predictably stupid about not reporting counties; but the only way one could even try and suss out potential locations is by tracking exposure sites that the media shared. Recently, they've had some exposures in OKC, so speculation might be that those are Kansas cases traveling southward to the nearest metro area for care. (Although Stillwater would be more likely). I haven't followed theirs as closely. One of the news agencies mentioned northeastern Oklahoma and specifically mentioned Weatherford which is NOT northeastern Oklahoma (that would be like Tulsa or Bartlesville) and once again proves the issue with a)fact checking no longer being a thing and b) the giant corps like Fox buying stations coast to coast is shit for true and accurate news.
  13. Welp, I've tried to learn from mistakes, either my own or others. Learning nuance, i.e. when and how to apply what one has learned, comes afterward on that journey. Or one can plow blindly and recklessly ahead.
  14. I bet that was so heart pounding scary. Have had a couple of those calls and the subsequent adrenaline flood as the brain begins to process what you're hearing is unforgettable. Very happy your father is receiving care. Best wishes for his recovery.
  15. People that do that (bolded) are really stupid. The correct comment when passed/passing by a cyclist is "Refund! Refund!" IYKYK.
  16. There were two events, the first one ended up with the shooter being killed while the second one (in Florida) the suspect (currently in custody) didn't actually discharge a weapon. There were a number of stories ongoing while officials were trying to determine if this was a person (the event in Pennsylvania) acting alone (apparently so). He was 20 years old and even though I'm rather jaded at times, I have a difficult time believing the GOP catfished the dude into this. But just like other events in history, in the current state of the media it's not going to stick around unless there's something the pols can exploit or use as bait to rile up folks.
  17. Not a fan either. I guess I understand why some women do it, and if it was important to a friend of mine I figure it's not my business to say... but it's not my cup of tea. She figured out a good way to shift gears on her career path choices and it seems to be working for her.
  18. What I wouldn't give for some brave soul in the White House to stand by that paint-by-number and shout, A Sharpie, A Sharpie, my kingdom for a Sharpie! since Shakespeare truly understood power and those who seek it. However it would be wasted upon the dolts currently residing there.
  19. She is smoking hot (although I defer to the male eye's judgement) and that is excellent work on her nose I must say, although I think she overdoes the lip treatment a bit, but for someone just over 40 she does look good. Until you can book her for the 'water therapy counseling' session you desire, why don't you check her out in Playboy (8 times) or one of her movies, such as Vixens From Venus? She had quite a career before returning to school and getting a master's in Clinical Psychology. She has an interesting bio and here's a little more should anyone care read about it (or order a custom video!) https://www.ocweekly.com/b-movie-actress-custom-video-director-and-sex-therapist-erika-jordan-loves-love/
  20. Put those kids toddlers to work! It should be noted that Jessica's answer was ignored by Jeanine who kept on talking. Fox doing Fox things.
  21. Kirkland & Ellis was former DOJ Barr's firm correct? No surprise there.
  22. I used to consider most people as kind at heart and some part of me still wants to go with that, but lately it's been tough. Empathy as a weakness? (geez doesn't that soundbite tweet feel like it was ages ago?) It also sounds so straight out of Putin's mouth it makes me want to puke. People who didn't vote for this mess are going to be hurt by it in more ways than economically and won't have the $$ to climb out of it.
  23. I suspect he also has crunchy hair due to product and yeah, he doesn't want that to get messed up. He's very vain about stuff like that but in the wrong ways.
  24. So true and...
