  1. Reagan visited Purdue when I was a Sr. in HS, landing at the WL airport. The Secret Service was all over the crowd, etc. At one point, Reagan went "off script" and stepped up on the door sill of his bullet proof limo. EVERY secret service agent instantly became 1000% more attentive. He went off script. Not good. I am sure he was chastised for it. FIL's friend was a SS agent under LBJ. If the POTUS goes off script, the SS lets him know.
  2. I was wondering how long this would take.
  3. Holy crap. I thought it was that guy's real hair in the visor. Turns out you can buy a visor w/ replica Trump hair https://www.amazon.com/HAFKOIS-Spiked-Novelty-Baseball-Birthday/dp/B0CZ87KK3S/
  4. Shit, so we have to suffer through Mackovic again? Let’s just hope GGG’s successor has our 2026 WC team at 1995 levels and not 1997 levels. This feels more like 1997 Mackovic to me. Talent? Yes. Coaching? No. That said, there is an “inmates running the asylum feel” to GGG that jives with McWilliams.
  5. Was GGG our Charlie Strong or our Tom Herman?
  6. Absolutely. And grayer. Austin gets 227 days of sunlight per year. Eugene: 157.
  7. I'll continue the weather talk, but I really think that has little to do with it (no inside info). No surprise, Texas is warmer than Oregon in the summer. The mild summer temperatures in the Pac NW and Midwest almost make the winters worth it. Almost.
  8. Comparing any college player to any MLB Hall of Famer seems like a fool's errand, but it is Surly. Fwiw, Maddux, Warren Spahn, and Gaylord Perry all had lifetime BAA of around 0.240. They did not walk many, so their lifetime OP%-A are in the 0.280 area - which is true for many HOF pitchers. WHIP for the above: 1.143, 1.195, and 1.181, respectively. Let's not get Helobius'd by this one
  9. That article highlights some of the other deferred contracts that are still being paid out. Bobby Bonilla - Mets paying him $1.19mm per year through 2035 Bret Saberhagen - Mets paying him $250k per year through 2029 Ken Griffy, Jr. - Reds paying him $3.59mm per year through this year (he was the 4th highest paid red in 2023) Manny Ramirez - Red Sox paying him $2mm per year from 2011 through 2027 A couple other notes on Bonilla's deal. Mets owed him $5.9mm in 2000 and decided to use their high returns from their Madoff investment to fund the annuity. Oops. Apparently Bonilla spent money as fast as it came in. Bonilla's agent liked the deal because it *might* guarantee Bonilla would not be broke in 2002.
  10. Just throw it at the bull. Trust me.
  11. James's twitter probably auto-corrected "brazillion-dollar" to "billion-dollar." Likewise, Bauer's auto-correct converted "provably" to "probably."
  12. We started my BIL's bachelor party at Sullivan's in 2002. The adjacent table included Chris Simms, Kyle Shanahan, Mike Shanahan, and the rest of Simms/Shanahan football crew. No one bothered them at all, but they might be one tier of popularity below Quaid. And it was 2002.
  13. The coaches and GMs need to share the following aphorism: A rising tide will lift all boats. Clark is the primary catalyst to the rising tide (increased interest, attendance, and $$). Her peers need to recognize this and take the high road. Rather than say, "it's not just her; what about me?" Just say, "I am excited about the increased interest in the WNBA. This rookie class is definitely a part of it, and it will allow more people to see just how exciting our league is." Or something like that. People like to watch superstars who are interesting. Clark is certainly that. Over time, perhaps others in the league will become more interesting. And the tide will rise further.
  14. I have daughters (no pics) who are teachers. They'd be smiling ear to ear at $120k.
  15. That's fair. The "Time Watched Per User" stat is interesting - 1min, 12s. Some clearly were watching the game b/c of Reese. For reference, the cumulative watch time was 145 days 16h. Given the game lasted 1:58 (stats below), that's roughly the same as 1777 fans sitting through the entire thing. So, we've established the extrema: 1777 to 600k. I like this comment from the articlek, which would have surely been a barrier to entry: “Anybody who watched it should send three bucks to the person—I don’t even know who it is,” Reeve said. I think that what I would say is that the growth is happening so fast. It’s so accelerated. And I’ve been saying this in our own organization—that business as usual isn’t going to work anymore.
  16. That was one of the first "interviews" that showed up when I searched "Angel Reese." Each WNBA player has her own form of antics, taunting, etc. on the court. It is part of the game, as it is for the me. What separates Clark from Reese is the behavior in front of the camera of the court. Reese has a chip on her shoulder on and off the court. Clark appears far more down to earth and humble OFF the court than Reese. In the interview, Reese says, "It's because of me, too." Well, that is not supported by the data. The actu
  17. On your and other recommendations, I started it today. Wow! Just finished episode 1. Really liking it.
  18. He’s knows he’s near @Armybrat’s house. Nothing to do with bird flu.
  19. First time here and I may regret it . Did a search and could not find this linked, but the outage may have borked search. Hartman as Trump in 1990. The more things change the more they stay the same.
  20. Thanks for the head's up - fixed my post. My conclusions are still valid, lucky for me
  21. It is a defensible draw, given RPI: Aggy (2), LaLa (38), Texas (42), Grambling (236). Some random computer rankings: Sonny Moore: https://sonnymoorepowerratings.com/cbase.htm Aggy (5), LaLa (42), Texas (22), Grambling (242) Massey: https://masseyratings.com/cbase/ratings Aggy (3), LaLa (47), Texas (30), Grambling (712) Talisman Red: https://talismanred.com/ratings/baseball/ Aggy (2), LaLa (39), Texas (29), Grambling (290) Consensus computer rankings show Texas is the #2 team in the region, despite the relatively poor performance against Q4. Fixed - originally had LaTech by mistake - fortunately, the points still stand.
  22. Patterson was hired in Nov 2013, and his short list to replace Brown included Shaw, Franklin, and Strong. Having to suffer and wander in the wilderness through the Strong and Herman years is actually better than having hired Franklin.
  23. Fisher's teams had Steve McNair from 1995-2005. When McNair started, the team was 76-55 (58%). When McNair did not start: 20-25 (44%). He had Vince Young from 2006-2010. When Young started, the team record was 30-17 (64%). When Young did not start: 15-18 (45%). Not coincidentally, a 44%-45% win percentage yields.... 7-9. Fisher rose through the ranks because of his affiliation with and endorsement of Buddy Ryan. In his position coach and coordinator roles, his groups produced. Guys stick around for so long because of familiarity and hope. And management's fear that the next guy might be worse. That said, middling coaches could have gotten similar results with the personnel he had. Here's a random selection of some of the players he had on his winningest teams: 1999 (13-3) - McNair, Jevon Kearse (1st round pick),Matthews, Wycheck, George, Rolle, Bishop, Mason 2000 (13-3) - Everyone above, add Keith Bulluck (1st rd pick). 2002 (11-5) - Similar to 2000, add Kevin Carter in 2001, Albert Haynesworth (1st rd pick) 2003 (12-4) - similar to 2002. (note the DL, like in 2002, contained Kearse, Carter, and Haynesworth) 2007 (10-6) - Young, Vandenbosch, Haynesworth, Mawae, Bulluck, Mike Griffin (1st rd pick) 2008 (13-3) - Chris Johnson (1st rd pick), Young, Kerry Collins, Griffin, Mawae, Haynesworth, etc. 2008 was the year Young got hurt and Fisher decided to stick with Collins. They finished 13-3, which helped Fisher convince himself that he was the reason (not the players). Note that the above 15-18 "When Young did not start" includes the magical 12-3 from Kerry Collins. I typed all of that to say, "F Jeff Fisher."
