  1. I bought a Taylor from Wildwood several years ago. I wanted a certain Fall Limited Edition and they were the only place I could find that had one, and they had too. While on the phone the guy played and described both for me. Finally I told him to send me the one he'd buy. Good shop. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  2. Does that mean your 2 band mates worked things out, Chad, or did you just adapt? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  3. I'm a fan. Ive been saying for a while that the future of Rock and Roll is female. I'm all for it and I really like the energy these young ladies bring. The drummer is 10 years old, 7 when then formed. Incredible.
  4. That lines stuck with me since before I could play a guitar! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  5. I'm back in Texas, which means I'm back with this pair of Partscasters I documented building on the old site several years ago. Dougo's favorites! The Strat is OK, but that Telecaster is really something else. Nice feeling neck, bigsby, and the 51NoCaster pickups sound fantastic Im always tempted to take it home with me, but then I'm always so happy to have it when I'm here - at home I'd likely have a Gretsch in my hands instead. Ive probably written a 8 or 9 riffs/songs on it when here and I think i just came up with another this morning. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  6. ^ I'm all for this. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  7. I was just jamming with friends. My SG happened to be out because of this thread when a string on my big Gretsch broke. I played the SG for an hour or so standing & moving around and never felt an issue with neck dive; didnt even think about it. If anything, I was bothered that it doesn't sound like the Gretsch; but it was light and easy to play in my hands. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  8. I wouldn't shy away from the SG over it, they're great guitars and being super light has it's advantages, as does the neck joining where it does if you like to play way up there and go deedle-deedle. Mine's one of my favorite Gibsons.
  9. SGs have very light body's and the neck joins at the 21st fret. They can be neck heavy. I suggest a good padded strap to keep it in place.
  10. I guess I see that. People like to swap out pickups, and it definitely would make changing out pickups a breeze. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  11. I don't doubt thats was the thinking, but I don't see how its any more convenient for the user. I dont think most are regularly replacing pots, and for those of us who are its just as easy to desolder/resolder the pot as it is to remove and reinstall the PCB - then the PCB ready pot is more expensive and harder to find. I have 1 with a PCB control cavity. It doesn't bother me at all, but if I ever do replace a pot ill likely rewire it all with solder and wire. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  12. They did that a year or two before. Probably still do. A PCB everything plugs into in the control cavity. Few people would ever realize its there. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  13. I caught that tour at the Fillmore and will never forget the sound of that bass. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  15. Thats pretty spot on. I do recall playing one qt a shop in San Jose and almost walking out with it. I like those chunky necks and I think the Traditionals are great way to go if you want a "classic" style Les Paul without forking over custom shop cash. I think there's a Traditional 60's style one if you prefer a slimmer neck. However, beware of the "Traditional Pro". Those were a run manufactured specifically for Guitar Center and a step down. I bought one fairly cheap off Craigslist several years ago and it was a dog. I did a set up, cleaned it up, and did everything I know and couldn't make it into anything I ever wanted to play. I sold it on Reverb and made a few bucks for my effort anyway. There are way too many Les Paul variations. Its hard to keep up. I guess Fendernis getting just as bad with all the rebranding, and now Gretsch has a whole different "Player" series. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  16. JJ, basically in the late '50's Gibson was getting their ass kicked by Fender and Gretsch, so they tweaked the Les Paul every year in and effort to keep up, finally culminating and ditching the LP as we know it all together in favor of the SG design (solid guitar, like Fender w a glued neck), though it was then just called a Les Paul. The R series recreates all those variations. R7 is a 57 Reissue, R8 is 58RI, R0 = '60. By the mid 60s the magic of the 58 and 59s with the PAF caught on with the blues revival crowd and Gibson was rushing to keep up, renaming the SG instead of it being a Les Paul. 17. In line with this, the best Strat I ever played was an AVR from around '92. I don't know if thats considered Custom Shop. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  18. They say it's just which side of the border the person who built it lives on. I like to think USA gets the superior woods and more QC. Who knows? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  19. I live in San Francisco. Im not aware that he's a thing. What's the story? For the SoCal / NoCal discussion, I moved here from my native San Diego almost 8 years ago. I love San Diego and thought I'd never leave, but now I dont ever see myself going back. San Diego is beautiful and warm, but it lacks the variety of Bay Area. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  21. $7k for an '81 San Dimas Charvel with a poor looking refinish. Kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on one of these when they were all over ebay at around $2k 10 or 15 years ago. The only era since the 50's where innovation isn't/wasn't frowned on by the general guitar consciousness. 22. That's what my retired friend does to fund his GAS these days. He put this Collings at a local shop recently, and I see that it has sold when I went for this link. He's gonna buy a Martin 000-28, I just know it. He's been obsessed with mine for months now. https://shop.gryphonstrings.com/products/1998-steel-string-acoustic-collings-guitar-sj-full-body-sunburst-60106 Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  23. I'd say if you've had the guitar for 17 years and haven't been bothered by anything enough that you needed to. Hanger it, you just leave it around. I wouldn't mod a guitar just for the sake of modding. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  24. Damn. I just bought a motorcycle. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  25. Here's one where she's on drums. Probably her 10th or 12th time behind a kit. Listen to Dirty Squirt 2021-02-24.aac by Racer5 #np on #SoundCloud Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
