  1. I leave for Croatia a week from today. Ill be anxious until the wheels are off the ground.
  2. There's plenty of room and I think you'de be happy here. Its one of those things where you feel like you're getting away with something that nobody else has figured out.
  3. To be fair, his strategy so far seems to be order them and then return/flip them. So when he says he's gonna pick up the JM PRS, I assume that means he's gonna order one and try it out. It's kinda like a mail order shotgun approach I think.
  4. FWIW, I have 2 Martins and a Gibson Hummingbird. The 000-28 sits next to sofa and gets played daily. The D-18 sits next to my desk and gets played daily. The Hummingbird sits in its case and comes out from time to time, but always goes back cause it still doesn't like a Martin. Its a beautiful guitar and records well though.
  5. That would jive with my ancidotal evidence. I know of one bar that shut down for a few days recently because of an outbreak. Most bars here (SF) are now requiring evidence of vaccine to enter, including the one I live above. That's one of the ones where the unvaccinated friend who's sick and blamed me works. BTW, the owner of this bar is a close friend of mine, family really. She knew about all this before I did and was pissed to learn she had an unvaccinated person on staff putting her customers and 8yo daughter at risk. She told me that I carry zero blame. My stance since the vax has been widely available has been that ill still wear a mask when I go into places that people have to enter, even if they are in a group that can't vaccinate (there are a few such groups). Stores, barber shop, public transit, laundry, etc. But I'm not wearing one where it's a luxury. If your in a bar or restaurant and unvaccinated, that's on you. Still, it sucks when it happens to a close friend. I really feel bad if I had a part in her getting sick, even if she was the one being an idiot. On a side note, most people here are fine with being asked for proof of vaccination. There was worry that there would be blowback, but most people actually say "thank you" when asked for proof. One guy even said thank you and that he'd be happy to return after he gets his 2nd dose as he was denied entry.
  6. Its a normal pizza shop, actually a pretty good one. The family that runs it happen to be from Brazil. They do have a Brazilian food section on the menu that's hit or miss, but thebpizzas are solid.
  7. No, I had J&J. SF General is now offering Moderna or Pfizer boosters to anybody who had the J&J. I have to wait a month since I've been positive.
  8. I had a breakthrough infection i posted about somewhere above and it lasted about 2 weeks. Mostly just a cough, short breath, and requiring a lot of sleep. Glad I was vaccinated, I can't imagine getting hit with that at full force. I've now had 3 negative tests, so its behind me. The other day I learned a friend had canceled a vacation with no explanation why. I texted her and said I heard the news and hoped she's OK. Her response was that she and her boyfriend were sick with COVID and they blame me, im the only person they know who had it. I asked if they were vaccinated. She unloads that "everybody is attacking us for not being vaccinated and its really not fair!" Says they were being extra careful wearing masks etc. Her boyfriend was the kind who never wore his mask during the mandate, or it was under his nose like an idiot if he did. She's a bartender. I'm sorry they got sick, but I'm not sure how much guilt I should carry. Meanwhile I get into it with the guy who runs the pizza shop next door, who's a friend. Its a Brazilian family. He tells me he moved to this country for freedom and he doesn't need the government telling him what to do, etc. I tell him he has a responsibility to our neighbors who are buying prepared food from him, but he says its ok cause he always wears his mask when he's in the restaurant. Says they are thinking about moving to Florida where there's more freedom. During the election it was Texas they were thinking about moving to for the same reason. Obviously they were pro-Trump. This is in San Francisco where vaccination rates are above 70%. Now we're back to a fucking mask mandate.
  9. Just now realizing that the sheet of foil on the pick guard where the pots mount probably served as the the ground connection for all the pots, switch and jack. Likely it tore or somehow got a weak connection at some point after I replaced the pickups. Oh well, its all grounded solid with wire now. I wondered why it sounded great until it didn't.
  10. I usually just turn them wide open then measure resistance at the output jack with the switch in both positions. If the resistance is fairly close between the two I figure we're good to close it up. These were at around 4.8 if I recall. I don't usually check the individual pots and the sweep. I have while troubleshooting something, but I dont as a practice
  11. This one underwent a successful surgery this morning. When I wired it up last time, I just soldered the new wires where the old ones were. Compared it to diagram this morning and the was a whole grounding circuit not there. Added it in and it sounds great. Cant wait to jam the Filterton V!
  12. They are even harder to work on the electronics, which is why I haven't played it in a while. You have to pull the whole bridge off to remove the pickguard. Evidently I did a poor solder joint when I replaced the pickups. It sounded great for a while, then started to get noisy after a few months. I guess its time to fix it. I put TV Jones Filtertrons in this one so it would sound like a Gretsch.
  13. Here's one I haven't had out in a while, just to keep the thread moving.
  14. Most of mine sit in cases and rarely get played, but I figure that I'll just blow the money on something else if I sell them. Enough of them do get played that I wouldn't be saving that much space. I was thinking about hanging them all on the wall in the guest bedroom like art, then realized that everybody walking down the street would see them through the window. There's probably a window treatment that can fix that.

  16. I just read that Dusty Hill has passed away. What a loss. Great talent and performer. "He thinks he's real bad. He thinks he's badder than Shaft, Superfly, James Bond and Kung Fu All put together tonight."
  17. Here's my thought. If you're afraid of the city, don't come to the city. Don't visit here, don't move here, and don't worry about what happens here. Just stay wherever the fuck it is you are and worry about what's going on there. This narrative about the decline of "our cities" is tired. Oakland's sketchy. Water's wet. When in1st mixed to the Bay Area i remember a local in Jack London Square telling, "Oakland's not so bad, I only been mugged once!" Thats Oakland.
  18. Ya man. So what I'm hearing is, Custom Shop! Do it!
  19. Never seen this picture before. Phil Lynott with a Gretsch.
  20. I've spent hours listening to their cover of Love Hurts. Magic. $1,000 Wedding just melts me.
  21. Don't overthink it Buzz. Get whatever it they call the American Standard these days, they rebranded the lineup a few years ago. The only decision is color and maple vs rosewood fingerboard. All personal preference. That guitar will sound great and hold its value for years. For amps, there are so many on the market that its overwhelming. Don't try to get the one that covers everything - you'll spend all you tine chasing it around. Think of the basic sound your after and see what kind of amps are popular with the bands that make / made that sound. Then get a basic one along those lines in a size that will let you turn the volume knob up past 3 in the setting where you play. Nothing worse than neutering a good amp by having to set the volume at 1 or 2. Look onto and buy what you want, but don't make it hard. I've got guitars of all the kinds and amp of all typea and sizes. I find that no matter what I have plugged into what, I always sound like me and am usually able to dial in something close to whatever I'm after using the available tone / gain knobs.
  22. Congratulations! All this Les Paul talk has had me playing my R8 the last couple days. You will be very happy, especially having a Marshall to plug it into.
  23. That's awful. I briefly had a white SG that did the exact same thing. The paint didn't stick to the wood in places and it would just flake off like that.
  24. I'm always tired and I have a small cough for the 1st hour or so of most mornings, so its hard to say. Thinking back i think I noticed the cough being a little more pronounced over the weekend. Yesterday I still had it in the afternoon, but what concerned me was being short of breath after coming up the stairs while talking on the phone. After that I looked up the symptoms and saw that feeling tired, a cough, and shortness of breath were all listed. I had customer events scheduled today through Tuesday and an eventful weekend including crowds planned, so with 3 symptoms and a testing site right down the road from me I thought the responsible thing to do was to get a test to make sure. Im really glad I did.
