  1. At the protest today I made no effort to conceal my identity. My privilege is not just the color of my skin, but also the life I’ve led. If the fascists come for me, they’ll have to come for me where I live. That is the extent of my exposure, and I am ready to meet them at my door.
  2. As there is no thread for today’s mass in Chicago, where the Catholic pope broadcast his message for today, I will link that message. And for those who do not identify with Christianity, much less Catholicism, I want to include a purely secular iconic song that I think mirrors what the pope has to say. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/how-to-watch-pope-leo-xiv-deliver-a-special-message-during-mass-at-rate-field/3768270/ A late edit, to include something my wife reminded me, Pope Leo has called on Catholic clergy to step up and accompany immigrants to their court hearings. I am not Catholic, but I respect this pronouncement from the leader of the Catholic Church.
  3. We were among those hanging out under the trees. Tried to stay out of the way, but that never works. Folks kept finding us and so our protest turned into any other public event. A lot of yammering. Still, the best of reasons to show up in public. No mask. As I was being pulled over on the way home, I wondered for a moment if it was protest related. A black cop stepped up, and I relaxed. Expired sticker. Cop called it a fix it ticket.
  4. Good luck. Personally, I trust doctors more than politicians (and health insurance companies.) Here’s yet another reason why: https://www.npr.org/2025/06/13/nx-s1-5431935/rfk-hhs-covid-vaccine-schedule-faq
  5. I assume they are armed. We now live under the rule of gun.
  6. Nvm Pancho covered it.
  7. In my mind, all future protests against the regime are silent, except for the loudly broadcast loop of El Degüello.
  8. Gave CNN the chance to broadcast this chyron: “Federal Courts side with Trump on National Guard deployment.”
  9. During my time at UT I went downtown to ridicule a Nazi rally. Maybe four dozen people showed up to moon the Klan. So, this will be my second public protest.
  10. It bears repeating the old saw about the two types of people: those who believe it possible to have enough money to live in comfort and happiness, and those with money. Most importantly, we have learned that people have accumulated enough wealth to all but destroy our Constitution. They are demonstrably a threat to national security. Should the needle be threaded, confiscatory taxes on extreme wealth should be a priority.
  11. Yep. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
  12. turnip is a skilled politician. It is questionable as to whether he is actually leading. The argument that others, Thiel for example, are setting the agenda carries weight with me. I’ve seen what I thought were Waymos on fire. I’ve seen a teen throwing rocks at police vehicles as they sped by him. I’ve seen a squad car with smashed windows, though cops were using their batons to make the holes larger, apparently (to give police the benefit of the doubt.) But, like Stonekettle, I haven’t seen much to support the claim protestors are destroying shit. What have I missed? Edited to note that the Waymo destruction might well be ancillary to ICE, as I have read several posts from Los Angeleans making that claim.
  13. Another aspect I find interesting, even hopeful, about the World Cup is the extent to which soccer fans, from all over the world, can influence US politics. We’ve seen videos of a stadium of fans chanting “fuck ICE,” we have seen demonstrations in other nations, protests and parades, opposing our descent into fascism. Stands to reason that that energy will manifest in game broadcasts. At least, it will challenge the narrative that turnip is respected around the world.
  14. Yep, tautological arguments carry weight.
