2. Thx G650
For those watching on Peacock .. Is there a way to watch a stage from the start while it's still live?  I tuned in at the very end of stage 8 but was unable to start over or even rewind.

It will rewind from when you start watching. I turn it on when it starts then walk the dogs and stuff then rewind to where I left off.

3. He wasn't going to attack Wout and Vinego, and he had no idea about Vinego's form.   He let Vinego pull him a bit, saw weakness and went.  Well played

No he wasn’t. But if he attacked as soon as Wout dropped out he MIGHT have been able to put more time onJV. He went from +7 seconds to +13 to + 20 so JV didn’t have the legs today. But, who knows?
4. He's still young and resilient, but I really don't think Pogačar is going to be a serious contender this year.  I think that crash where he hurt his wrist derailed his training.  He was in good form before that, so who knows, but if I'm betting, but money is going on someone else, Vingegaard until proven otherwise.

Remains to be seen how much he was affected. I think he is a bit better overall than VG. I think he made a tactical mistake in stage 11 last year which may have cost him the race. He kept trying to counter all the Jumbo Visma attacks instead of focusing on PG. That plus losing 4 teammates by the end of the tour. Jumbo Visma wore him out. Not sure how the teams compare this year.
5. There's gotta be a testicles joke in here somewhere.

“It really took ball for him to be so brave”

6. We have normalized driving and driving “accident” culture so much that car vs ped/biker is pretty much considered normal and no big deal. Happens everyday. Fuck, we still call them “accidents” instead of what they are - collisions.
~21 people are killed daily in these collisions and I bet that very few people are ever arrested.

If I wanted to get away with murder I would run over my victim while they were walking or cycling. As long as you’re not drunk they will buy any excuse:
“Sun was in my eyes”
“Dog ran out in front of me”
“Thought a snake was in my AC vent”
“My right leg went to sleep”
etc…
7. This was something my wife and I noticed on a recent trip overseas, and I think it speaks to us on both a governmental level and a societal level: we traveled on some primary highways in Finland and Estonia.  Miles and miles of open road, rural areas, roadside towns, not too dissimilar from what you'd see here.  And not a scrap of trash.  Anywhere.  Either the locals don't toss it because they know it's a dick move and they look out for the common good, or the government polices the roadways and cleans stuff up pronto, or some combination of the two.
But I could make tracks between Helsinki and Turku and not see trash and debris everywhere.  It actually made an impression on us, the difference was so stark.  But, you know, America #1, and The Texas Miracle, and all those other lies we tell ourselves about how we're the bestest in the history of ever.

And to take this back to Abbott directly, here's this from the Blastfurnace thread in DT -- posted in a discussion of the massive and widespread storm-caused power outage in E. Texas (200,000 homes were without power, restoration is going to take a week):

That's price gouging!  It's illegal, by specific state statute!
I mean....it WOULD be....if Abbott ever got around to declaring a disaster, which he can do in about 5 minutes, with a form that's already mostly filled out and a stroke of the pen.  See, the statute only kicks in if there's an actual state or federal disaster declaration.  If not....well, what you see above is totally legal, totally cool.
Abbott has absolutely and completely abdicated his role as Governor of the State of Texas.  He's decided to instead dedicate 100% of his time and effort to being a dancing MAGA clown or somesuch, except no dancing.  He's hot garbage, and every second he is in power costs Texans stacks of money, not to mention suffering and death.  He is a net negative.  We would actually -- for real, at this point in time -- be better off with Dan Patrick as governor.  That's how fucking bad it is.

I believe he signed a disaster declaration on the 17th.
8. We were at the Field Museum on Saturday as part of our family vacation to Chicago. How anyone can see the fossil of Sue and think this was all just made up on a massive scale involving hundreds of museums all around the world is just astounding. But we are stupid, gullible creatures that are prone to believe ridiculous notions if the person telling them is convincing enough.

A trip to a Creationism Museum will explain it all.
9. In my experience the safety inspections have become increasingly perfunctory. Last few times I didn’t even get out of my vehicle. No real brake test, no horn or wiper check, no tire tread depth check etc.
